Chapter 4: Take me away
Kurt came home after spending more time with Blaine and Sam than he should have because Blaine had promised to be a little earlier than most of people and now Kurt had about 20 minutes to get ready before Blaine will come and pick him up.
He closed the front door and was about to greet his aunt loudly but didn't as he heard her talking on the phone in the kitchen. He pulled off his shoes by the entrance and lifted his brow at the flirty tone of her voice.
He crept to the kitchen and leaned against the door frame, his aunt saw him and flashed a beautiful smile, then walking back and forth around the kitchen.
‘'It was a really nice evening, yes,'' she said and Kurt swore her eyes were shining more than ever before, plus, she was nibbling on her lip which meant it was definitely an admirer. ‘'We definitely should...Alright. Goodbye.''
She ended the call and placed the phone on the counter, than leaning on it the next second with a slight blush on her cheeks. ‘'Why are you looking me like that?'' she referred to Kurt's slightly narrowed eyes.
Kurt laughed and shook his head. ‘'You've been teasing me about Blaine the whole time, now it's my turn. Who was that, if I may ask?''
Mildred blushed like a teenager in love, answering a few seconds after the question. ‘'I've been seeing this man for...a while. I mean, we know each other for months and I feel like I've had a crush on him since I first saw him but only a few weeks back we had our first date. And it's been amazing.''
Kurt giggled at her aunt squealing. It reminded him of the sleepovers he had with Rachel and Mercedes back at Lima. His aunt was a wonder woman. Seriously, she was an adult when she needed to be and a teen girl at times like this. Kurt loved her.
‘'I would love to hear this whole story but I have a party to prepare for,'' Kurt said on his way to the guest room, which was his for the summer.
.....
Kurt's hands trembled as he walked back and forth on the sidewalk in front of his aunt's house, waiting for Blaine who was his ride for tonight. He still had the feeling that he was just being used as the designated driver but he hadn't had the thought of drinking anyway. After throwing up on Miss Pillsbury's shoes, he swore he would never get drunk again. Drinking was fine but drunk, no.
He saw Blaine's car approaching and he stepped closer to the street, waiting for it to pull over. Blaine stopped and opened the door for him, he didn't say anything for a few seconds and Kurt raised an eyebrow at that.
‘'Hi, gorgeous,'' he finally said a little breathlessly. Blaine could admit that Kurt looked hot tonight. Very at that. Wearing dark grey skinny jeans, a white dress shirt, topped with a light grey cardigan that was buttoned up and a skinny black tie around his neck. How could this be that a person looked other-worldly hot without showing any skin? Blaine could only wonder.
‘'Hey, yourself,'' Kurt answered and got into the car, ignoring the nickname. Or trying at least. He swatted away Blaine's hand when he tried to take a cupcake from the tray Kurt had. ‘'I hope we're not late or anything.''
‘'We actually are,'' Blaine started driving and stated as if it was completely usual and nothing special.
Kurt gaped at him. ‘'How...You said we'd go early.''
‘'Meh, had second thoughts about going, truly,'' Kurt thought Blaine was avoiding eye contact but realized it was for the best since he was driving the car. ‘'Only reason I'm going is because you are. Otherwise-been there, done that.''
Kurt's slight anger flew away when he noticed Blaine's serious face. There was something bugging him, he could tell. They drove for ten minutes in silence, even the radio wasn't on, though it wasn't awkward at all.
After the silence seemed to stretch for too long, Kurt decided to try and talk to him. Maybe he would open up. So he asked silently, almost whispering, ‘'What's on your mind?''
‘'Homer Simpson running for president,'' Blaine smiled his charming smile and finally glanced at Kurt, after what felt like an eternity. Kurt couldn't help but grin at the dorky response. Though he was a little saddened by the fact that he didn't tell him the serious stuff.
‘'Why is that?'' Kurt asked and raised an eyebrow.
‘'Isn't it obvious, my new friend?'' Blaine laughed and then said in a growly, low voice. ‘'PINK GLAZED DONUTS EVERYWHERE!''
.....
