Dave shoved Kurt into the wall and walked away.
Kurt backed up against the wall and slid down and sat on the cold hospital floor. He brought he’s knees to his chest and he sat there and cried.
Kurt was absolutely shaken by the threat. Oh god, how could this be happening again? Like really again? You’ve got to be kidding.
Just when he got away…
Just when he was safe…
Just when he was getting better…
Just when he could see the light at the end of the tunnel…
All that didn’t matter, Karofsky was back.
Back here. Here of all places? What the Fuck?
How could this even happen?
He was no longer safe here, which was a joke, Karofsky was back and there was nothing he could do.
He wasn’t going to tell, not this time.
But how would he himself get better living in fear?
Guess he wouldn’t.
“Kurt? What are you doing on the floor silly? Come on let’s go back to our room. I invited Dave to come hang out! Isn’t that exciting? He’s so nice isn’t he?! I figured since you guys already knew each other and you were pals you wouldn’t mind if he hung out with us.” Holden smiled.
Kurt didn’t respond he just cried more.
“Kurt? Are you okay?” Holden asked now concerned.
“I-I’m f-fine.” Kurt stuttered badly. God her felt like Tina her freshman year.
“Okay.” Holden said confused. “Let’s go!” He added excitedly.
Kurt reluctantly followed Holden back to their room and sat down on his bed.
Kurt felt sick as he heard Holden ramble on about how “Dave’s so nice!” he couldn’t take it. He just wanted to leave, or better call Blaine.
Kurt decided he would fill Blaine in. Blaine deserved to know, and he could possibly help.
Kurt needed to talk to someone, he just felt so depressed and overwhelmed. He had a feeling he hadn’t had in weeks. He’s wrists were itching and he needed to cut. He was too worked up, he was jumpy and on edge and if he didn’t talk to someone or do something he was going to lose it.
He was brought out of his thoughts when said jock causing his inner distress walked into the room.
“Hi Holden.” Dave smiled as he entered the room. “Oh hello Kurt, I didn’t know you and Holden were roommates.” Dave acted interested.
“Hi Dave! Yeah Kurt’s my roommate.” Holden laughed.
“Oh, so are you guys like together or something?” Dave asked genuinely interested.
“Oh, no. We’re not together. Kurt’s with Blaine. Do you know Blaine?” Holden asked making small talk.
Dave glared daggers at Kurt, “So you’re still with that guy?” Dave asked angrily. “I’m surprised he didn’t leave you.” Dave said coldly.
“Nope Karofsky. Blaine loves me, he wouldn’t do that.” Kurt said angrily but still too afraid to raise his voice.
After the brief hostility Holden changed the subject and maintained awkward conversation. Only Holden and Dave talked, Kurt was completely silent. And while Dave feigned interest in what Holden was saying he was mainly just staring at Kurt with terrifying looks.
After Dave left the room for the evening Kurt knew he needed to call Blaine. He just couldn’t do it while Holden was in the room.
Hey waited for an opportunity, any opportunity. And finally Holden went into the bathroom to get ready for bed; Kurt assumed this was the best he’d get so he immediately dialed Blaine’s number.
Holden could hear Kurt crying softly so he cracked the bathroom door and peered through observing the boy. Attempting to listen in on the call. But after their greetings Kurt’s voice became a whisper and Holden could make out anything from where he was standing.
“Damn it! Blaine! Pick up the fucking phone!” Kurt cried.
“Hey love you too.” Holden could hear Blaine laughing on the other end.
“Blaine. Talk to me. I’m going to cut. Just talk to me. I don’t care what you say I just need to hear your voice.” Kurt cried.
“Okay for starters how about I say something along the lines of ‘please don’t cut.’ ‘What’s wrong?’ ‘Are you okay?’ ‘I love you Kurt please don’t do this.’” Blaine said sounding worried.
