“Rachel! What am I going to where tonight?!?!?” Blaine yelled from inside his bedroom where he was currently panicking.
“Blaine it’s adorable that you’re trying to impress Kurt but you need to calm down.” Rachel laughed stepping into his room and frowning at the mess of clothes all over the place.
“Help me.” Blaine said sadly.
“Fine.” Rachel sighed. “We’re only going to grab coffee and then maybe talk a walk before he has to go to his second job, so I don’t think you need anything too extravagant.” Rachel teased.
“Help me decide what to wear.” Blaine said getting angry but more so just worried.
“God you’re worst than me when I go out on dates with Finn.” Rachel teased.
“Not helping.” Blaine complained. “I need to find an outfit soon so I can shower and make my hair less awful.” He sighed.
“Yeah those curls are pretty bad. Glad I didn’t inherit them. I have perfect hair with just the right amount of wave and excellent volume.” Rachel said checking herself out in the mirror.
“Volume ay? Yeah your hair is just as loud as you are.” Blaine teased.
“Either you just suck at insults or your mind is elsewhere. Probably on Kurt.” She laughed.
“Is not.” Blaine blushed his voice raising an octave as he spoke.
“Okay if you say so.” Rachel sang.
After finally getting ready Blaine rushed downstairs and grabbed Rachel’s keys not even noticing the bags in the living room or his mom in the kitchen.
“Where do you think you’re going?” She asked stepping out into view.
“Oh. Hi mom. How was your trip?” Blaine asked feigning interest.
“It was lovely thanks for asking. Now I will repeat myself, where do you think you’re going?” She asked.
“Coffee. With Rachel.” Blaine said scared still. His mom was nothing like his dad, but she was still scary.
“Well do you have to dress so…so gay? I’m look at you. You look ridiculous.” She said flicking his bowtie. “Fag.” She said under her breath.
Blaine knew not to take it to heart. But he couldn’t help but feel the sting in her words. He spent all afternoon trying to look good and she just shattered his confidence.
“I think you look great Blaine.” Rachel said coming down the stairs. “Hello mother. Blaine and I will be leaving now.” She said.
“Okay dear. Have a nice time.” Their mother said in a forced smile.
“That was awkward.” Rachel said as she stepped into the living room. “By the way I love your outfit. Totally not gay at all. Well maybe the bowtie is a little much.” She teased, but in a loving tone unlike their mother.
They were almost in the clear until their father walked through the door.
“Hi sweetheart.” He said kissing Rachel’s forehead. “Hey fag.” He said pushing Blaine out of the way.
“Daddy, don’t talk to him like that.” Rachel said. You know for someone who still calls their father daddy, it sounded pretty menacing.
“I’ll talk to him however I want to talk to him. And stay out of it Rachel. He wants to be a fag, I’m just calling him what he is.” He said glaring at Blaine.
No matter how many times someone had called Blaine that, it still stung every.single.time.
“Rachel you know you don’t have to take him out with you where ever you go. We wouldn’t want you having to be seen with him you know. You are a very respectable girl, but having him following you around could put out a bad image. It could make people think that you condone to his behavior.” He said as Rachel snorted.
“I do condone to ‘his behavior’ it’s not a choice dad. It’s who he is. And he should be free to be whoever he is. And I will always support him in everything he does. I’m not embarrassed to be seen with him. I am however embarrassed of how this so called family treats him.” Rachel said frowning.
“Don’t you dare talk to me like that young lady! And you won’t be supporting him if I have anything to say about it.” He said stepping past Rachel and getting in Blaine’s face.
“When are you going to give up this phase and start being normal? All you have to do is change and you can be a part of this family. But not until then. I will not have some disgusting homo as a son.” He said shoving Blaine against the wall and pinning him there.
“I can’t change who I am.” Blaine said scared to death.
That’s when the first punch came. A direct blow right to his jaw. “You disgusting little fag. Maybe if I beat you it’ll teach you to be more of a man.” He said punching him in the gut. When Blaine doubled over in pain he threw him to the floor and kicked him swiftly before walking away.
“Get out of my house fag. Rachel have fun tonight, will you be coming home for dinner or staying over a friend’s house? Be sure to call and let us know what you’re doing so we don’t worry. Love you sweetheart.” He said while exiting the room.
“BLAINE! Are you okay?!?” Rachel cried as she bent down to comfort the boy.
“I’m fine.” Blaine said coughing a little.
“Come on, I’ll call Kurt on the way. I’ll grab some cash and we can just order some take out and stay at his place. We’re sleeping there again.” Rachel said already moving while Blaine laid on the floor.
“Doesn’t he have work though?” Blaine asked not wanting to be a bother, but still really happy to be seeing Kurt.
“Yeah, we’re still staying there. I’m not bringing you home to be in this environment, it’s not safe. And I’m sure as hell not coming back tonight.” Rachel said helping Blaine up.
“I already have clothes there, and I’m sure he won’t mind if you borrow some of his.” Rachel said. “I’m sure you won’t mind wearing his clothes.” She teased making light of the situation.
That’s something her and Cooper were always able to do. And he was glad for that. He could use something to cheer him up. But right now what he really wanted to cheer him up was Kurt.