Since they were about two hours too late to the party (Kurt had found out whilst driving that Blaine was purposely driving random patterns and roads just to kill time), they had to park a few blocks away because all the parking spaces were taken. As they walked, Kurt had the chance to observe all the houses. Each one fancier than the previous. Every time they came close to a house, Kurt had to wonder if it was Vanessa's.
‘'We're here,'' Blaine motioned to the house with his head. It was a huge sand colored house, possibly even bigger that Blaine's.
Kurt got nervous the closer to the entrance they got. And Blaine noticed. ‘'Hey, don't worry. I'll keep you company the whole time. Vanessa will be occupied with her gifts and fiends and stuff, she won't really need me. Trust me, I know. I've been to her parties.''
Kurt didn't say anything, he just nodded. Blaine opened the door for him and that revealed the loud music to hit them. This party definitely had started. Kurt immediately noticed several drunk people, everyone relaxed, dancing or chatting. He liked it. It was wild and loud but at least no one was being inappropriate like usually in parties, dancing half naked on the tabled and making out on any surface without any shame.
And he also noticed a stage for karaoke but no one seemed to really use it. He saw a gift table and placed the tray of cupcakes on it.
Do you recall, not long ago
We would walk on the sidewalk
Innocent, remember?
All we did was care for each other
But the night was warm
We were bold and young
All around the wind blows
We would only hold on to let go
Blow a kiss, fire a gun
We need someone to lean on
Blow a kiss, fire a gun
All we need is somebody to lean on
As the song went on, Blaine greeted more and more people. Kurt felt a little out of place and awkward but he knew that if Blaine didn't introduce him to anyone meant that it just wasn't worth it. Blaine was just next to Kurt, with his back turned to him talking to a guy.
Kurt saw Vanessa approaching them and he could see her walking wobbly, the girl a bit tipsy. She hugged Kurt and squealed. ‘'Hey, Kurt! I'm so glad you made it! Your boyfriend is here too.''
She wiggled her eyebrows. Blaine looked their way at the mention of a ‘boyfriend' and was about to ask Kurt something when he was embraced by the birthday girl as well. ‘'Hi, honey!'' She kissed his cheek.
She then turned when a girl's voice called for her and she pouted when she turned to her boyfriend again. ‘'I have to go.''
Blaine waved it off, because really, it was what he was used to and he wasn't complaining anyway. Both boys watched her walk slash skip off into the crowd.
‘'She's so hyper when she drinks,'' Kurt chuckled. He couldn't deny that the girl was attractive and very cute.
‘'She is,'' Blaine agreed.
Kurt observed the crowd and his eyes landed on Felix, who was talking to someone, a red solo cup in hand.
Kurt nodded to him and a greeting and smiled. Blaine followed where he was looking and stepped closer to Kurt.
Kurt looked at the gift table and his mouth fell open when he noticed the cupcakes were more than halfway gone. Not that it was a bag thing. And then, in addition to his open mouth, his eyes widened too.
‘'What kind of crazy person would give a snake as a birthday preset to a sixteen year old?'' Kurt asked shocked, pointing slightly at the snake tank, making Blaine chuckle.
‘'That would be me,'' they both turned at the voice and saw a grinning Nick standing there.
Kurt laughed and hugged him. ‘'You crazy boy. Looks like you don't have anywhere to put your money.''
‘'Oh nah, my uncles snake just had babies. I asked for one and kept it in my room secretly for about two weeks but my mom found it today,'' Nick told them, Blaine rolled his eyes and fist pumped his best friend. ‘'I originally planned on not taking a gift at all and just arriving when everyone would be drunk already and not notice the lack of presents I have.''
‘'Blaine, why does that sound familiar to me?'' Kurt asked with crossed arms.
‘'I have a gift,'' Nick and Kurt looked at him with a disapproving look. ‘'I swear I do. I left it in the back seat of my car.'' He explained, than placed a hand on Kurt's shoulder. ‘'Stay right here, I'll go get it.''
Nick and Kurt watched him hurry out the door and they shared a look. ‘'Do you think he's going to the nearby kiosk to buy something?''
