This is the prologue that basically explains the basics of what's going on. I am writing chapter one as I post this, so hopefully that won't take too long.
Each year, those at the age of 17 were all obligated to participate on Division Day. Ever since the rebellion happened 75 years ago, the country had been divided into sectors.
Anarchia, the newly named government, were those who controlled the sectors.
The people who were part of Anarchia were the wealthy, cruel type. The type who controlled and hurt others for their own benefit. To them, those who didn't belong in their circle of wealth and greed were considered garbage. Alive simply for the sake of pleasing them. Division Day was practically a holiday in their area. In their minds, Division Day meant more workers, more money, and more power.
On this day, every 17 year old had to step forth when his or her name was called to have a blood sample taken from them. The blood will be placed into 5 different bowls filled with different colored substances. Each bowl represented one of 5 sectors. If the substance in one of the bowls started to swirl, surrounding the blood drop, then the owner of the blood would be put into that sector. Those of which their blood wouldn't cause a reaction in any of the 5 bowls were banished from the country, having been considered a rejection of humanity.
Although the percentage of Rejects were low, that didn't stop the trickle of fear that crawled up the teenagers' skin as they awaited their fate.
Each sector had specific rules and traditions.
The first sector was named Coercion, but it was also known as Breeders, as well. In this sector, the teenager will be matched randomly with another for the purpose of marriage and conceiving. Whether or not the teenager was gay, he or she will be matched with the opposite gender, due to the fact that the sole purpose was to make Anarchia's population grow. The husband did not work, nor did the woman, seeing as their needs were provided by the Anarchs.
"The sector of vacuous life." They called it.
Although, the child was taken from the parents an hour after its birth, and was sent to a different sector, Ensconce. The sector where those chosen into it were the ones responsible for the children. They would educate them, feed them, care for them, look after them until they were of age.
Basically, nobody knew who their parents were. The Anarchs claimed it was to avoid heart ache at separation, but the people knew better.
In the third sector, Assailant, girls and boys were put straight into the army. Anarchia was known for its mercenary ways, as its greed for power and money. Therefore, training said boys and girls to be able to fight and protect the Anarchs from whatever danger surrounded them.
Dynamic was the fourth sector. Due to its connections with the Anarchs, a lot of the teenagers on Division Day hoped for their blood to cause a reaction in that sector's bowl. In it, they would work for approximately 5 hours a day, with freedom of doing whatever they pleased after work. Other than the prohibition of marriage and breeding, there weren't many rules that they had to follow. Falling in love and having partners was allowed in both Dynamic and Ensconce. But marriage was limited to Coercion.
The Dynamic's work consisted of textiles, fishing, mining, and other necessary jobs to help the Anarch's wealth and needs grow.
And lastly, Destitute.
Destitute was the sector people wished to avoid.
If there was a food chain, this sector would be at the bottom of it. Its occupants dull, emotionless, and heartless.
People would prefer being Rejects than getting put in Destitute, and that says a lot, considering the embarrassment that is a Reject.
Drugs, profanity, restraints, hunger, blood drive, filth, and pain. "The home of the soulless."
The Anarchs would take people from this sector, and put them in monthly fights. The contestants would be put in an enclosed ring and ordered to fight to the death for the sole purpose of pleasuring the rich.
The most thing people on Division Day feared was to become a Destitute. Everybody knew that love had severe consequences.
Those who fell in love in Destitute were to be tortured and killed, no exceptions.
