As Kurt Hummel strode down the hallways of McKinley wearing his football jersey and his hair flopping down into his eyes, he smirked at the looks of admiration that he got.
He leaned up against the locker of none other than Rachel Berry, who immediately flushed and dropped her text-books after noticing him there.
"Hey, you." Kurt crooned in a voice an octave deeper than his normal voice. He had been acting that way ever since the brief holiday in December, where he had blamed his deeper voice on 'puberty', whilst he had in fact altered it to fit his new persona.
Kurt Hummel was tired of being a loser and after Rachel's fling with Puck a few weeks prior, dating her would surely get him to the top of the heap. Besides that, he knew that there was no way in hell that Rachel would put out and was thankful for that fact, as he was very much gay.
"H-Hey, Kurt," Rachel breathed at seeing her boyfriend of two weeks leaning up against her locker, "How are you?"
"My day just got a million times better when I saw you, Rachel. You're like my sun." Kurt replied nearly sarcastically but making himself sound sincere as Rachel basically melted into a puddle of goo in front of him.
At first, Rachel was almost impossible to tolerate as Kurt felt like shoving duct-tape against her mouth every time she spoke, but after some chats, they actually had a lot in common.
Kurt knew that Rachel was using him to get over Finn and to make Finn jealous, but what he didn't know was that she was falling for him.
"You're so amazing." Rachel took his hand as she said that, swinging their palms back-and-forth.
"You are, too, m'dear," Kurt smiled at her, leaning in to peck her quickly right before they were both slushied.
"Take that, glee-atches!" A football player chortled as cherry slushie was tossed into their faces.
Rachel spluttered, tears stinging in her eyes as Kurt led her into the bathroom, wiping her face off gently before tending to his. Even though Rachel had been deluded into thinking that Kurt had romantic feelings for her, he still cared for her as a best friend.
"Hey, hey, here..." Kurt washed her hair under the tap as she smiled up in wonder at him.
"You know, I used to think you were gay," Rachel stated out of the blue and Kurt's eyes widened in panic but he just chortled.
She blushed, "Well, I mean, your voice used to be very high and you were so fashionable that I just assumed. I guess you just grew into your looks."
Kurt grinned at her, "You did, too. I remember you back in middle school with the pastel colored skirts and shirts..."
"I still have those..." Rachel mused, gesturing for Kurt to turn around as she slipped her owl-print sweater off and put a cashmere sweater that Kurt had gotten her a week prior on instead of the ugly argyle sweater she had insisted on bringing to school.
Despite hating her normal fashion sense, Kurt had grown fond of it and didn't want to change Rachel for himself- He was selfish enough for using her as a beard.
"I really like that on you." Kurt smiled, taking her hand as they finished cleaning themselves off, "It matches your chocolate brown eyes."
Rachel stopped for a moment and pushed Kurt against a bathroom stall, sticking her tongue into his mouth.
After the initial shock and disgust he felt, Kurt started kissing her back: This charade would never work if he didn't make himself convincing. Besides, after getting to know her, he actually cared about Rachel and her feelings. If she found out about his preferences, now, then she would be heartbroken and Kurt would feel awful for doing that to her.
Besides, after Finn broke her heart and she couldn't be with Puck since he was pining over Quinn and helping her with her baby, as they had just started dating, Rachel was so fragile.
Kurt loved the look in her eyes when he gave her a present or told her she was beautiful, because he felt needed and wanted, and something told her that she felt the same. Maybe, in another universe, they could end up together, but now they'll just be there for each other when they have no one else.
Rachel looked him deep in the eyes as she leaned back, "I love you." Her eyes were dazed and suddenly widened in panic, "I-I that was too early wasn't it? Oh my God, I'm so sorry, and I-"
Kurt took her hands off of where she was cradling her face and chuckled, "I love you, too," As a friend and as a sister.
Rachel's eyes lit up, "R-Really?"
Something told Kurt that nobody besides her fathers had told her that before. He had to admit, that he felt warm and fuzzy because someone loved him like that.
"Really. Now come on, let's get to class." Kurt took her small hand and led her outside.