‘'I wouldn't be surprised,'' Kurt shrugged. It didn't seem like a big deal to him. It looked like Vanessa already had everything she could want and honestly, she should be happy he even showed his face here, of course, she couldn't know about his doubts and hesitancy, but still. ‘'It would be quite amusing, actually.''
‘'It would,'' Nick agreed and then continued after a few seconds. ‘'Mind if I go look for Jeff? I haven't seen his this whole evening but he told me he'd be here. Probably hiding from Becky, now that I think about it.''
Kurt laughed and nodded, watching as Nick disappeared in the dancing crowd.
‘'Hey, why are you standing here so lonely?'' Kurt whipped his head around at a deep but loud enough to hear it over the loud music voice.
‘'Oh, I'm just waiting for a friend,'' Kurt waved it off.
‘'What a typical line to say. Not very clever of you,'' the boy teased.
Now that Kurt examined him more, he could tell he was an athlete. Slim, but muscular. Similar to Blaine. Just taller. He had sand brown hair that was pretty wavy and lightly styled, his face slim with a defined jawline, thin but dark eyebrows above bright blue eyes, much like Kurt's own.
Kurt blushed when he realized he was staring for longer than necessary. ‘'I'm not saying that just to blow you off. I'm really waiting for someone.''
The boy half smiled and nodded once. ‘'My name's Brandon.''
Kurt shook the hand that was presented. ‘'I'm Kurt.''
‘'Kurt. That's a nice name.''
Kurt didn't notice Blaine coming until he felt the other boy brush against his arm. Kurt could feel his body a little tense.
‘'Brandon.''
‘'Blaine.''
Kurt raised an eyebrow and looked between the two of them. They seemed to acknowledge the presence of the other politely, but weren't pleased by it.
‘'So Blaine's the friend you were waiting for, Kurt?'' Kurt nodded.
‘'Would you like a drink, Blaine? You haven't had one for a while. Seems like centuries ago, when we were the party animals eh?'' Brandon asked and Kurt was surprised that he was being so nice towards Blaine, even through the air was still tense. Kurt was very surprised by Blaine's sharp response.
‘'Just fuck off, would you?''
‘'Hey, hey. Blaine, calm down,'' Sam intervened. Kurt could tell he had had a few drinks by his flushing face but not too many. ‘'Brandon, just go, please.''
Brandon narrowed his eyes a bit at Blaine, and with one last glance and half smile at Kurt, he turned and went in another direction.
Kurt was very curious by the occurrence that just happened but noted to talk to Blaine some other time because he definitely had had a very tough day already.
All that Kurt, was ask a question with a half whisper. ‘'So you're not drinking tonight?''
Kurt thought Blaine might have not heard him but he was proven wrong when after a few seconds the boy turned to him and shook his head. He placed the said gift on the gift table and Kurt smiled to himself that it wasn't something just bought from a kiosk.
‘'Well, Kurt,'' Sam clasped his hands together. ‘' You're drinking tonight. At least a little. Come.''
Sam pulled Kurt by his hand to the bar, Blaine following right after them, he had promised to stay by his new friend's side this whole party.
Sam stood behind the bar and spoke as if he was a master mixologist. ‘'What would you like, client?''
Kurt giggled and looked at Blaine who was smiling. ‘'Something easy, not too strong, I guess.''
He didn't really want to drink. This was his first party in Florida so he had to test the waters sober. Besides, he had promised not to get wasted ever again.
Sam hummed. ‘'I think I know what you may like, ‘cause it's something I quite enjoy myself,'' he took out two shot glasses, a tall, light blue glass bottle and Sprite. ‘'Mint Vodka, sir.''
He already had Kurt at mint. Kurt hadn't had a taste of lots of alcohol in his life but he wouldn't miss this. He told himself, no more than three shots. Seemed reasonable. Kurt nodded.
Sam poured the drink in the small glasses and Kurt gasped quietly because the drink was light blue just like the bottle. Blaine laughed at Kurt's innocent curiosity and surprise in the strong beverage.
Sam handed him the glass and they took the shot together, Sam allowing Kurt to drink Sprite over the vodka first.
‘'Wow, that's actually great,'' Kurt smiled widely, like he had accomplished something. Blaine smirked and patted him on the back.
