Sky stayed for a total of three days. Over that time Kurt saw Blaine twice, once when he'd glanced out of the window to see him laying in the grass with Kathy and enjoying the sun, and the other when he'd come in to serve him and Sky breakfast, (at that point he had to grip the edge of the table and grit his teeth while Sky chattered to him unaware.) The first night the suitor stayed, Kurt remained stiff and uncomfortable, curled up on his side while Sky slept soundly beside him with an arm draped over Kurt's waist. They'd spent the day cuddling on the bed next to Burt's, Sky's chest pressed against Kurt's back as he faced his Dad's unmoving form. In all honesty, Kurt didn't mind having Sky there as comfort, but he'd feel a lot more comfortable if Blaine had been the one stroking his back and whispering small endearments in his ear. He kept looking for faults in the suitors personality, but found nothing that was serious or uninviting. Sky was just a good guy trying to please his parents and be happy, and Kurt could relate to that, he tried to feel more than just friendship towards the boy with unique eyes and cute dimples but it was impossible. Yeah he was nice, but he wasn't Blaine.
However over the three days Sky and Kurt grew a lot closer. They had quiet a few similar interests and it was easy to have a conversation, but in the same way that it was easy to talk to Kathy about what color shirt to buy, not the way it was easy to talk to Blaine about how scared he was about everything.
Kurt had managed to avoid most of the attempts of Sky being more physical with him, but on the last night before Sky left to go home his mind went blank and the excuse of "I'm really tired, sorry," didn't seem to cut it.
"Sky, stop it," Kurt grumbled, batting the boys hand away from his lower abdomen where it had been trailing lightly back and forth for the last few minutes.
"But I'm leaving tomorrow," Sky's lips turned down in a pout against the Prince's neck, "I'm gonna miss you."
Kurt bit back a huge sigh, "I'll miss you too."
"Hmm," Sky hummed and kissed slowly down Kurt's skin, the Prince screwed up his eyes and tried to block out the motion. It wasn't that it was unpleasant, it just felt...wrong.
"Sky-"
"Kurt," Sky groaned, slipping his hands down The Prince's sides.
Kurt struggled not to cringe away as Sky started sucking at various places along his neck, gripping the comforter with both fists as he tried to think of an excuse that wouldn't hurt the boy's feelings.
"Kurt!"
The door flew open and Kate stood there in a red silk robe and cream, fluffy slippers. She froze for a second, a soft blush appearing on her makeup-less face.
"Shit, I'm sorry I didn't mean to...er...interrupt. Your dad, he's waking up."
Kurt sat up, his head spinning and crashing painfully against Sky's chin, "Really?"
"Yeah, come on!" Kate beckoned him forward and the Prince almost fell out of bed in his haste. He launched himself across the room and grabbed Kate's hand tightly in his own. And then he was running.
•••••••••••••
"Dad?" Kurt's face fell in disappointment, Burt lay as still as ever on the bed.
Sky had caught up with them by then and was gripping tightly to Kurt's free hand, Kate still holding his other.
"Kate, he's not..."
"Babe, look! His hand," Sky pointed out, squeezing Kurt's own trembling fingers.
The King's hand was twitching beside him on the bed. Sky pulled Kurt forward before slipping his arm around the Prince's waist, holding him close, "Do you want to tell him or should I?"
Kurt frowned in confusion but didn't look away from his Dad, "Tell him what?"
He didn't see Blaine walk through the door with Kathy following eagerly beside him.
"That we're finally engaged," Sky grinned and pulled Kurt closer to his side and kissing one of the red marks on his neck.
"Um..." Kurt's stomach dropped and he took a step forward, to be closer to his Dad and further away from his...fiance. "Y-You can tell him," he picked up his Dad's hand and squeezed it, biting his lip when the King squeezed back.
"Congratulations, Sir."
Kurt spun around and swallowed noticeably, "B-Blaine, I..."
"I'm happy for you," The slave choked out before he took a few shaky steps backwards and left the room.
"Blaine." Kurt called after him but didn't let go of his father's hand. He couldn't just leave him now.
"Is he okay?" Sky frowned, "I'll go and..."
"No! No...er, I mean stay with me...please," Kurt gripped his Dad's hand tighter, "Kathy can you go and..."
"Of course Sir," Kathy threw the Prince a look before she left and Kurt gave her a pleading look in reply. Blaine wasn't supposed to find out like this.
"Are you tryin' to snap off my fingers kid?" The voice was weak and gruff from disuse but it had Kurt letting out a small cry of surprise before tears were pouring down his face at an alarming rate.
"Dad, Dad, oh my...," Kurt's words got choked off with a sob. And he scrambled onto the bed, throwing his arms around the Kings neck.
Burt let out a 'ooff', patting his son's back lightly as he was almost strangled, "Calm down kiddo."
"How are you feeling, Sir?" Sky asked, helping Kurt back down from the bed unnecessarily and holding him protectively in his arms as the last few tears of relief escaped.
"Sky?" Burt struggled to sit up a little more, clearing his throat.
Kurt jumped out of Sky's hold in search of water and wincing as he listened to their conversation.
"Yes, Sir. As soon as I heard about you I had to make sure Kurt was okay."
It was ridiculous how formal Sky was being. He sounded like a completely different person.
"You're a good kid...So, what actually happened? All I can remember is feeling...weird," Burt shuddered, and Kurt found a glass.
"You had a heart attack, Sir. The whole kingdom is worried," Sky explained over the sound of Kurt filling the glass with cold water from the streaming tap in the corner of the room.
