Nine months earlier
It was a cold Monday evening, Blaine was walking home. He'd been working late... It had been three months since he and Kurt got divorced. He hadn't heard a thing from Kurt in weeks, he'd had to move from their house near central park, there were too many memories, too much pain in that house. He moved to Williamsburg, the rent was cheap and he lived closer to work. As he rounded a corner he was met by two of his neighbours.
"Well, well, well, Jackson look what we have here?" said one of Blaine's neighbours, he was carrying a baseball bat.
"well, Eli, if it isn't the little fairy who lives next door?" said Jackson.
"please, just let me get home!"
"oh, you just want to go home?" said Jackson mockingly, Eli snickered behind him, they circled Blaine as he walked towards his flat.
Blaine ignored them and tried to continue walking but Jackson stood in front of him and pushed him to the ground. He landed on his ass head hitting the ground with some force.
"You're not going anywhere lady-boy"
Eli and Jackson stood over Blaine, his head hurt, he'd hit it when he fell. His vision was blurred slightly, suddenly he felt a swift hard kick to his stomach causing him to curl over on himself, he heard Eli and Jackson laugh loudly. His head seared with pain as there was a hard blow to his head; he assumed it was from Eli's bat. Blaine bit his lip so hard he began to draw blood, he did his best to hide the pain he felt, he didn't want to give them the satisfaction. He'd get up and fight back but he started to feel dizzy and tired. Jackson kicked Blaine a couple more times in the abdomen and then the pulled him to his feet and threw him to the wall.
"Get up and fight you fag!" Said Eli, laughing as Blaine flew against the wall of the alleyway.
Blaine felt a cool stream running down the back of his neck; it soaked his shirt and matted his hair. A fist flew at his face and he felt face down to the floor with the blow. Luckily for blaine, as usual at nine fifteen pm in Williamsburg a cop cars alarm blared as it roared past the end of the alley. Eli and Jackson ran, as the police drove past they didn't see blaine slumped on the floor between to trash cans.
He moved carefully, his whole body searing with pain. He pulled out his phone and dialled Kelsey's number. His hand shaking... She answered.
"Hey Kels! Is needs youse"
"Hey Blaine, what's up?" she said, she giggled slightly, Blaine heard her in hushed tones say 'Darren Stop, I'm on the phone'
"Dis a bad, tyme?" he slurred, starting to feel tired "Is maysbes sleep sor a bit den calls you back."
"Blaine!" she said suddenly... "Blaine? What's happened?"
"Is seepy...bery seepy"
"Blaine, Peanut what happened" she said again getting worried
"Is bes okay... I need seep"
"Blaine? Where are you? You are scaring me Bee."
"Is in alley two blocks srom ours apartments" said Blaine "Is bery tierds now...luhs you Kels"
He hung up, and he slumped forward, falling unconscious. Meanwhile back at their apartment Kelsey stood up suddenly and started to pace the apartment.
"I should go find him... he didn't sound right... he wasn't talking properly... what if he's... " she couldn't even finish that sentence.
"Honey," said Darren. "I'm sure he hasn't... he'd been coping well remember..."
"yeah... but what if he was faking for us... to stop us worrying. Kurt meant everything to him... Kurt saved his life..."
"Kelsey" said Darren, kindly but firmly, walking towards her. "I don't think he would okay... but I do think we should go find him"
He kissed her softly.
"Yeah, okay... he said he was two blocks away."
"Come on lets go find him"
Darren nodded they put on their coats and went out in search of Blaine. They hadn't been out long when they found him, in the alley, battered bruised and unconscious. Darren dialled 911, while Kelsey tried to get Blaine to wake up.
"Bee, Bee wake up? Its Kels, come on peanut... please for me" she said shaking Blaine softly, he remained lifeless.
The ambulance arrived and the paramedics got him in to the back, they let Kelsey ride along with him Darren walked back to the apartment and went in his car. During the ambulance ride they checked Blaine over, and asked Kelsey a bunch of questions she didn't know the answers to, but she knew one thing Blaine had definitely been attacked.
They rushed Blaine in to surgery when they arrived and Kelsey was taken to a small room where she had to fill out some basic paperwork, insurance papers, etcetera and then the waiting began, Darren was in the waiting room when she came out and they embraced. It was 4 hours before Blaine was out of surgery and stable enough for them to let Kelsey and Darren in to see him. He was hooked up to several machines, a ventilator, a heart monitor, there was a tube, coming from his arm and into one machine, the tube appeared to be carrying blood. He looked so small and helpless. he had his head bandaged up and his right arm was in a cast.
"Blaine," she said softly to the small sterile room, it was silent save for the steady beep of the heart monitor and the sound of the ventilator aerating his lungs. "It's Kelsey."
She walked over to his bedside Darren following her, she took Blaine's hand.
"What happened Bee.?" she asked, knowing no reply would come.
They settled on the couch, Darren holding Kelsey close, trying to stay strong. Though he was just as scared as she was, Blaine was such a good friend to the pair of them. At around four in the morning a doctor came in to talk to them, ask them some questions about how Blaine came to be in this state, and tell them that Blaine should wake up in a few days and there was no permanent damage.

Kelsey and Darren spent the next two days in hospital waiting for Blaine to wake up, They talked to him, and turned away unwanted guests such as Sebastian Smythe. It was late Thursday night when Blaine woke up. Darren had gone to get him and Kelsey a cup of coffee. Blaine groaned in pain softly.
"Where'm I?" he moaned around the ventilator tube.
Kelsey got up and walked over to him.
"Hey Bee." she said softly
"Kels" he breathed, his eyes still close "Where'm I?
"You're at the hospital Bee."
"Why I here?" he said, his voice still muffled.
"We were hoping you could shed some light on that peanut"
"Hey, Baby they we're out of Mocha's" said Darren as he re-entered the room.
Blaine's face contorted slightly at the sound of a male voice, but relaxed when he recognised it.
"Blaine, bro you're awake" he said.
"D." said Kelsey "go get Dr. Rosenstien"
Darren left and returned with the doctor. She removed Blaine's ventilator, checked his vitals and left to leave them to talk.
"Bee, what happened?" asked Kelsey.
Blaine shook his head.
"No, no, no" he said. "Please?"
"Okay," she said softly smiling at him. "I won't make you tell me,"
Blaine nodded.
"Thank you" he said softly, and he slowly examined himself and the injuries he'd sustained.

They kept him two weeks more in hospital, his head healed. On the Saturday of the first week he confided to a doctor what happened after persistent nightmare reccuances and he started seeing a therapist. when he left hospital he had a few visitors to his flat, Coop, his parents, Nick and Jeff. After about two months and eighteen therapy sessions he told Kelsey what had happened. He tried attending work but the commute was too stressful and invoked flash backs so he quit his job at the New York Journal and started working as a musician at Bar4.
Nine months after the assault he saw Kurt again, Kurt was happy and dating a new man... Ryan. Blaine was heartbroken... but he knew Kurt deserved happiness... all the happiness in the world after what Blaine did to him.
Blaine went on living his life without Kurt, taking it day by day, dealing with what happened to him, until one day he ran into Kurt again...