‘'Another?'' Sam asked and at Kurt's nod, he poured them another.
After taking the shot, a girl caught Sam's eye. He placed the glass down, not tearing his gaze away as if one second would make her disappear. He lifted his point finger to excuse himself.
Kurt watched Sam go and turned to Blaine, placing his hands on each of the curly haired boy's shoulders.
Blaine was slightly taken aback by such behavior, thinking to himself that Kurt was lightweight possibly. ‘'Sure, handsome.''
As Sam approached the girl, he realized that she was more and more beautiful the closer he got. She was tall but not taller than himself, dark skinned with light brown hair, styled in light locks. She was wearing a blue dress, showing her slim figure.
Sam cleared his throat to get the girl's attention since she was talking to some of her friends. She turned and the other girls went away to leave the both alone.
‘'May I help you?''
God, her voice is precious. Sam thought.
‘'Yes, you kind of can,'' Sam was so glad he took those two shots with Kurt. Otherwise he didn't think he would be so brave as right now. ‘'You could dance with me or let me offer you a drink.''
The girl looked as if she couldn't believe what Sam was saying. She crossed her arms and ran her tongue over her teeth, looking the blonde from head to toe.
‘'Look, pretty boy, a girl like me just doesn't casually dance with someone like you,'' she said confidently, taking one step forward. ‘'You don't really meet my tastes and frankly, you're not...how could I say this...well, from my ‘circle'. Sorry.''
She said and walked off. It felt like a punch in the stomach for Sam. More like many punches. Maybe this wasn't such a big deal but just any girl didn't get his attention. But something about her, her smile as she chatted with her friends, her confident posture and charming looks made Sam crazy. And this rejection didn't feel good at all.
He shot a glance to the bar and went its way.
What you want to do baby? Where you wanna go?
I'll take you to the moon, baby, I'll take you to the floor.
I'll trat like a real lady, No matter where you go.
Just give me some time, baby, ‘Cause you know,
Even if we're apart I know my heart is still there with you
5 more hours ‘till the night is ours and I'm in bed with you
This right here is my type of party
5 more hours, we're just getting started
This right here is my type of party
5 more hours, we're just getting started
Blaine and Kurt danced and laughed with each other, occasionally rubbing against each other and other dancers around them. ‘'I like this, Blaine.''
‘'Me too,'' Blaine chuckled a little at Kurt's playfulness. Electric jolts ran over him when he felt Kurt's hands wrap around his neck, though the blue eyed boy didn't act like it was anything out of the ordinary, not even looking at Blaine but dancing energetically with closed eyes.
Blaine tore his eyes away from Kurt's exposed neck, covered by small amount of sweat, only noticing Felix talk with some acquaintances, occasionally glancing at Kurt and shooting Blaine a disapproving look.
Blaine clenched his teeth and ignored the boy, bringing his attention back to Kurt, though pulling him a little closer subconsciously.
He closed his eyes, cursing himself for his act. What was he doing Why was he being so jealous
Yes, he admitted it, he was jealous. Not protective. Jealous. He didn't want Kurt going out with Felix. He knew very well that Felix was a very nice guy, though the thought of Kurt really being together with him made him sick.
‘'I take that you don't party often,'' Kurt guessed loudly, snapping Blaine out of his trance.
‘'I don't,'' Blaine confirmed. ‘'I go to parties here and there but I don't really party. I just...am there, you know?''
‘'Mhmm,'' Kurt hummed and looked Blaine in the eyes. His hands were still around Blaine's neck as they kept their eye contact and danced. Blaine just about melted at Kurt's warm smile and intoxicating eyes.
And of course, they had to be disturbed. They hadn't even had the chance to dance for more than one and a half songs. Blaine groaned.
‘'Kurt, do you like to sing?'' Becky questioned after pulling Kurt by his cardigan, away from Blaine.
‘'I do actually.''
‘'Would you sing with me?'' the girl pointed to the karaoke stage.
Kurt drew in a breath. Now, completely sober Kurt would be just mortified by such actions but, for some reason, he was feeling frisky and bold. So he agreed.
Blaine shook his head. This was a show he would gladly watch.
