Colin Anderson wasn't happy.
He'd just finished listening to the voice messages his eldest grandson Cooper had left on his machine -- four to be exact.
Hey Grandpa, it's Cooper -- I just talked to Blaine....bad news: Mom just ambushed him in Chicago. Isn't she supposed to be on lockdown? Okay, I'll try calling again later. 'Bye.
...
Grandpa, I really need to talk to you -- I'm scared, I want to know what's going on. Did you know about Mom? Call me when you get this, please. 'Bye.
...
Okay...I'm sorry if I'm being annoying or whatever, but I'm just trying to make sure Blaine doesn't get hurt. Did Dad know anything about her? Please call me.
...
Okay...I'll figure this out on my own. Just...please call me when you can, because we really need to talk. 'Bye.
...
Colin sighed and dialled Cooper's cell.
Hello?
"Coop? It's Grandpa." he frowned at hearing the noise in the background. "Where are you?"
LAX -- I'm getting on a flight to Chicago. You got my messages?
The older man sighed and ran a hand through his grayish white hair.
"I did." He sat down carefully in his arm chair. "I had no idea your mother was out or in Chicago. Nor did your grandmother."
What about Dad? Would someone have called him?
"I don't see how. He had the marriage annulled six months after he left. Rebecca is her emergency contact."
Rebecca was the aunt whom Cooper had called and asked her to get him and Blaine out of that house. She'd flown with them from Los Angeles to Westerville before returning to her home a few days later.
There was a light rapping noise on the wall behind him, and he looked up to see his wife, Heather watching him questioningly.
"Listen, Coop, I know you're going to see Blaine at Nationals but if you see your mother don't do anything, okay? Just get Blaine out of there, understand?" Colin sighed. "Are you coming to Ohio after Nationals are over?"
Yeah. For a week. My last audition didn't really work out.
"I'm sorry to hear that, kid. Have Blaine call us when New Directions wins at Nationals, alright? Have a safe flight."
I will, and thanks. Love you, and Grandma. 'Bye.
"You too. 'Bye Cooper."
He hung up.
Heather frowned at him.
"Colin? What's going on?" she asked.
His reply was simply one word:
"Jenna."

One thing that shocked Kurt was the fact that Schuester allowed him to sleep in the boys' room that night.
He knew it had to do with Blaine, and he was grateful for that, because his boyfriend really needed him.
Sam, Finn, Puck, Joe, Rory, Mike and Artie had taken over the beds and the cots, so the two were curled up on the floor on an air mattress, which was actually very comfortable.
Until Blaine started having a nightmare, that is.
"Blaine?" Kurt ran his fingers gently through the other boy's curls, laid a gentle kiss on his clammy forehead. "It's okay, it's not real."
Blaine cried out and the sound sent a chill down his spine.
"Blaine, honey, it's me." Kurt tried to keep the panic out of his voice. "Wake up okay?"
Tears slid down Blaine's cheeks and then Kurt heard Puck, Joe, Finn, and Mike all swear and pop straight up in bed looking around wildly because Blaine screamed.
"Blaine!" the brunette shouted. "Blaine, wake up!"
Hazel eyes flew open and Blaine looked around before collapsing into Kurt, sobbing hysterically.
"Ssshh." the senior soothed. "Ssshhh. It's okay, you're safe, Blaine. I won't let anyone hurt you. It was just a nightmare. You're alright. Ssshhh." he kissed his boyfriend's cheek before glancing at the other boys, who were staring at him.
"Sorry guys." he said. "He had a rough day."
The other boys mumbled for him to forget it, but Mike climbed off of his cot, and made his way over to the two boys on the floor.
"Anything I can do?" he asked hesitantly.
Kurt smiled, but shook his head as he helped Blaine lay down and held his hand as he waited for the junior to fall asleep once more.
"Not really...but I would ask that you not bug him about it in the morning."
Mike frowned.
"You know what that was about?" he said. "It have anything to do with that psycho we ran into outside?"
Kurt, who'd been in the process of making sure Blaine was asleep, looked up, startled.
"What?"
"It is!" said Mike, eyes widening.
Kurt swore silently. As long as Mike didn't try to get more out of him...
"Yeah I figured you meant that, but what I was refering to was when you called that woman a psycho. What makes you say that?"
Mike rolled his eyes and situated himself comfortably on the maroon carpet of the hotel room.
"She didn't even care about the train." he explained, keeping his voice low. "Once Rachel figured out the map, she'd lost interest -- started bugging Santana and Quinn to tell her where you took Blaine. Then Schue finally joined us and she ran off. You know who she is?"
Kurt looked at him pleadingly.
"Mike, if I could tell you, I would, but I can't. I promised Blaine I wouldn't." he said.
The Asian boy smiled and nodded.
"Okay. I won't say anything." he lightly nudged Blaine's shoulder, chuckling when his friend responded by mumbling something unintelligible and snuggling against Kurt's chest. "'Night."
"G'Night, Mike." Kurt responded.
Only when he was certain that Blaine was not caught up in another nightmare did he finally succomb to sleep.
Comments
Oh, you tickled every blangst bone I have with that chapter! I love how Kurt is so protective of Blaine and tries to keep the curiosity of the other boys at bay, but I think the rest of ND is more perceptive than he gives them credit for. Love the little bit with Mike ruffling Blaine at the end only to see the boy curl closer to Kurt. I can't wait for Cooper to get there, he sound like he is determined not to let his mom mess up his little brother. Though I'm curious as to how much he himself might be messed up by the trauma of being abused by the same woman. Poor Anderson boys!
I'm so glad you liked it! I would agree, if Mike worked that much out, I'm sure the others have too. You're right though, Cooper is not about to let her hurt Blaine -- and he is pretty messed up from what he sufferred...even if we haven't seen just how much yet.
i liked that mike was the only one who acknowledged blaine's fear and tried to offer some comfort/help. i like that mike cares about blaine's welfare. that was a nice touch. i hope mike continues to play a role in the resolution in this story. is this part of the bike friendship? off to read the next chapter...