Kurt walked back to his father and handed him the glass.
"That's very nice of Sky, isn't it Kurt," The king looked at the young Prince pointedly.
Kurt nodded.
"Have you stayed long?" Burt asked, taking a sip of his water.
"Just a few days Sir. But I do plan to be visiting my fiance a lot more often," Sky wrapped an arm tightly around Kurt's waist and grinned.
Burt coughed, spluttering water everywhere as his blue eyes turned youthful and brighter than Kurt had seen in a long time, "What did you just call him?"
"My fiance. My beautiful fiance," Sky kissed Kurt's cheek while Kurt turned red and Burt's eyes almost popped out from his head.
"Kurt?" The King asked, looking way too hopeful.
The Prince nodded and forced a smile, not trusting his voice.
Burt's face lit up in a grin and he looked up as though he was thanking the heavens, he's body melting into the mattress as the stress that had made him so ill drained from his limbs.
Sky's hand was burning through the material of Kurt's jeans, red hot and possessive on his hip; making him dizzy and his throat dry and scratchy. But he continued to smile, even letting Sky kiss him softly causing Burt to almost pass out from relief and laugh freely.
"We have so much planning to do! How long does it take to organize a wedding? I can't remember how long it took to do mine..."
Kurt blocked out his fathers excited babble and concentrated on the fact his father seemed so much better at the news, and that he was making him happy. Besides Sky could be a lot worse.
"Is it okay if I take a look at you, Sir?" A women who Kurt recognized walked in, she was around his fathers age and was a Slave who worked as a medic when they were short staffed because she had training, from where Kurt didn't know. She had looked after his father a lot, and Kurt had had a few conversations with her-she seemed nice enough.
"Of course, er...What's your name?"
"Carol, Sir. It's so good to see your eyes open at last."
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"Blaine...Blaine...Blaine for God sakes!" Kathy grabbed his arm to stop him where he was plowing down the corridor in no particular direction.
"Just go away," Blaine snarled, gripping his arm from Kathy's grasp.
"This doesn't change anything."
"No, it changes everything," Blaine disagreed, coming to a stop and just slinking to the floor in the middle of the thankfully empty corridor.
"Blaine, he still loves you," Kathy said quietly, sitting beside him.
"I feel like he's given up," Blaine admitted.
"Maybe he's just scares to look in case he can't find the answer."
Blaine sighed loudly, "Then I should just give up too?"
"Ever think he's just trying to make his Dad and the kingdom he's going to rule happy?"
"I just don't know what to do, Kath."
"Well...you're looking for a way out, and Kurt's trying to make the best of the situation," Kathy pointed out, "It kind of feels like that's the smart thing to do. You're covered either way."
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"I'm sorry I have to leave."
"It's okay," Kurt handed Sky his bag, "I'll see you again soon."
"Does your fiance get a kiss goodbye?" Sky winked, leaning forward in the doorway and puckering his lips dramatically.
Kurt snorted and kissed Sky swiftly, "See ya."
"Bye Beautiful," Sky cooed, giving Kurt a longing glance over his shoulder when he turned to walk away to his carriage.
Kurt felt his cheeks darken at the motion and quickly turned away, walking back up to his room, bursting through the door and throwing himself face-down on the bed-
"Ow!"
"Shit."
It just so happens Blaine was doing the same.
"Kurt, what the hell?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you, wasn't paying attention," Kurt explained, rolling off of Blaine, slightly to the side of him.
Blaine sighed, "It's okay."
Kurt chewed his lip, still laying with his hot faced pressed against the cold material.
"How's your Dad?"
"Good. He's sleeping," Kurt replied, muffled by the pillow.
"I...Are we?" Blaine chewed his lip, "I mean..."
Kurt shrugged, "I don't know. Are you...are you mad at me?"
"No, of course not," Blaine rolled so he was facing Kurt and the Prince did the same.
"I didn't...it just kind of...happened," Kurt screwed up his nose.
Blaine remained quiet for a second, "Honestly...it's fine. I kinda knew it was coming but I...it still shocked me I guess."
"You weren't meant to find out like that," Kurt whispered, squeezing his eyes closed.
Blaine hummed low in his throat, reaching forward and tracing lightly over the marks Sky had left on the Prince's neck.
Kurt put his hand over Blaine's, his eyes opening, "I'm so-"
"Stop apologizing. I can't expect you not to do certain...things with him," Blaine cringed and hid his face in Kurt's shoulder.
"Nothing really happened, it-"
"Is he a better kisser than me?"
"Blaine, stop it. Please?" Kurt frowned, "I haven't seen you for three days. I just want to..." He pulled the Slave into a warm embrace and hummed into Blaine's hair.
Blaine sighed a reply, "Should we be doing this? Your fiance wouldn't be very happy."
"We're not doing anything," Kurt denied, pulling Blaine protectively closer.
"I'm just...confused. I thought you were going to tell your Dad about us?" Blaine asked.
Kurt tensed, "I...I was, but I'm killing him with the stress. I've already killed one parent, I can't kill another."
"Kurt, you haven't killed anyone..."
"You didn't see his face when Sky told him," Kurt interrupted, "Blaine, I love you. But I can't put anymore pressure on my Dad."
"Okay, I get it," Blaine nodded, "I just..." He trailed off.
"Just what?" Kurt asked gently.
"What do we do now?" Blaine asked, "Is that it now between us?"
"I...I don't know," Kurt admitted.