Becky turned down the music and heart cheers and groans of disapproval from the partying audience. ‘'Shut up people, otherwise you won't hear the greatest performance of your life, bithes.''
Kurt laughed at the girl's language. Something he would not get tired of. This was one of the biggest reasons he truly enjoyed her company.
Kurt stepped on the stage and his face burned red at the silence in the room and he giggled a little when he heard one person cheer a ‘woohoo'.
The timer for the song had gone off, the mode set to a duet.
10, 9, 8...
Becky's attention was drawn to something in the audience and she hopped off the stage.
Kurt's eyes widened.
...7, 6, 5, 4...
Kurt looked around desperately. This was a duet. He was sure he could just sing something on his own but it would be embarrassing to just quit the performance overall now.
Blaine noticed Kurt's worries and hopped on the stage, quickly grabbing the other microphone before the countdown had ended. Kurt looked at him and smiled with gratitude.
...3, 2, 1
Kurt closed his eyes as the song started and cursed Becky for picking a song like this. This would be...fun.
When marimba rhythms start to play
Dance with me, make me sway
Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore
Hold me close, sway me more
At first it started very awkward, because Blaine's face looked so confused at the chosen song but he shrugged and sang the first half before the verse.
Blaine was surprised in a good way when he heard Kurt's voice as he sang the second half. He imagined it being very good but he was great. He would have to ask Kurt to sing to him sometime.
Like a flower bending in the breeze
Bend with me, sway with ease
When we dance you have a way with me
Stay with me, sway with me
All in all, they both had fun on the stage. They started dancing, moving their hips and dancing something similar to cha-cha because it suited the melody.
Other dancers may be on the floor
Dear, but my eyes will see only you
Only you have that magic technique
When we sway I go weak
I can hear the sounds of violins
Long before it begins
Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now
The song was over and they started laughing. This officially was the most ridiculous song Kurt had sung in public.
Blaine hopped off the stage and gave five to some of the people who were paying attention, he didn't even know some of them. Then he heard Vanessa calling for him.
She crept through the crowd and took him by his wrist, bringing him to the other room. And he wasn't happy at what he saw there.
Nathaniel. Great.
‘'Hello, dearest Blaine,'' he greeted with a pleasant smile, though Blaine didn't return it. Way to ruin the mood. ‘'I brought a friend,'' he gestured to an elderly man next to him. ‘'We wondered if we could take a few pictures of you and the birthday girl.''
Blaine rolled his eyes because it wasn't a question. He shrugged.
Kurt noticed what was happening and stayed away. He got a bit nervous because he didn't know where anyone else was. Then he noticed Sam.
‘'Sam!'' he tried to get his attention and went through the crowd. He was standing at the bar. Well, not exactly standing but leaning on it because he was so drunk that he couldn't possibly stand on his own. ‘'Sam, why are you so drunk, oh my god!''
Sam just kept a pouty face and sipped straight from the bottle. ‘'Am I a bad person, Kurtsiman? Am I?''
Kurt shook his head and ran his hand over Sam's back to soothe him. ‘'Of course not. What happened''
‘'I'm not a slut, Kurt,'' he continued, not giving a direct answer to the boy's question. ‘'I work sometimes, I don't do drugs, I don't hurt people...Why didn't she give me a chance?''
‘'Who, Sam?''
Kurt followed Sam's pointing finger to a group of dancing girls. He didn't know which girl had caught Sam's attention but it looked like those girls who wouldn't pay you any attention if you don't drive a Porsche for the least.
‘'Ok, come here, big boy,'' Kurt wrapped one of Sam's arms around his shoulders to help him walk to the nearby couch, that thankfully wasn't occupied.
‘'What happened to farm boy?'' Becky asked as soon as they had sat on the couch.
Kurt ignored her question and instead gave her his own. ‘'You, my lady, betrayed me. Why did you leave me alone on that stage''
Becky rolled her eyes. ‘'Don't act crazy, Kurt. I just wanted to get Jeff's attention and for the first time I saw him in the crowd and couldn't miss him. After all, I bought this sexy dress for him.''
