1 NEW MESSAGE FROM: BEE.
You. Need. To. Call. Me. NOW.
Kurt was lying in bed, a pillow clutched to his chest, letting out deep, shaky sobs. He knew he shouldn't have let Blaine kiss him, or kissed him back, or called him hot (what the hell was that?), partly because Blaine had a girlfriend, but mainly because Kurt wasn't gay. Sure, he liked Project Runway and Broadway musicals and sometimes wanted to kiss Blaine Anderson until he passed out, but he wasn't gay.
1 NEW MESSAGE FROM: BEE.
Seriously!
Kurt let another sob rack his entire body. He pressed the heels of his palms to his eyes to try to stop the tears, but it was no use. And it didn't help that every time he tried to blink the tears away, he saw Blaine's messy curls, bright smile and big, childish hazel eyes.
1 NEW MESSAGE FROM: BEE.
Kuuuuuuuuuuuurt. CALL! ME!
Kurt swallowed. More acurately, he gulped, gulped down air as he triend to wash away thoughts of Blaine and his smile and his lips and tongue and his strong hands pinning Kurt against the lockers, everything else completely forgotten. He tried instead to think of girls and school and summer and the Glee assembly, but all his mind could process was Blaine.
1 NEW MESSAGE FROM: BEE.
Kurt Hummel. You're starting to worry me. If you don't call me soon, I'll have to walk over there and strangle some words out of you.
Kurt sat up slowly and dabbed at his eyes with his cool grey down comforter. He blew his nose, picked up his iPhone and hastily dialed the number he knew by heart. When Chloe answered on the third ring, all Kurt said was "Hi."
Chloe's heart sank when she could nearly hear the frown in her friend's voice, his despair more than palpable. "Hey."
"Well, he kissed me," he laughed bitterly.
"Why's that a problem? You said - "
"I know what I said. But then I got to thinking about it, and I'm the one who's going to be left to pick up the mess. Blaine doesn't care if I'm in love with him. He cares about Quinn and wooing girls with his stupid sexy guitar." They sat in silence for a moment. "Why'd he do it?" Kurt asked timidly.
"He's obviously confused, Kurt. You both are."
"Well isn't that the understatement of the century," Kurt quipped.
"But he wanted to kiss you. So he did."
Kurt inhaled a breath sharply through his mouth. "And that's bad."
"No, no!" Chloe reassured him.
"Is it bad that...that I wanted him to kiss me?"
Chloe stilled, letting her eyes drift shut as she tried to prepare a monolouge. "Kurt," was all she managed.
"Yes?"
"Kurt, if you guys want to be together, what's going to stop you?"
Kurt thought for a moment. "Quinn."
"I can't believe you guys convinced me to do this." Rachel pulled at her mid-length, curled, red-fade-to-black Nicki Minaj wig, toeing the linoleum floor with a patent leather combat boot.
"Come on, you look great!" Kurt reassured her. "Although will.i.am is not a costume I see myself reusing."
Chloe finished applying eyeliner to Tina's lower lids and adjusted her own wig, which was long and wavy and streaked with baby pink. "This school hates Glee club because they know you guys for being tacky and wearing sequins and singing show tunes. If we give them something they understand, they'll love us." She pulled at the rubber of her skintight Minaj-esque bodysuit. "Although I could certainly go without the chunky belts and Spandex."
"I don't have to wear Spandex," Blaine bragged, sticking out his (perfect little pink) tongue. Kurt's mouth fell open, and he turned his gaze away from Blaine.
"Yeah, no Spandex, just a metal shirt," Winter laughed, and the boys scowled at her.
"You look like a straight-up Martain," Artie snorted, and Winter flipped her blonde-to-green-to-purple wig over her shoulder indignantly before crossing her arms over her chest.
"We all look amazing," Tina said, twirling a strand of aquamarine hair between her two inch long hot pink fingernails. "But we need to get out there! The school's waiting!"
