"So Blaine, how have you been since our last talk?"He didn't look his shrink in the eye. If he did, he would break down completely.
Blaine had been going to see Dr. Lita Collins -- the psychiatrist his older brother Cooper had called and set up more appointments with -- for about a month and a half, and he hated every, single session. It wasn't because she was mean -- she was really nice, always had been. It wasn't that she had an office that looked like a knock-off of the ones you saw on TV -- complete with the freaking huge leather couch.
No...it was the fact that she made him talk about everything: the abuse, the neglect...the kidnapping...his nightmares...
Especially his nightmares. Blaine had only originally kept those between himself and Cooper, as well as his boyfriend, Kurt Hummel.
Unfortunately, neither of them were an option right now. Cooper had gone back to Los Angeles after Kurt's graduation from high school, having been given a small role in an independant film. Kurt was in New York, experiencing his first semester at the New York Academy for Dramatic Arts (NYADA).
And Blaine was stuck here...in Lima, Ohio experiencing his third month as a senior at William McKinley High School.
"Blaine?"
He looked up at her, startled. Her big brown eyes held a concerned look.
"What?" He didn't really care if he was rude to her or not.
"I asked how you've been," she said, watching him closely.
"Peachy." he snapped.
Lita rolled her eyes.
"We agreed, Blaine -- no lies. Remember, nothing between us leaves this room."
Blaine snorted and lifted his hand to mess with his curls. He hadn't gelled them today...nor was he dressed in his usual button down or cardigan. He wasn't even wearing a bowtie. Instead, he had a navy jacket on over a white t-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes.
"We didn't agree to anything." he retorted. "You spouted some bullshit at our first meeting since I stopped coming when I transfered to Dalton. I only agreed with Cooper that I would talk about anything."
"Have you had any nightmares?" she asked, ignoring his statement.
"Try going through what I did and not have them."She pursed her lips and made a note in her journal.
"You have one last night?" Silence. "Okay so you did. We can talk about that."
Blaine's head jerked up, his eyes flashing.
"Not a chance in hell." he snarled. He would never talk about the horrors in last night's latest nightmare.
Lita set her notebook aside and picked up her cell phone.
"Am I going to have to get Cooper on speed-dial?" she asked, "You know that I know that he said you promised him you'd talk about it."
The teen's expression changed from angry to frightened...frightened and disappointed. Lita knew he'd talk if it meant Cooper didn't get to hear how difficult he was being during the sessions.
"It...It was a flashback...of when Coop and I were kids." A tear rolled down his cheek. She passed him a box of tissues. "Only it was -- different. She...She killed him; beat him to death right in front of me." he whispered, hands shaking. "My grandma doused me in cold water to wake me up -- Maggie got soaked."
"You mean the stuffed dog Kurt gave you?" Lita asked, knowing if she turned the conversation to the abuse and neglect Blaine and Cooper had suffered as children from their mother, Jenna, Blaine would shut up. He wouldn't speak unless Cooper was a) in the room, or b) since he was away, on speaker phone.
"Yes."
Lita kept the conversation going for another twenty minutes or so before allowing him to leave.
---
"How was it?"
"Tina, you ask me that every time I've had a session. D'you really think my answer's gonna be different? It sucked." Blaine ripped out his Trigonometry homework and passed it forward. "Besides, she does more talking than I do."
Tina sighed, her expression sympathetic.
"I'm sorry." she hesitated. "but wasn't the reason Cooper set you up with her so you would talk about it?"
"Tina --"
"I'm just saying --"
He gave her a look that told her to drop it.
---
"Why do you want to do this? After what she did?"
Blaine looked over at his grandfather, Colin Anderson. The two were sitting at a table in a cell that was used for visitation between inmates and their families or friends.
"You know why, and so does Cooper. I want to hear it from her heavily medicated mouth why she did everything."
"We know why she did everything, kid: she's insane."
"I know that." Blaine sighed. "They found her unfit to stand trial, remember?"
"I prefer not to -- I remember Cooper saying over the phone he wanted to kill her for trying to strangle you at her arraignment."
At that moment the door opened up and Blaine watched as his mother was led in. She looked extremely different from how she had looked at her arraignment. She looked -- well, like she'd just stopped caring. Her hair was a mess and she looked exhausted.
"Ten minutes." the two attendants informed them.
"No hello?" Colin addressed his ex-daughter-in-law. "We didn't have to come here, you know."
"You didn't have to press charges either, Colin." she snapped.
"After what you did?" Blaine said angrily. "You're lucky enough not to be serving life without parole!"
"Watch your mouth," Jenna spit out.
"When you learn that what you did to Cooper, and what you did to me was wrong, maybe I will." he retorted.
Colin gripped his arm tightly.
Don't provoke her, Blaine, don't do it -- not after the fiasco that was that arraignment...
Blaine bit his lip and then after a moment or two of silence, he stood.
"I don't know why I -- why we bothered to come." he said, voice shaking. "You're not sorry, you probably never will be...and that means I'm done." he looked at Colin. "Can we go please?"
Colin stood and nodded.
"Let's go, Blaine."
"So you still hate Dr. Collins."
Blaine snorted and took a drink from the cup of water sitting on his desk. He was in the middle of a Skype call with Kurt.
"I don't hate her, I hate that she makes me talk about it. You know that."
Kurt sighed and tapped his pen on the side of his notebook that was in his lap.
"You know she doesn't do it to hurt you, Blaine. Cooper would say the same thing." he said.
The senior scowled.
"Cooper's the one that found her after the Sadie Hawkins incident." he said. "She threatens to call him if I don't talk!"
Kurt decided to change the subject. If he kept up on Jenna and the shrink, his boyfriend would just get angrier.
"How is glee club going?"
Blaine brightened at that.
"We're going to compete at Sectionals in a couple weeks." he said. The brunette nodded, already knowing this. "Mr. Schue still doesn't have a set list finalized."
Of course. thought Kurt.
"Sugar and Brittany want to do a duet, but I dunno -- Artie and I have some good ideas, but I dunno..." Blaine sighed, slumping forward and resting his chin on his arms. "Harmony and Wade are both being a pain in the ass...only suggesting songs that would fit them, not the group. It's like Rachel's typical drama -- but double. Speaking of Rachel, has she started at NYU yet?"
Kurt shook his head.
"No, she and Finn got an appartment for pretty cheap that's close to this campus and she's starting during Spring Semester."
"Oh. Tell her I said hi. They didn't get married yet, did they?"
"I will, and no -- Dad talked them out of it for now.""Good." Blaine sighed. "I miss you."
"I miss you too." Kurt leaned forward and touched the screen of his laptop lightly. "Where are you applying?"
"NYADA of course...Parsons...NYU...Ohio State...and Juliard," he replied. "Cooper's taking me up there in February to visit some of the campuses. Do you think -- ?"He was cut off when his cell phone vibrated. He picked up, mouthing 'Cooper' at his screen, which caused Kurt to snort.
The countertenor decided to use the time Blaine was on the phone with his brother to glance at his notes. He had a Drama quiz tomorrow and he really did need to study.
Then he heard Blaine yell,
"What?! They -- They can't do that!" he glanced at his screen, horrified. "Yeah -- I'll tell him. Kurt, Cooper just told me -- they're releasing our mom, putting her under house arrest. They're going ahead with the trial."