Kurt smiled that she indeed had bought the dress Kurt had picked for her. That light blue dress with silver dots. ‘'It looks beautiful on you, Becky.''
‘'Besides, I know you're not angry,'' she said and Kurt raised an eyebrow. ‘'I know you would've much rather sing with Blaine than me. So don't act like you regret something.''
Kurt smiled. Becky was right. He wasn't angry. Singing with Blaine had been very fun.
Becky went off again. Now Brandon approached. ‘'Someone had too much to drink.''
‘'He's suffering,'' Kurt defended Sam who was now half asleep, leaning on the couch on his side, his hands tucked under his head.
‘'Aren't we all?!'' Brendon teased.
‘'Look, I noticed Blaine doesn't like you so I'd rather keep away from you,'' Kurt said to the blonde.
He smirked. ‘'Don't want to upset your boyfriend?'' Brendon stopped teasing at Kurt's firing gaze. ‘'Ok, sorry. Blaine just doesn't know how to keep away work from his public life, I guess.'' Kurt wondered what the statement meant. ‘'Anyway, see you around, Kurt.''
Kurt nodded slightly.
Kurt threw his head back to let it rest on the couch as he watched Blaine take photos with Vanessa from afar. He wondered if Blaine was used to this kind of thing and did Nathaniel come to every event Blaine was at.
He sat there for quite a while and then saw Felix when he approached. ‘'Hi.''
‘'Hi,'' Kurt smiled back at him.
‘'I'm...leaving. Do, uh, does he need a ride home?'' he gestured to Sam with his chin. ‘'I know where he lives. I can drop him off.''
Kurt observed the offer but decided to wake up Sam before giving an answer. ‘'Sam, please wake up. Do you need a ride home?''
Sam sat up wobbly and blinked at Kurt with a sad expression. ‘'She rejected me, Kutsiman.''
Kurt's eyebrows shot up slightly and he looked back at Felix. ‘'Yup. He better get home.''
Felix nodded his agreement and they both helped Sam get up, each holding by one arm, helping him through the car to Felix's car.
Blaine noticed them leaving but couldn't really get out himself yet.
Kurt chuckled the whole way to the car because Sam wouldn't stop whining. They lay him on the back seat of the car, letting him continue his slumber.
‘'Thank you,'' Kurt didn't really know what he was thanking for but he felt like it was right.
‘'No problem.''
Kurt saw that Felix was avoiding his eyes. He could tell the boy was upset with him so he asked, ‘'Hey, what's wrong?''
Felix shrugged and then after a few seconds finally looked him in the eye. ‘'I just...was so excited when I found out you'd be coming...I hoped we would spend some time together. Seemed like you much rather were with Blaine.''
Kurt gulped with guilt. It was true. He noticed how hopeful Felix looked the whole night, glancing at him several times through the party. ‘'I'm sorry. I just don't go to...stuff like this often.''
Felix nodded and looked around, his hands in the back pockets of his jeans. He saw Blaine exit from the house and got in the driver's seat.
‘'Hey, ready to leave?'' Blaine asked Kurt, startling him a bit because he didn't know the boy was approaching. He looked confused by the offer to leave.
‘'I...guess so,'' Kurt swallowed when he felt a light hand on his hip. He looked at Felix's still open car door. ‘'Bye, Felix.''
‘'Bye,'' he answered coldly and Kurt frowned, seemingly he was upset again. They watched him drive away and walked the few blocks to Blaine's car.
‘'Why are we leaving so early?'' Kurt asked.
‘'Just wanted to get away...from them,'' Blaine answered but didn't look at him. Kurt knew what he was referring to.
Kurt decided to take a very short nap while they drove wherever they were driving to get at least some of the alcohol out of his system.
Blaine drove the distance to his house in complete silence. He could turn on the radio but he didn't. The comfortable silence let him think.
He glanced at Kurt, resting his head against the car's window, sleeping soundly. The calm, expressionless face made Blaine smile.
He had got out of Vanessa's house as soon as he could. Nathaniel was enraged at his sudden departure but Blaine was going to deal with the consequences some other day. When he saw Kurt leave with Felix and Sam, he wanted out immediately.