"Hey, Kurt?" Kurt's ex-crush, Finn Hudson stopped him as Kurt walked out of Geometry.
"Hey, Finn." Kurt smiled brightly at his fellow Football-Friend. Finn was the quarterback and Kurt was the kicker so they had naturally spent a lot of time talking.
"So, there's a rumor going around that you're dating Rachel?" Finn chuckled as he practically asked the question, hoping the answer was a bark of laughter and a loud 'no'.
"That's right." Kurt slung his new backpack over his shoulder and Finn's face morphed into one of shock.
"Like seriously, bro?" Finn looked brokenhearted, "You're dating her?"
Kurt turned to face him, "I don't want you to get hurt, Finn. But you really did hurt her. And I make her happy. So unless she wants you, then I'll be here for her. I don't want this to damage our friendship, but-"
"It's... okay." Finn sounded all choked up as he stared longingly at Rachel who was walking towards Kurt with a determined look on her face, but spared Finn a fleeting glance as Quinn and Puck held hands down the hallway.
"Come on- you're going to walk me to History." Rachel smiled brightly.
"I want you to meet my parents, tonight." Rachel smiled as she and Kurt walked hand-in-hand to his car, since she was not old enough to drive.
"Really?" Kurt was flabbergasted but after seeing the hurt look on Rachel's face, corrected himself, "I mean, I was just shocked, but of course!"
Rachel's eyes brightened as she hopped into the passenger seat of the car and started chatting about Patti LuPone's new book that she had gotten for Christmas. Kurt just listened to her, glad to see her so happy for the first time in months.
He knew that she didn't have many friends, so now that she was dating him and his renewed popularity, she had become friends with a few of the other footballer's girlfriends as well as the ones that she had met at a mixer for Seniors that Kurt had taken her to. Both were only sophomores, but finding people who appreciated Broadway like they did was hard to find.
"Here we are," Kurt chuckled nervously and Rachel put her hand on his arm, pecking him on the lips lightly. He could smell and taste her peppermint gum as she whispered, "Don't be worried, they'll love you. But excuse my brother if he's rude. He's never quite measured up to my level of talent."
"You have a brother?" Kurt asked, surprised.
Rachel laughed, "I never told you? His name's Blaine. He's gay, and I'm only telling you because I know you're not homophobic. He's pretty... dapper. Goes to Dalton in Westerville-"
"He goes to another school? Why?" Kurt asked curiously.
"He was bullied at McKinley at the end of eighth grade. He was the guy who was shoved into the port-o-potty for the weekend."
"Oh my Gaga, that was him?" Kurt gasped, "Poor kid."
Rachel nodded sadly, "He's gotten better, though. Out and proud. I think he he'll probably interrogate you, so be prepared."
Kurt gulped, "I'll try."
Rachel kissed him once more and opened the car door, stepping out gracefully as Kurt did the same, locking the car as he did so.
He immediately took her hand, nervous. He had never met anyone's parents before... Well, besides Carole Hudson, but that didn't count, as she was dating his dad.
She rung the doorbell and a boy of around 16 years of age opened the door.
Sweet mother of God.
"Blaine." Rachel nodded, tugging Kurt along in a controlling manner as she stormed past him, "DAD? PAPA?" She called into the other room, leaving the two boys alone.
"So..." Kurt started, wringing his hands together nervously.
"You're dating my sister?" Blaine blurted out and Kurt narrowed his eyes.
"That I am. Why?"
"You just seem very gay."
Obviously Blaine had no filter as he slapped a hand over his mouth at the shocked look on Kurt's face, "I-I mean... Not that you seem very gay- I mean, I just have a really good gaydar, and I'm sorry..." He waved his hand amidst his panic, looking for a name.
Kurt smiled softly, "Kurt," He breathed out in his natural voice but coughed, lowering it subtly, "And yes, I'm in a relationship with your sister, and no, I am not gay. Apology accepted, Blaine Berry."
"It's actually Anderson," Blaine smiled shyly, raking his eyes up and down Kurt's body but snapping out of his trance, "My name. Blaine Anderson."
"Why is it...?" Kurt started, gesturing to the house.
