Kurt was having a moment. He was lying on his bed feeling how his insides were sort of bubbling with excitement and dare he say it, happiness. He had never felt this way before for this particular reason. He was going on a date, with a boy, a cute, sexy, kind boy. This day had started out so bad and now he wanted to dance around his dorm room and sing 'I feel pretty' or 'I could have danced all night' or something equally cheesy.
That morning he had dreaded trying to approach Blaine after their kiss, but then he had seen him hand in hand with Trent and he had been overcome with jealousy. It had taken hold of him and he had felt so angry and incredibly hurt. He wanted Blaine, had kissed him and suddenly he was with somebody else? Had he been dating Trent yesterday when he had kissed Kurt back?
So of course he had blown up on Blaine, again.
He was in awe of Blaine though. How could someone be so nice and forgiving after being on the receiving end of Kurt's outbursts several times? He had to be some kind of saint, an incredibly hot saint to be precise. Even when angry or jealous Kurt couldn't help but be turned on by Blaine. Those shorts he wore today, they were nothing special in themselves, but the way they hung low on Blaine's hips, leaving a strip of bare skin between the waistband and his t-shirt, Kurt just wanted to touch. Was it bad that he just wanted to rip the other boy's clothes off and press him up against the wall and just maul him with his mouth? Kurt adjusted himself a bit. No, he decided, it was just a completely normal reaction of an eighteen year old gay male, especially one that hadn't had any sexual contact with another boy since last summer. Not that there had been a lot of contact, he had been much more innocent back then. However, after meeting Scott last year and having his first summer fling/ boyfriend he had started to feel a lot more secure about the whole sex thing and had been looking forward to college in New York for more than one reason.
He wondered about that, because what if he fell in love with Blaine, what then? He didn't know where the other boy was going to college, but it was a long shot that he would be in New York too. They had so little time left of the summer. Kurt shook his head. No, he was not going to create fictive problems; they hadn't even gone on a date yet. Speaking of date, he had to think of something they could do that was on campus.
He opened the door to the auditorium to rehearse with Blaine again later that day and he felt a jolt of déjà vu when he saw the dark haired boy sitting by the piano, not playing like he had yesterday, more pressing random keys. He looked like he was lost in thought.
"Are you ready to try and rehearse today?" Kurt asked in what he hoped was a non-confrontational tone, and Blaine got up from the stool with a little smile. Kurt observed as he sort of steeled himself and put the violin under his chin after they tuned up.
"Don't you need any sheet music?" Kurt asked, seeing that the other boy didn't have a stand in front of him.
"No, I know this piece so well if you gave me blank sheet music I could probably write it out for you."
It wasn't a cocky statement, Blaine sounded more subdued than anything else. Kurt wondered about him and all those little hints he let slip from time to time that just produced even more questions in Kurt's mind.
The piece was hard work for Kurt. He had gone through it by himself several times yesterday, but he was still fumbling in a few places. After going through the whole thing a few times, frequently stopping to fix mistakes or misunderstandings the boys decided to take a break. They ended up sitting side by side on the edge of the stage Kurt fiddling with his water bottle, Blaine finishing his juice box.
"Have you been playing long?" Kurt asked. Blaine had said he knew the piece and he wasn't kidding he knew exactly where he was at all times and could give Kurt directions even without a score.
"I think I started having lessons when I was four. I started learning by the Suzuki method, and then it turned out that I had talent, so my parents moved us all up to Boston so that I could study with a good teacher there. I'm sort of self taught on the piano... and the guitar." Blaine was studying the juice box like it was some incredibly interesting artefact.
"So when you say you know the piece?" Kurt let it hang there, hoping for more information.
"Uhm, I played it in concert the first time when I was nine and I've played it many times since."
Kurt studied Blaine, his hair wasn't long enough to hide his face but he was ducking his head so that all Kurt could see was the black curls and his ear which was kind of red... "Are you blushing?" Kurt reached out and took hold of Blaine's chin, turning his head up towards him. The boy was indeed blushing.
"It's just kind of embarrassing to explain when I meet new people that I used to be paraded around like some show dog when I was little. Also, most people make assumptions about me and think I am some stuck up little brat, but I'm really not. I only played to please my parents."
Blaine wasn't blushing anymore; instead he looked kind of angry. However, just like before the more Kurt learned about this boy the more questions he had.
"So if you are used to being the centre of attention then why all the fuss about a measly little solo?"
"It's kind of a long story," Blaine said, "you know how people can have breakdowns because they work too hard?" Kurt nodded.
"Well, I had my breakdown when I was twelve, and I ended up in hospital for a few days. I haven't played my violin in concert since then."
"Oh!" was all Kurt could say, he hadn't expected to hear something like that. To push a child so hard that they got ill, he couldn't imagine how any mother or father could do something like that. His own father was supportive, but he never ever pushed Kurt into doing something he didn't want himself.
"So, Julliard..." Blaine said, jostling Kurt out of his thoughts.
"Yeah, I can't wait. It has been my goal for a long time. I can't wait to get out of Ohio and go to New York. What about you?"
"Huh?" Blaine put his juice box down and frowned.
"Where are you going to college?"
"Oh, I'm not," Blaine laughed.
"You're not going to college?" Kurt was confused, and though he thought getting an education was important he also knew that people chose to forgo college for many reasons.
"Kurt, I'm only sixteen, I have to finish high school first." Blaine smiled.
"Six.. you're sixteen! Oh my God I'm cradle robbing," Kurt was up and pacing the stage.
"Well, I turn seventeen in the beginning of September if that is any conciliation." Blaine had got to his feet as well.
"So you're a junior?"
"Yes, I'm a junior. Kurt will you stop pacing and calm down. If it bothers you that much that I am younger than you then maybe this isn't such a good idea."
Kurt froze when he heard that. He was overreacting again and now Blaine was having second thoughts. He had to do something to show him how much he did care about him. Before he knew it Kurt had gathered the younger boy in his arms and was kissing him fiercely. They melted into each other and Kurt could feel Blaine's curls tickling his face and the heat of his body pushing against Kurt's. He didn't want to stop, but after a while he needed air, and there was also the rather pressing problem of his growing hard on.
Still holding on to each other, the boys were breathing heavily.
"It seems like kissing on stage is our thing," Blaine murmured making Kurt chuckle.
"Just, please don't run away this time," he said tightening his hold on Kurt.
"Not a chance," Kurt said, and leaned in to plant another kiss on Blaine's lips.