He didn't care anymore, he didn't care about Vanessa, Nathaniel, Ricardio or anything else, he didn't want Kurt with Felix. Or anyone at that matter. He could finally admit.
He was falling for Kurt.
Definitely. He wasn't even ashamed.
What he didn't like was the trouble he'd have to go through for him and Kurt to happen.
Of course, it would be selfless to let Kurt have easy happiness with Felix but he just couldn't. He wanted to be selfish. He wanted Kurt to himself.
‘'Kurt,'' Blaine waked Kurt up, caressing his arm from his shoulder down. ‘'Wake up, we're here!''
Kurt blinked his eyes open and looked around. ‘'We're at your house I thought we were going somewhere.''
‘'We are,'' Blaine confirmed. ‘'Just a slight change of plans.''
They got out of the car and went to Blaine's huge garage. Kurt never had been there before. It looked like Blaine's family owned a lot of cars ‘cause at least from the outside, the garage could contain a whole car shop.
And indeed. There were several different cars in different colors.
‘'These are all yours?'' Kurt questioned.
‘'Of course not,'' Blaine said like it was obvious. They went to a Volkswagen light blue van.
‘'Wow, this is so cool,'' Kurt giggled. ‘'I've seen these all over the internet but haven't actually seen one on the streets.''
They got in, Kurt a bit confused by the need to randomly change cars but he just went for it.
The drove along the beach, listening to music. It was very late so it was a black night.
‘'This is my brother's car,'' Blaine said out of the blue.
Kurt's eyebrows shot up. ‘'I didn't know you have a brother. Did we just steal his car?''
Blaine shrugged. ‘'What he doesn't know, won't do him any harm.''
You, you would always see the signs
The echoes in my head they rhyme
I felt they never went home at all
Tomorrow is another day, that we need
I don't know where I'll be searching for, the things I've seen
And I'm feeling all these things before I go though
All that I do, I do for you
Kurt chuckled. ‘'You know, your brother has good taste in music.''
Blaine nodded. ‘'This was his ‘Roadtrip CD'.''
Round about,a quater past
We rustle up all inside
Of everyone, and everything
That didn't owe us too well
And in our hearts
The matter is, they know the reason too well
I heard the rain, it never came
When we oh oh oh
Kurt squealed, making Blaine laugh as Blaine steered to the beach, driving through the sand, stopping a slight distance away from the water.
‘'Blaine, you can't park on the beach like this,'' though he was accusing, he couldn't contain his laughter and adrenaline.
Blaine waved it off. ‘'It's dark. And late. No one will see shit. If someone notices, we just put our tails between our legs.''
‘'You're crazy.''
‘'I'm not crazy. I'm adventurous.''
They got out and Kurt stretched his arms. ‘'You know what I love about this van,'' Blaine said. ‘'That it always has everything prepared from spontaneous drives like this.''
He pulled out a blanket from the backseat and threw it out. He held out a can for Kurt. ‘'Want an old beer?''
‘'No, thanks,'' Kurt laughed.
‘'Oh, he has some candy here,'' Blaine peeked out his head from the van. ‘'Sugar doesn't spoil, does it? Hmm, candy picnic it is.''
They placed the blanked in front of the van, facing the ocean and sat down. They had several packs of different kinds of candy between them as they looked at the waves, enjoying each other's company.
Kurt decided that this was the right moment to tell Blaine about what he saw when he arrived to the Anderson's this morning. Well, as right as a moment to deliver bad news could be.
‘'I saw your parents arguing this morning,'' Kurt said sadly, observing Blaine who didn't glance at him back.
He just stared at the water. ‘'I know. That's nothing new to me. That ass drinks no matter how much my mom hates it.''
‘'Doesn't it bother you?''
Blaine sighed. ‘'To be honest, Kurt...I know he doesn't make my mom happy. Am I a monster if I want them to divorce I just...want to see her happy. I love my mother so much...''
‘'I know, Blaine,'' Kurt scooted closer. ‘'And it doesn't make you a monster. Quite the opposite. You're a wonderful son if you want your family to be happy.''
Blaine now looked at him and smiled.