"Oh, my parents are Leroy Berry and Hiram Anderson. They just go by Berry, but I've grown used to Anderson."
"Suits you," Kurt commented, cocking his head.
Blaine bit his lip as he yet again doubted the boy's sexuality, "So, how did you and Rachel start dating? Last time I checked, she was singing heartbreaking ballads about someone called Finn and I walked in on her making out with a boy who had a Mohawk."
Kurt chuckled. It was surprisingly easy to talk with Blaine, "Well, that was Puck who you saw making out with her. They dated a few months ago. Finn had a pregnant girlfriend, Quinn-"
"As in 'Queen Bitch Quinn Who Can't Just Disappear, Already?'" Blaine raised an eyebrow as Kurt shook with laughter.
"Yeah, that's her. It turns out, Puck was the father of Quinn's baby and Finn broke up with Quinn when he found out but told Rach he wasn't over Quinn yet... And I walked into a bathroom stall to hear her crying," Kurt decided not to mention the fact that he had ran there because Karofsky had just tried to swirly him in the other bathroom, "We talked, hit it off, went for coffee... Three weeks later and ta-da!" Kurt made jazz hands as Blaine grinned.
"And all that Jazz!" Blaine sung in a melodious and beautiful tone of voice that just made Kurt feel like his heart just stopped.
"Start the car, I know a whoopie spot-" Kurt sung suggestively before they broke out into giggles.
"I like you, Kurt," Blaine grinned, hazel eyes shining at Kurt wished that he had said that under different circumstances, "You're good in my book. Just promise to come over when Rach insists on watching 'Funny Girl' for the eleventh time."
"She's already forced me to see it three times." Kurt bit his bottom lip, accidentally tripping as he tried to step behind himself. Luckily, Blaine's arms caught him by the waist before his head could come in contact with the ground.
As Kurt was slowly lifted up, he stared into Blaine's eyes as Blaine obviously blushed and stared right back. Right then, Kurt wanted nothing more than to run his fingers through Blaine's silky hair and Blaine leaned in. Just as their lips were about to touch-
"Kurt!" Rachel's shrill voice laughed, "I found Dad and Papa!"
Kurt quickly flew back and stared at Blaine in shock as Blaine did the same. Nearly kissing a complete stranger? What the hell is the matter with you, Kurt? A complete stranger who is your girlfriend's brother, by the way.
Just as Blaine was about to open his mouth, Kurt shook his head and ran over to where Rachel was calling for him.
"So Kurt, what extra-curricular activities do you take?" Hiram asked as he lifted a bite of broccoli into his mouth. Kurt ate his vegetarian meal as he pretended not to notice Blaine staring at him from across the table and Rachel gushing to Leroy about Kurt as if he were not there.
Kurt swallowed a bite of food, "Well, besides football, I'm in our Glee club, of course - that's where I met Rach... I'm also in the fashion designers club and Rachel convinced me to join the speech club."
Leroy suddenly looked interested, "Fashion designers club?"
Kurt shrugged, "Before my mother passed away, she taught me how to sew and I find it rather intriguing. Ooh, I'm also in the French club."
Hiram's eyes lit up as he started talking to Kurt in rapid French, to which Kurt responded enthusiastically.
Blaine cleared his throat, causing both men, Kurt and Rachel to turn to him, "Rachel, I have an announcement for you. Dad and Papa were going to tell you, but decided it would be better if I did."
"What happened, Blay?" Rachel asked. She obviously cared for her brother regardless of brushing him off throughout the whole night.
"I'm transferring to McKinley on Monday." Blaine spoke. Silence rung in the room until Rachel squealed and launched herself at her brother, hugging him tightly as she grinned, "Really? Why now? Not that I don't want you there, but did something happen at Dalton?"
Blaine rolled his eyes, "Besides my friends saying that you were 'sneaky sexy', no. I just want to keep an eye on you and spend more time with you before we go to college."
Kurt gulped nervously. Seeing this attractive, gay, beautiful, intelligent and dreamy boy at school that was off limits because Kurt happened to be dating his very female sister? This should be interesting.
