Kurt flopped backwards onto the fluffy and overly pink sheets of the fellow diva’s bed.
Rachel sighed, and despite the fact that Kurt was naturally a dramatic person, she truly believed his frustration once she saw his fingers raking into his normally untouchable and perfect hair.
Kurt definitely could not believe how much one person could affect his life in a matter of weeks. He knew Blaine pretty well, but it’s not like they had poured their hearts out to each other, just yet.
“I like him so much, Rachel. It’s ludicrously unjust- There should be a pining limitation on how much you can crush on somebody who’s obviously not crushing back.” He cringed at the whiny pitch to his voice because hearing himself this upset over something as lame as a high school crush only added to his irritation.
Rachel deeply sighed again, about to speak her opinion when Mercedes made her presence known,
“Kurt- You know I love you...But you absolutely need to get your self together. You know Blaine isn’t worth losing your mind over; your fashion sense over-“
Rachel quickly intercepted,
“I would have to agree with Mercedes, Kurt. I mean, we’ve all watched you pine from afar for so long… And it almost hurts to watch you hurt. It didn’t even take me that long to catch Finn’s attention, and it’s almost unacceptable that our fellow glee clubbers have now figured out that Finn isn’t exactly the most- Well, that he’s not the most charismatic dancer and it really puts a flak on my chances of being the next Barbara to hit the stage, but it really isn’t that big of a set back considering how far my talents have taken me already and-“
Both Mercedes and Kurt exchanged disbelieving looks before breaking Rachel out of her egotistical rant, “Rachel!” They exclaimed together,
“We were helping Kurt, remember?” Mercedes charged, rolling her eyes when Rachel locked her lips and threw away the key.
“I think what Rachel was trying to say was that- we really care about you, Kurt. And it’s just really hard to watch you get your hopes up… Waiting for somebody for so long that it’s the only thing that you have left.”
Kurt’s eyes began to heat up and he overlooked the pain in his chest and decided that now would be the perfect time to listen to his brain.
“That NSYNC Wannabe isn’t worth this whole meltdown. Because you deserve so much more than just that boy’s attention- Kurt, you’re in line for a bitch-ton of good karma after all that you’ve been through.” Mercedes had gained a sassy glint in her eye and Rachel nodded, agreeing with her immediately,
“Don’t let him ruin your fresh start, Kurt.” She added brightly, plopping onto her bed next to Kurt and pulling him up into a one-armed hug,
“You’re absolutely entitled to that, and a free pedicure!” Rachel smiled brightly and waved a vile of clear-coat in front of his nose. Kurt sniffled, wiping his eyes with a giggle and hugging her back,
“Awh, my boy! I need to get in on this!” Mercedes fell into both of them and they held him until he couldn’t breathe.
Kurt sighed in contentment, feeling warm all over, “I’ve missed you all so much, and I do believe that some of my distress did ware itself down a little after that hankering love spiel…”
He locked eyes with each of them appreciatively, but even though he had regained some of his self-esteem that was so easily drained away by unrequited love…
His heart still hurt and being wrapped up in Blaine’s arms was still an appealing thought, he always had to remind himself that that sort of chance was faint and was not going to arise anytime soon, though.
So, almost all- if any progress that the girls had made with him was slithering through his fingers like sand, because just thinking about him brought back all of his pain, misjudgment and stupidity. He was so nave...So clueless for ever believing Blaine wanted him and not that greasy blonde demon at the Gap.
As Blaine entered his toasty dorm room, he realized his room mate had finally decided it was time to light up their fireplace. He grinned, speaking of his roomie-
“Did you have a good swim, Michael Phelps?”
Blaine laughed as he toweled off his damp head of curls,
“Yeah, it was strange, nobody really minded the fact that I do my laps naked and covered in soap.”
“Guess that no-bullying policy has really nailed them down, huh?” Jeff retorted their sarcasm and their friendship making the entire room light and effortless, Blaine’s two favorite feelings.
When he had finally changed into some warm sweats, Blaine reluctantly settled down at their small coffee table and laid out his homework for the day.
He sort of hated the way that he felt after he had gotten a shower. I mean, Blaine knew that smelling good was always a plus, but he didn’t really take to cold and dry skin.
He yawned and his heart warmed when he recalled that Kurt was usually so, so warm and that his skin was always soft like the gentlest velvet.
You see, there was this dark, positively medieval time in Blaine’s life when he really wasn’t a big fan of hugs...
Or touching other people in general- But when he met Kurt that gigantic wall that he had built up crashed right back down. Now Blaine hugged and touched naturally and it was almost too much for his friends and family, who had only known him to give mental affection through words rather than physical affection. And to be honest, nobody was really complaining about all of these changes anyways. They were just happy that Blaine was opening up and trusting people again, even if it was happening in a very slow and careful process.
Now Blaine just enjoyed every one of his five senses, for the sake of knowing Kurt better. The sight, the smell, to taste, to hear the world around him… But the feel, the feel was always the strongest when he was around Kurt. Because Blaine sure did feel when Kurt was near to him, even if he did hide his stronger, more appealing affections for the boy with thoughts of their friendship. He still knew that Kurt was the closest he had ever been with anybody else in his life, though, and that seemed to make up for it.
“Blaine, your phone has been spouting whatever- feel good, bubblegum piece that that is for almost 5 minutes and considering it’s so ooey-gooey and chockablock with soft wind chimes, it’s not unlikely that it’s Kurt. Pick it up before my brain rots like a 32-year old cavity.”
Blaine snapped out of his long reverie and acknowledged that he had been staring at the same page of his chemistry notes for almost 20 minutes straight, realizing that it was his phone creating the loud back round noise.
Although Jeff didn’t turn away from the television screen that was currently lighting up one of his many video game worlds, Blaine assumed that he was damn serious about it being an annoying tune.
But he didn’t really care, because if it was Kurt calling then, well, it’s Kurt--that’s a lot more interesting to him than his friend’s annoyance. And because the mood called for sarcasm, Blaine picked up his phone and turned back to Jeff,
“Wow, you’re the most boring person ever- I definitely need to befriend somebody more dramatic… A real top cat, who uses words like- Chockablock and is jealous of my sensible ring tone, maybe?”
Jeff turned to glare for a moment but wasted his precious time because little Blainey was busy grinning widely at his phone… Only because he saw it was, infact, a picture of Kurt lighting up the small screen. He completely ignored Jeff to answer it,
“Hey, Kurt! What’s up?” Blaine’s voice was so cheerful and bright that Jeff sniggered at the large plasma screen before him… And Blaine had the nerve to put up a finger to shush him (Even if he obviously didn’t catch it) and began to walk out of the room with the phone pressed to his ear- He heard voices, but none of them were Kurt’s. And Blaine wasn’t sure why, but all too soon he was panicking.
“Kurt? - Are you there?”
