Kurt and Blaine had been dating for a month, one happy, long month… Blaine was taking Kurt out for their one month anniversary dinner at Breadstix, Kurt was really excited
“You look beautiful” said Blaine as Kurt descended the staircase a look of complete adoration on his face, his bright amber eyes glistening.
“Thank you Blaine,” said Kurt, he felt his cheeks burning. “So what’s the plan for the evening?”
“Well” said Blaine taking Kurt's left hand and planting a kiss on it “I thought we’d go out to dinner then a nice moonlit walk… what you say?”
“Sounds divine… I know you said we weren’t doing presents” said Kurt quietly, picking up a small bag that was set down next to the telephone “But here, I saw it and couldn’t resist”
Kurt had seen this and a shop and it reminded him of Blaine, he watched as Blaine began to pull out the neatly folded tissue paper to reveal a small soft toy dog. Blaine looked at Kurt quizzically.
“Well, I thought it was adorable, it’s called Margret Thatcher Dog… I also, erm consider you my little puppy, like the way you get when you are excited, and your big honey eyes…and I ju-”
Kurt got cut off as Blaine's lips found his.
“Kurt, it’s lovely… Thank you and don’t worry I kinda went back on my word too”
“Now before you boys run off” came Burt’s voice from down the corridor “I want to know what is happening on this anniversary date…”
“No need to worry Mr Hummel, we are just going out to dinner and then for a walk, your son will be home by midnight, and he will be sleeping alone”
“Good, okay see you boys later have fun” said Burt.
“Thank you Mr Hummel” said Blaine, bowing his head slightly.
“I’ll see you later dad” said Kurt throwing his arms around Burt in a quick embrace.
They left Kurt’s house and walked to Blaine’s car
“Here’s your present Kurt” said Blaine handing Kurt a neatly wrapped package “I just saw it and immediately thought of you, I just had to get it for you”
Kurt began to open the small package as Blaine pulled out of the driveway. It was very neatly wrapped; Kurt didn’t want to tear the pretty paper.
“Blaine,” Kurt breathed as he stared at the small ornate broach, it was too much… Kurt knew that this must have been expensive “It’s beautiful, but it’s too much… you didn’t have to get this…”
“Don’t you like it?” asked Blaine sounding slightly worried.
“No, no I love it, I was looking at it with Rachel on Sunday, but Blaine its really expensive, I feel bad now, your present wasn’t nearly as amazing.”
“Shush!” said Blaine.“I bought it for you because I love you and it matches your eyes, and they we’re the first thing I noticed about you” Blaine sure knew how to make Kurt’s heart melt like butter.“I love your present because it’s from my loving amazing boyfriend, and its adorable okay, and don’t worry about the cost, it’s just a broach that I saw and I thought you’d like it okay”
“Okay” Kurt smiled “thank you Blaine, it really is beautiful” he said as he fixed it to his waist coat.
They had just pulled up outside Breadstix; Blaine took the keys out of the ignition, picked up Margret Thatcher Dog and walked round to open the door for Kurt to climb out.
“Good evening gentlemen,” said the tall lean boy stood at the door “My name is Sebastian and I’ll be your server this evening… oh hello Blaine”
“Evening Sebastian,” a hint of coldness in his voice, Kurt was confused… he assumed the boy just attended Dalton. “We have a reservation under Anderson”
“Err yeah right this way” said Sebastian, sounding slightly uncomfortable, Kurt sensed there was something else there, behind the fake smiles on the two boys faces.
“What was all that about honey” asked Kurt after Sebastian had taken their drinks orders and all but fled the table “You tensed when you saw him?”
“Err… well Sebastian is my ex, erm yeah let’s just enjoy our dinner… We’ll talk on the walk after, you know, where he can’t hear?”
“Sure sweetie” said Kurt smiling sweetly at Blaine, Kurt knew that this could be hard, and he wanted Blaine to know that he’d never pressure him in to telling him anything ever, just like Blaine had done for him of these past few years. “I understand, but you know you don’t have to tell me now, I’ll wait until you’re ready to tell me okay?”
“Thank you Kurt, I am ready, I’d just prefer it if he’d not be there…”
Sebastian returned with the drinks, and took their dinner order. The rest of the date was pleasant, except when Sebastian was there, but it was obvious that he was trying to spend as little time at the table as possible. What he’d done to Blaine must have been terrible; Kurt could see it in the way that Blaine looked slightly sad, despite his efforts to smile sadness still flickered behind his amber eyes.
