The Anderson family was always a loving environment. Catherine and Richard Anderson were blessed with three beautiful children. The eldest, Cooper, and the twins Rachel and Blaine.
The family was exceedingly rich as a result of old money and the lucrative family business. This led to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson often being off on some business trip and leaving the kids at home.
Not that they minded, Cooper was much older than Blaine and Rachel, and they were all capable of taking care of themselves.
Being away on business had the family a little distant. But home was always a supportive and comfortable place to be.
All of the Anderson children were musically gifted and this lead to many impromptu family performances. Between Cooper and Rachel being borderline attention whores from an early age the house was hardly ever quiet.
Not that Catherine and Richard minded. They loved their kids. They had a perfect little family, and nothing could make them happier.
That was until that infamously dreaded summer day. The day that marked Anderson history and destroyed their happy family. The day their youngest son Blaine disgraced the Anderson family name with those two simple words.
“I’m gay.”
Never again was the family the same. Distant wasn’t a word to describe it, the family was divided.
His parents were stuck in their ways, slandering him. Telling him how he was an abomination damned to hell. Saying how disappointed they were in him. Making every day a living hell for the boy.
While Cooper and Rachel supported him and told him the loved him all the same.
As scary as it is to come out, to have all your fears realized and your life fall apart before you is ten times worse.
Blaine’s parents did not accept him. In fact they resented him. To them he was a disgrace and they would not stand to have him ruining the family name.
His dad spoke first. “Blaine. I’m very disappointed in you for this disgusting life style choice you have made. But ‘m not going to kick you out on the streets. I wouldn’t want our name to get a bad rep. You will live here, but you will not be a part of this family. Do you hear me? Never again will you be a part of this family. No one is to know of the disgrace you have become, you will not taint our family name. The second you turn eighteen in two years, and I will be counting the days, you will receive you trust fund as a form of being paid off, and you will change your name and never associate with the Anderson name again. Am I clear?” His father said in a whispered scream that looked pained yet menacing.
“You can’t do that.” Cooper chimed in sticking up for his baby brother.
“Oh yes we can. Blaine is no longer family. He is no son of mine.” His mother said coldly turning to walk away.
His father followed as well but not before pushing him down and spitting on him like he was trash.
That was the day the abuse started. That was the day Blaine’s world was flipped upside down.
He was only a junior in high school and now he was going to face the rest of his life without family. He felt abandoned.
Rachel knelt down beside her twin brother and wrapped her arms around him. “Blaine, I still love you. I always will. Don’t listen to them. You’re family to me.” Rachel said kissing away his tears.
“Rach is right; we’ll always love you Blaine. You’re still our brother and who you’re attracted doesn’t make you a different person. It makes you, you.” Cooper smiled hugging his brother.
Cooper and Rachel always stood by Blaine, protecting him in any way they could. But even they couldn’t stop the abuse hurled at him be his hateful father. It wasn’t too bad, a few shoves here, a push there, a hateful remark sprinkled over top. It was nothing he couldn’t handle, but each day he found himself breaking more and more.
Cooper tried to fill the role as fatherly figure to Blaine and Rachel tried to fill the void where his own mother had tore out his heart. But it was growing increasingly hard to stick up for him when their parents started resenting them for taking his side.
The family was divided and would never be the same.
It was funny how two people like Rachel and Cooper who are so in to themselves managed to look past that and take care of their broken brother.
Cooper became Blaine’s best friend and number one supporter. He always had Blaine’s back and he’d always be there for him.
Cooper would do brotherly thinks like give him ‘the talk’ even though he had to admit he felt a little out of place explaining gay sex to his baby brother. While Rachel and he bonded by talking about cute boys.
All and all they’d get through this. None of them knew what the future held, but they knew for certain they’d always be there for Blaine.
This is why Cooper felt awful the day he moved out of the house. He hadn’t considered it a home in a long time, but leaving everything behind, he felt bad. Yes going off to college was a dream of his, but he still felt bad leaving Blaine behind.
He would no longer be there to protect his baby brother and for that he felt awful.
Blaine promised him he’d be okay, but Cooper still felt uneasy about leaving.
As he should.
The next few weeks after Cooper’s departure were a mess.
Richard had taken to violence and drinking telling Blaine that he would never amount to anything. He’d never be good enough. He’d never be Cooper.
It was a week before school started and that’s when Blaine lost it.
“So Blaine are you excited to return to Dalton?” Rachel asked.
“Ha! Like I’m paying to send him there. He’s no longer my son, and that faggot doesn’t deserve Dalton. Dalton is for high class respectable citizens. Not for disappointments. He’ll be going to McKinley with you Rachel.” Their dad cut in.
“Public school? I’ll get beat up.” Blaine frowned.
“Good. Maybe it’ll teach you to be more of a man.” His dad said pushing Blaine a little bit.
“I’ll protect you Blainers, you don’t have to worry.” Rachel said enveloping her brother in a hug.
“Don’t waste your time on a fag like him.” His dad said harshly.
This led to Rachel and his dad arguing and Blaine retreating to his room crying.
He couldn’t take this.
What had life become?
He just wished he had somebody, anybody, who knew what it, was like and what he was going through. Someone who could take him for who his and love him anyway.
All he wanted was someone to love him.