‘'I've had this feeling ever since my mother met him – that I should get her away from him,'' Blaine said, looking in the distance with a voice as almost scolding himself. ‘'Should've done it while I still could.''
After a long silence, Kurt requested. ‘'Tell me about your family.''
Blaine smiled and nodded. He took a gummy worm, threw it in his mouth and spoke while chewing. ‘'My brother Cooper is older than me. Seven years to be exact,'' Blaine laughed and almost choked with the candy when Kurt slapped him on the arm for chewing too loudly. ‘'He's trying to make a living in LA, trying to be an actor, but you know that. I will brag that he made one commercial, though. It was nice.''
Kurt listened with true interest, chewing a gummy worm himself.
‘'The only bad thing is that we don't see him too often. He hasn't visited in like...two months now. And you already know my mom''
Kurt smiled sadly. Looked like Pamela was the only real family Blaine got here.
He scooted closer, still a little bold from the alcohol (or so he thought) and placed his head on Blaine's shoulder. He didn't see it but Blaine smiled at the gesture.
‘'What about your dad?''
As soon as the question was out of his mouth he regretted it. He could feel Blaine's body tense and he closed his eyes, cursing himself. It should've been obvious that this would be a touchy subject for Blaine to just simply talk about with a mere stranger.
‘'I'm sorry for askin-‘'
‘'No, Kurt, it's fine,'' Blaine patted his knee. ‘'There's just...not much to tell, just like the first time you asked...because...honestly, I don't know. I just don't know. I don't...''
Kurt started rubbing his back. ‘'It's fine, Blaine. Let's just not talk about it.''
They watched the waves rustle in silence, Kurt with closed eyes as he snuggled into Blaine's shoulder. Blaine rested his head on Kurt's.
After a few minutes, Kurt whispered. ‘'I heard you play the piano the other day. It was beautiful,'' he complimented. ''I didn't recognize the song though.''
‘'It's my own piece,'' Blaine said barely audible. He didn't want to sound like he was bragging ‘cause he was not.
‘'Really That's amazing,'' Kurt said, though he was not that surprised. Something about Blaine just screamed ‘creativity' and ‘artist'. It was one of those things that really drew Kurt to Blaine.
‘'Hold on for a sec,'' Blaine said and got up, getting into the van and hopping back out with a guitar case. ‘'I told you, Cooper has everything you need for a road trip in there.''
He strummed some random little melodies until he played one Kurt could recognize.
He noticed Blaine was a Disney fan. Maybe he didn't admit it as loud as he would wish, but Kurt noticed his Mickey Mouse background photo on his phone, several souvenirs from many Disney characters all over his bedroom, also the picture that was a part of the collage on his wall with him, smiling widely in front of the castle in Disneyland.
And then he sung.
I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
And I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know that you'll do
You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream
Kurt hummed along, but silently. He listened with closed eyes. Blaine surprised him with his voice at the party but now that he was so close, not acting silly as on the stage, he sounded better than Kurt could imagine anyone could.
Blaine Anderson was his favorite singer now. Officially.
But if I know you, I know that you'll do
You'll love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream
Blaine strummed for a few more seconds and then finished. He looked at Kurt with a proud smile, their eyes meeting.
Suddenly, they just couldn't tear their gazes off each other.
Blaine leaned in, this time Kurt doing the same.
Their lips met in a very gentle, single kiss that lasted a few seconds. They parted and shared glances again. Kurt smiled and Blaine leaned in again, more passionately, bringing his arm to Kurt's face, cupping it.
Kurt moaned silently and without parting, Blaine placed the guitar away and moved his now free hand to the boy's hip.
Blaine lay down and Kurt straddled him, without parting their lips for a single second.
Kurt seemed shy at first but then he relaxed. They parted their lips and Kurt allowed Blaine's tongue explore his mouth, shivers ran all over him.
Kurt parted, laughed at Blaine's head going upwards, lips chasing after him.
Kurt just looked at him with the warmest smile Blaine's ever seen. Kurt ran his hands from Blaine's shoulders, down to where his ribcage ended.
Blaine's eyes were so beautiful in the moonlight, the usually warm hazel color now barely visible, his pupils blown.
They kissed again.
And some more.
