Author's Notes: Beware, this story will not always be this fluffy.
Kurt sat across from Blaine in the small booth near the corner of the restaurant, sipping on his Diet Coke. Blaine munched on a breadstick and flipped through his menu before finally setting it down and looking over at Kurt. The latter looked up as well, feeling Blaine’s gaze on him, and raised a brow. Blaine didn’t say anything, but he continued to watch Kurt and a soft smile appeared on his lips. “What?” Kurt asked, putting his glass back down on the table. It was uncharacteristically busy in Breadsticks for a Thursday afternoon and Kurt hoped he wasn’t doing anything embarrassing without knowing.

“Nothing,” Blaine said, ducking his head. Kurt’s head tilted to the side in puzzlement. Why was Blaine acting so weird?

“Blaine?” Kurt crossed his arms in front of him on the table and leaned across to Blaine, speaking just above a whisper. “Did you forget to take your medication this morning?” Blaine let out a short fit of laughter before looking at Kurt through his thick veil of lashes.

“Yeah, you might have to send me to a psych ward.” Kurt smiled easily.

“I’m sure I can handle you.” Blaine’s brows rose and he opened his mouth to respond, but their waitress, an elder woman with a kind smile, reappeared at the edge of the table. She asked for their orders before flitting back toward the kitchen. Blaine leaned back in the booth and resumed staring at Kurt. “Do I have something on my face?” Kurt asked, blindly touching his face to see if he could feel anything abnormal. Blaine smiled and shook his head.

“No,” he said humorously.

“Am I missing something?” Blaine just shook his head again. “Then why do you keep staring at me?” Kurt asked exasperatedly. Blaine bit his lip and looked away then.

“Because you’re cute,” he murmured and Kurt felt a wave of heat rush over his cheeks.

“Oh,” was all Kurt could say. Blaine thought he was cute? Blaine snorted.

“Yeah,” he said simply and glanced back at him. Kurt felt himself begin smile and though he tried to force it down, his grin grew broader by the second. Kurt cleared his throat, before speaking.

“You’re not so bad yourself,” he squeaked out. Blaine smiled then too and leaned his head against his fist on the table top.

“I’m glad someone thinks so. My brother always told me I had a face for radio.” Kurt laughed then and was thankful that he was with Blaine. He had been worried that this “date” would be awkward, since the two boys had never talked for more than five consecutive minutes, but Blaine was good at filling the silence. He made Kurt feel comfortable.

“I would definitely have to disagree with him.”

“Oh, really? Is that why you were so adamant about this being a date?” Kurt flushed.

“I seem to recall you begging me to go to dinner with you.” Blaine smirked and gave a soft shrug.

“I would’ve groveled if I had to. I would’ve gotten down on my knees and wept.”

“You practically did,” Kurt grinned and Blaine looked at him astonished.

“I did not!”

“I’m pretty sure I saw a few tears.” Blaine leaned over the table, as far as he could without laying on it.

“I was merely another victim of your beauty. Stronger men than I have fallen.” Kurt felt his stomach do a flip, but he pushed it away. He rested his elbows on the table and folded his hands under his chin, batting his lashes at Blaine.

“There’s one flaw to that statement.”

“What’s that?”

“You are definitely the strongest.” Blaine continued to look up at Kurt. He wet his lips and after a moment he spoke again.

“Is that so?” Kurt hummed in response.

Kurt leaned forward a little when he suddenly felt another presence at their table. Kurt flew back in his seat and looked over to find their waitress standing there with two plates of food. Blaine retreated to his side a little slower than Kurt had, and the elder woman smiled knowingly at the boys as she placed their food in front of them. Kurt swore that if his face were any hotter it would melt off. “Let me know if I can get you boys anything else,” she said before tending to the table behind Blaine.

Once their food arrived, they grew silent for a long while. Kurt was the first to speak, asking Blaine about school and what kind of things he was into. Kurt already knew most of the answers- being Blaine’s Guardian meant there was little to nothing Kurt didn’t know about the boy- but he asked anyway. Blaine went into detail about his being on the swim team and commented on seeing Kurt at their meets; Blaine asked if Kurt only went to see him in a Speedo, to which Kurt admitted to being guilty.

It seemed like only five minutes had passed when their waitress came back with the check. Kurt reached forward to take the bill book, but Blaine snatched it before he could. “Oh, no,” Blaine said, shaking his head at Kurt with a smile. “I asked you out.”

“Blaine,” Kurt began to protest, taking his wallet out.

“No, Kurt. This is recompense, remember? You’ve saved my life more times than I’d like to admit and this is me attempting to repay you.” Kurt sighed. Blaine was going to be stubborn about this, he could tell. “And I’m going to keep taking you out on dates until my debt has been repaid. What would you say, five-hundred dates? Would that be the equivalent?”

“Blaine, you don’t have to take me out on five-hundred dates. You bought me dinner. We’re even.” Besides, I was just doing my job. Blaine’s smile faltered a little, but he quickly fixed it, making Kurt wonder if he’d imagined it. Blaine reached and grabbed his jacket from beside him on the bench and cleared his throat.

“I guess I’ll see you tomorrow, then? Around school?” Blaine scooted out of the booth and stood up before Kurt even knew what was happening. What had happened? Why was Blaine acting weird all of the sudden? That’s when Kurt realized what he’d said.

“Blaine, no,” Kurt said quickly and grabbed the boy’s hand before he could move away from the table. Blaine froze and turned around slowly before sighing softly.

“Kurt, it’s okay, I get it.”

“No, you don’t. You really, really don’t. I just meant that you don’t have to repay me for anything. We’re even. I didn’t mean that I didn’t want to go out with you again.” Kurt felt a blush creep onto his cheeks for the millionth time in the past hour and a half. “I’d actually really like a second date.” Blaine’s eyes grew a little wider and Kurt smiled at him. “Don’t act surprised. That radio face of yours has grown on me.” Blaine let out a soft chuckle and looked down at Kurt’s hand that was still around his. Kurt looked like he was about to pull his away, but Blaine held on tighter.

“Can I walk you to your car?” he asked and Kurt grabbed his coat and stood beside Blaine.

“I’d like that.”