The stage lights tickled Rachel's skin. She was born to perform, she knew it. So even when the children stared skeptically at her bouncy wig, short white dress (which was made of some sort of stretchy leather) and thigh-high black combat boots, she kept a smile on her face.
Ooh, ooh,
Ooh, ooh,
Ooh, ooh,
Ooh, ooh,
Stepped up in the party like my name was that chick,
All these haters mad because I'm so established,
You know I'm a beast, yeah I'm a fab, fab chick,
Haters you can kill yourselves!
Rachel blushed. Had she really just sung that? Chloe moved in next to her to harmonize with her.
In my space shuttle and I'm not coming down,
I'm a stereo and she's just so monotone,
Sometimes it's just me and all my bottles all alone,
I ain't coming back this time!
Their routine was really complicated, but luckily Chloe onlt tripped twice, which was probably a new record.
By the end of their song (after a few rap verses from Artie), the audience was in love with the club, they stood up for an extended standing ovation and when the Glee club walked off behind the curtains, the crowd chanted, "GLEE CLUB! GLEE CLUB! GLEE CLUB!
Rachel felt as if she were walking on air. For once, people realized her true awesomness.
"When did the kid in the wheelchair become a rapper?"
"The girls in that club can sing!"
"I wonder who coordinated those awesome outfits..."
The assembly had gone insanely well, and the whispers were enough to make the whole Glee club's last day perfect. Well, almost the whole Glee club. But there was one member who only had this last day of the year to make things right.
"Quinn?"
Quinn closed her locker door and found Blaine, his eyes downcast.
"Hey," she smiled.
"Hi." Blaine shuffled his feet.
"Are you okay?"
"No."
"What's wrong, sweetie?" Quinn asked, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I...I think I'm...I want to break up."
Quinn gasped, pulling her hand away quickly, as if she'd been burned. "You what!?"
"I just...I want to see other people."
"Over the summer. Okay, I get it! You need a Nicholas Sparks summer romance, right!?"
"I don't even know who that is."
"He's an author. But it doesn't matter, Blaine! Why are you breaking up with me!?"
"I just told you, Quinn - "
"Yeah, I get it. You want to 'see other people', whatever the hell that means. I just don't think you're making the right decision."
"Wait, you think you can decide when I break up with you?"
Quinn sighed. "I just want what's best for you, Blaine."
"Well, you're not good for me." Blaine turned and walked down the hallway, towards his homeroom. "Kurt's what's best for me."
Mr. Hotailing's class, to the auditorium for the last day assembly!
The voice on the loudspeaker sent Kurt and Blaine's homeroom flying out of the door. Kurt made sure to hurry ahead of Blaine. He didn't really want to be alone with him right now, which was sad. They were still best friends. Right? Then again, what if they weren't? What if the tension drove them apart? Was their tension? Kurt was ushered into a row of red movie theater seats, and sat in the one that was set against the wall so he could rest his aching head on the cool, flat, grey surface. Somehow Blaine ended up next to him, eyeing him intently.
"Hey," Kurt whispered, in an attempt to get Blaine to stop staring at him.
"I broke up with Quinn." Kurt coughed uncomfortably. Why did they have to have this conversation right here, right now, in front of everyone? "I want to be with you, Kurt," Blaine clarified, and even though his knees were jelly and his heart and stomach were being beaten to death by butterflies, Kurt didn't reply. "I want to hold your hand, and fall asleep with you on my chest, and kiss you in the rain."
"I'm not gay, Blaine." Kurt said, feeling tears threaten the back of his eyes.
"Okay," Blaine said. "Alright. Well, that doesn't change the fact that I love you, Kurt, and I'll just keep trying until you love me back. Even if that means losing my best friend. I just...god. I want to be with you. So much that I'm willing to wait. Forever."
Blaine took Kurt's hand in his, and Kurt didn't have the willpower to pull away. Instead he just let his hand lie there limply as Blaine squeezed it, unaware of the tears spilling down Kurt's cheeks.
