"What do you think of today? Vida?" Kurt asked.
"It was nice." Vida answered tiredly.
"Only nice? I thought you had enjoyed yourself more. Rachel, Finn, and don't forget, Carole were all there too." Kurt asked, full of concern. "I thought you said you missed them."
"Of course I miss them, especially mommy. She always sings to me when I feel bad, but the other mommy was nice too; she must be very lonely without papa by her side. She must have missed papa very much."
"Ah yes, Rachel. She still loves to sing, and always used days like today as an excuse to perform. And Carole does miss papa very much, as do I." Kurt answered with an loving tone.
"What kind of person was papa, daddy? He wasn't the one who won't let the sun and the moon meet, was he?"
"No, honey, he wasn't. He was the sole reason that they had met and continues to meet. He encouraged the moon to shine as brightly as he could."
The beeping coming from the machines surrounding Kurt was all Kurt could hear as he sat there, staring at the motionless body before him, completely separating himself from the rest of the world. He doesn't know what to do, his dad had always been his rock since his mother's death, and now he too could be gone. Burt had woken out of the coma few weeks prior and his condition had improved almost to recovery, but went back to this crucial state yesterday night for some unknown reason. Kurt was finally pulled back when another body appeared next to him, putting a warm, gentle hand on Kurt's shoulder as a sign of reassurane.
"It will all be okay, you'll see. Things will work itself out." But even the newcomer's voice sounded far away. "He will wake up soon, so stop worrying too much, Kurt. You're going to make yourself sick."
"What if he doesn't though. What if this is the last time I'll ever get to see him? Half alive, with tubes ticking onto every parts of his body?" Kurt asked in a shaky voice.
"He won't leave you, not yet. From what I've heard, your dad is not cruel enough to make you go through that."
"It's not like he has any choice. Look at him, he loods so dellicate, Blaine." Finally addressing the newcomer. "He is already sick. How much more do we all need to suffer before the Almighty God finally decides it's enough?"
"Shh...It's okay. I'm here. I'll always be here for you, Kurt." Blaine said in a reassuring tone. "Now, stop crying. It's not what your dad would have wanted."
Realizing what Blaine said was true, Kurt wiped away his tears but held onto Blaine even tighter. "Promise me. Promise you won't ever leave my side."
Nod.
"Say it. Please." Kurt pleaded desperately.
"I promise you, Kurt. I promise I will never leave you. You are stuck with me now."
Neither one of them notice the man lying there now has a smile on his face, nor did they pay any attention to anything else until a nurse come rushing in to check on the patient.
No. Kurt thought, disbelievingly. "DAD!"
"I wish I could have met him. He sounds like a nice person." Vida said thoughtfully.
"But you did." Kurt looked at his daughter with a blank face.
"What? I did? When?"
"You probably don't remember it. But there was that time when we went on a long camping trip last year for his birthday. He insisted that we all need to get out of the city life and live a little."
"That was papa?"
"Yes."
"Then I take it back. He is not nice at all. He refused to give me a piggy back ride!"
"I'm pretty sure you are thinking about the wrong person. You only asked Finn for piggy back rides. And plus he only said no because you already spent the entire trip practically attached to his back."
"Wait, which papa are you talking about? You are getting me all confused."
"You are getting me confused, honey."
"So It's not the tall one?"
"Vida. We just saw Finn today. How can you not remember that?"
"And it wasn't the one with the mohawk, either?"
"No. papa is the bald one." Kurt answered tiredly.
"Oh!" Vida was hit with the sudden realization. "The bald papa was the papa that we visited today!"
Sighing, Kurt got up and gave Vida a kiss, but the tiny smile on his face suggested that he find this entire conversation amusing.
"Yes, he bald papa is my dad, Burt. Yes, you had met him in person before. And yes, I do still miss him, but he was ready to leave by the time, so it was all expected." I'm just glad that the two of you got to meet each other before he left.
"Goodnight, honey. And sleep tight."
"Don't let the bedbugs bite." Vida answered. "I know daddy. 'ite."
