Obviously Kurt’s was to go to NYADA, become a big star on Broadway, marry, start a family. Blaine smiled whilst Kurt talked, like something inside of him was lighting up every time Kurt spoke. Kurt liked that. Blaine was fairly silent on his ambitions however. He loved to act and sing but had got in his head that he was never going to make it. Kurt frowned at this. Blaine had an amazing voice and he was the most beautiful person he had ever seen. He could make it on Broadway if he set his mind to it. But it was almost as if Blaine would be letting someone down if he pursued his dreams. Kurt didn’t want to pressure him into telling him anything he didn’t want to however, so stayed silent.
“Have you ever had boyfriend” Blaine asked one day, biting his lips. Kurt chuckled at him. “Would you be jealous if I had?” Blaine quickly shook his head. “No, no I was just…erm wondering…if erm I was your first really”. Kurt smiled Blaine’s favourite smile and softly touched his hand which was lying on the table. “No I haven’t had a boyfriend before. This is all new to me too Blaine! But I know it’s time, we can do this together”.
The next big step for them was going public. “Oh god this is gunna be awful, everyone is gunna gape and stare” Blaine panicked. Kurt laughed and grabbed Blaine’s hand. He took the boy’s head and made him stare into his eyes. Blaine automatically smiled Kurt’s favourite smile. “I think most people already know something’s happening. Just watch Sebastian’s jaw drop to the floor” Kurt winked at Blaine. Kurt took a breath and slammed the doors open dragging Blaine into the practise room. Suddenly a load of eyes were fixed on to the two boys.
Kurt quickly smiled. “Fellow warblers, I’m sure you have already heard all the rumours so we might as well just be straight with you all…yes me and Blaine are a couple”. A cheer went out from the corner where Wes, Nick and Trent were sitting. “WHAT?!” Sebastian let out a cry. “Him?! Seriously Kurt your dating him when you could have me?!” Silence. “Hmmm yes Sebastian I am because unlike you Blaine isn’t a sly diva who looks like a meerkat, he’s hardworking, honest, trustworthy, oh and did I mention his amazing voice and that he is a better person then you will ever be”. That felt good. Erg pretending to have a crush on Sebastian had been hard. He was so arrogant! Kurt saw Blaine smirk from the corner of his eye. Sebastian slowly sat down.
“Now, me and Blaine would like to sing a duet together”. David stood up and smiled “Warbler Kurt and warbler Blaine the floor is yours”. Kurt took a breath and nodded at Blaine. Say you'll love me every waking moment, turn my head with talk of summer time, say you need me with you now and always, promise me that all you say is true, that's all I ask of you.
Kurt’s beautiful voice filled the room. He looked over to Blaine who was pacing up and down. His body filled with warmth as Blaine returned his gaze. It was Blaine’s turn. 'Let me be your shelter, let me be your light, you're safe, no one will find you, your fears are far behind you.'
Kurt continued. 'All I want is freedom, a world with no more night, and you, always beside me, to hold me and to hide me.' Now both boys were singing, eyes never leaving each other, 'Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime, Say the word and I will follow you, Share each day with me, each night, each morning, Say you love me, You know I do, Love me, that's all I ask of you.'
The Warblers broke into applause as Blaine and Kurt crossed the room and embraced. This was true love thought Kurt, as he looked at Blaine, the most gorgeous boy he had ever seen. ‘I’ll never stop loving you.’ He whispered into his ear. ‘Even death won’t part us.’ Replied Blaine and smiled his adorable smile. Then the two boys parted, took each other’s hands and sat on the sofa, ready to start rehearsals.
As they left an hour later Blaine’s phone began to ring, and Kurt couldn't help but notice that his face fell when he saw the caller ID, and how reluctantly he answered.
‘Hello Dad.’ Blaine’s voice sounded different, quieter and more serious. Kurt could only hear a muffled tone down the phone but Blaine’s dad sounded harsh and unfriendly.
For about five minutes Blaine simply replied in mono-syllabic answers, but then Nick walked past and said hello to them both and asked Kurt about an idea for Sectionals. As they were talking Kurt heard Blaine’s dad ask who he was with.
‘I’m with Kurt dad. He’s my, my-‘but Blaine stopped and looked guiltily at Kurt, Kurt looked at him questioningly and watched as Blaine closed his eyes and said almost in a whisper, ‘he’s my boyfriend dad.’ Silence. Blaine didn’t open his eyes until there were muffles down the end of the line and the phone went dead. He looked up at Kurt and said, ‘my dad’s still not quite ready to accept I’m gay, but I don’t care. I’m proud of who I am, I’m proud to be different, and most of all I’m proud of you. I’m sick of him coming between me and my dreams, telling me I can’t go on stage because it’s a ‘useless career’. I’m done with him, for good. All I need is you Kurt.’
‘Well I’m not going anywhere in a hurry. You’re amazing Blaine, you can do anything if you try, I believe in you.’ And then they kissed, and even though they were in a crowded hallway, it seemed to them that they were the only people in the world.