“Ugghh, I’m not okay. It’s him. He’s here, but the thing is no one knows why he’s here. They were just told he’s here from State Pen ‘cause of some plea of insanity shit. But he’s not really insane. I talked to him and he said it was all his and his dad’s ploy to get him out of jail. He told me that the others can’t know what he did to me because then he’d be shipped back to prison-where he belongs might I add- and he said if I told he’d kill me.” Cried was full on sobbing as he retold the events.
“Oh God, Kurt. You need to try to calm down. You’re just really worked up from seeing him and with everything that has happened what with your depression and PTSD you’re just worked up. I’m sure it was just an empty threat.” Blaine tried comforting his boyfriend.
“It wasn’t an empty threat the first time. What if he does something again? I’m so scared Blaine, I’m so scared. And I can’t fucking do anything because I’m scared of what might happens if I tell. I can’t tell Blaine. Oh god, what if he finds out I told you. Oh no, I’m so scared Blaine. I’m freaking out. Damn it I need a fucking knife. I’m so scared.” Kurt cried.
“Kurt, please calm down. Please don’t do anything. I’m really worried Kurt. Where are you? Please tell me you’re not alone. I love you. You don’t need to cut; you are stronger than that Kurt. You really are. Now I’m going to sing to you and afterwards if you still need to calm down I suggest maybe going for a run. But take Holden or someone with you. It’s not that I don’t trust you to be alone, it’s just a worry. What with how you’re feeling and all. And mostly just him being there. I just really worry about you. Okay? You need to calm down. Please Kurt. Please.” Blaine cried softly.
Being away from his boyfriend at a time when Kurt needed him most killed him. He could only pray that Kurt could find it in himself to not do anything.
How the hell did Karofsky get to him again?
Was he ever going to be safe?
Before Kurt even responded Blaine grabbed his guitar and began to sing.
Kurt laid down in his bed putting the phone on speaker and setting it on the nightstand so he could listen to the calming voice fill the room.
Holden came out of the bathroom, handed Kurt a tissue and sat down next to him. Ready to try his best at comforting him when he broke down.
Blaine’s voice filled the room as he sang.
“You feel like a candle in a hurricane. Just like a picture with a broken frame. Alone and helpless. Like you’ve lost your fight. But you’ll be alright, you’ll be alright.” Blaine sang beautifully meaning what he was saying in that Kurt would be alright.
Kurt sobbed uncontrollably as Holden tried his best at comforting and Blaine continued singing.
“Cause when push comes to shove, you taste what you’re made of. You might bend, till you break. Cause it’s all you can take. On your knees you look up. Decide you’ve had enough. You get mad you get strong. Wipe your hands shake it off. Then you stand, then you stand.”
“Life’s like a novel with the end ripped out. The edge of a canyon with only one way down. Take what you’re given before it’s gone. Start holding on, keep holding on.”
“Cause when push comes to shove, you taste what you’re made of. You might bend, till you break. Cause it’s all you can take. On your knees you look up. Decide you’ve had enough. You get mad you get strong. Wipe your hands shake it off. Then you stand, then you stand.”
“Every time you get up and get back in the race one more small piece of you starts to fall into place. Oh.”
“Cause when push comes to shove, you taste what you’re made of. You might bend, till you break. Cause it’s all you can take. On your knees you look up. Decide you’ve had enough. You get mad you get strong. Wipe your hands shake it off. Then you stand, then you stand.”
“You’ll get through this Kurt.” Blaine said reassuringly.
“T-thankss.” Kurt cried.
“I love you Kurt. More than anything. You are strong, you don’t need to cut. I’m so proud of your progress, you can’t let it bring you down. I’ll call Burt, we’ll talk to the hospital; you need to be safe.” Blaine said sadly.
“P-please don’t tell him. I can’t risk it. I’ll handle it. I’m not going to cut. I’ll be alright. Thank you love.” Kurt sighed.
“Are you sure I shouldn’t tell?” Blaine asked arguing with his gut instinct that he should have called Burt that morning when he found out.
“I can handle it. I’m fine.” Kurt sighed.
I’m fine.
I’m fine.
Was he really fine?
Would he ever really be fine?
