For the next four days, Blaine didn’t go to school, he didn’t go to Breadsticks or the Lima Bean, he didn’t go anywhere except the necessary doctor’s appointments and treatment times. Kurt happily obliged when Blaine begged him to just let him stay home and do nothing for a few days. He figured that shaving your head had to be somewhat traumatic and, though he still found Blaine every bit as attractive, he understood that he needed a little sulking time. But when Saturday morning rolled around and Blaine still hadn’t really left the house, Kurt put his foot down.

“Kurt,” Blaine whined, “I really don’t wanna go. Please can we just stay home, just you and me?”

“No,” Kurt stated firmly, “No way. Blaine, I get that this is a little intimidating, but you’re the one who said you wanted to maintain the normalcy.”

“I know, but that was before. I – I can’t go out like this Kurt, I just can’t.”

“Why not?” Kurt took a step closer to the couch where Blaine was sitting with his arms crossed and his puppy dog stare in full effect. “Nobody is going to care that you’re bald. “

“I care,” Blaine said forcefully, “I care that I’m bald. This look screams cancer patient, Kurt. There’s no hiding now, it’s pretty obvious. I just – I just don’t want people to look at me differently. And you know they’re going to, Kurt. They’re going to point and stare and throw pity faces at the poor kid with cancer. I don’t want to be that!”

“You won’t be,” Kurt said, sitting down next to Blaine now. “You’re still you, Blaine. Everyone you care about knows that. And those strangers, the ones who don’t even really know you? Who cares about them? You didn’t used to. Not when I was the one who was the freak, the one who was chastised. You marched right up to me and took my hand and we danced in front of everyone, glaring homophobes and all. How is this any different?”

“I don’t know. It just feels like it is.”

“Just go with me. Please? Pretty please, Blaine Warbler,” Kurt nudged his shoulder, “If you feel uncomfortable at all, we’ll leave. At least think about it?” Blaine sighed.

“Fine. Fine, I’ll think about it.”

“Great!” Kurt said as he jumped up. “I’ll pick you up at seven! And you better be ready!” Kurt lifted Blaine’s chin, gave him a quick peck on the lips, and skipped out the front door. Blaine couldn’t help but smile and shake his head as Kurt left, knowing full well that they were going to prom whether he wanted to or not.
