His family visited with him for awhile until they decided it was time to leave and they departed.
Everyone said their goodbyes and went home, all except for Blaine the devoted boyfriend who refused to leave Kurt’s bedside.
“Sweetie, you didn’t have to say. You should go home and rest.” Kurt suggested.
“I’m not leaving, you gave me a scare and I’m never leaving your side.” Blaine said bopping Kurt on the noise with his finger.
“Not that I don’t love the attention, but what am I going to do I’m practically tied to the bed.” Kurt laughed.
“I thought the restraints were for our ‘gay kinks’.” Blaine teased.
“Oh Finn. He means well.” Kurt laughed.
Blaine lay down next to Kurt in his hospital bed and cuddled the boy while they talked.
However, there conversation was interrupted when Holden entered the room.
“Um hi Kurt. I uh, I really need to talk to you.” Holden said softly not daring to look into Kurt’s eyes.
“Hey Holden, what’s up?” Kurt smiled.
“I’m the reason you’re in here!” Holden blurted out.
“What do you mean?” Blaine asked.
“I mean that I may have overheard you on the phone this morning and I went and talked to Karofsky about it. I didn’t say anything, but he got really mad and stormed off. I think he thought you told me. I’m so sorry Kurt. It’s all my fault.” Holden cried out all in one breath.
“Yes!” Blaine cheered and both boys just looked at him. “It’s not my fault!” He explained.
“Blaine!” Kurt scolded.
“I’m glad you’re happy but it’s all my fault.” Holden cried.
“It’s neither of your faults. It’s his. And it’s mine. It’s his fault for what he did. And my fault for trying to end it all. I don’t need either of you feeling guilty about it.” Kurt corrected them.
“If it makes you feel better, they arrested him.” Holden added.
“Thank god.” Kurt sighed.
It’d be a long road to recovery, but getting Karofsky out of the picture was the first step.
They wrapped up their conversation and Holden went back to the psychiatric unit and Kurt and Blaine went back to cuddling and trading lazy kisses.
“Guess what.” Blaine says nuzzling Kurt’s cheek.
“What?” Kurt smiles.
“I brought my iPod, and we’re going to listen to inspirational music!” Blaine cheered.
“You’re a dork.” Kurt teased kissing his boyfriend.
“You love me.” Blaine laughed.
“I do. So let me here your motivational songs.” Kurt laughed.
“Okay well…” Blaine said pressing play and singing along.
Click. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! Stand a little taller!” Blaine sang.
“Hahaha really?” Kurt laughed.
“Oh trust me I got plenty of songs.” Blaine smiled.
“Is that so?” Kurt smiled.
Click. “Work it make it do it makes us harder, better, faster, stronger. N- n- now th- that don’t kill me can only make me stronger.” Blaine sang laughing.
“What else you got?” Kurt laughed.
“Oh there’s plenty more.” Blaine smiled.
Click. “Cause if it wasn’t for all that you tried to do, I wouldn’t know, just how capable, I am to pull through. So I wanna say thank you. Cause it makes me that much stronger, makes me work a little bit harder, it makes me that much wiser. So thanks for making me a fighter. Made me learn a little bit faster, made my skin a little bit thicker, makes me that much smarter. So thanks for making me a fighter.” Blaine sang.
Click. “But I won’t back down, oh no, I won’t back down oh no.” Blaine sang.
The two went through an entire playlist of music that Blaine deemed inspirational in regards to Kurt’s situation for the majority of the night until they fell asleep in each others’ embrace.
The songs really spoke to Kurt.
Maybe he was strong enough.
Maybe he could get better.
Maybe he could do this.
He wanted to get better.
He wanted help, he wanted to get better, and he wanted to live a normal life.
There was nothing standing in his way this time, sure he had a slight setback that almost ended everything, but now he was determined.
He was determined and ready to turn his life around.
He could do this!
He’d get help, he’d get better, he’d beat this, and he and Blaine could live out the rest of their lives putting all of this behind them.
Blaine was such an amazing boyfriend to stick around and help Kurt through all this.
He truly was amazing.
Kurt wonder what he ever did to deserve someone as perfect as Blaine.
He truly was something.
Something he was looking forward to spending the rest of his life with.
Because Kurt Hummel wasn’t backing down, he was going to beat this, that way him and Blaine could live happily ever after.
Happily ever after?
There romance was very fairy tale like, but the lives they, well Kurt, lived was more so out of the horror section.
But he wasn’t going to dwell on that.
Positive thoughts, he told himself.
He could do this.
He could do this.
He was strong enough.
From here on out things were going to be better.
Hopefully.
