School the next day is… weird. He doesn’t tell Mercedes about his weekend, he only sees Blaine on a distance and, after watching him drive off on his motorbike through a window on the second floor, Glee Club isn’t as fun as it usually is. The song they are rehearsing reminds him of Blaine and even though Mr Shue actually offers him a solo for once, he declines and gives it to Tina.

“There’s something wrong with you.”, Brittany says when they are packing up to leave and Kurt looks up in surprise, because Brittany isn’t normally the one who sees things like that.

“Nothing’s wrong, Brit.”, he reassures her, but she won’t let it go.

“You look sad, Kurt. And I don’t like it.”

Kurt smiles then, because how can you not smile when someone like Brittany says something like that? Luckily he doesn’t have to answer, because Santana appears out of nowhere, holds out her pinky and Brittany grabs it. Kurt watches them as they rush out through the door together, bags thrown over their shoulders and cheerio skirts dancing around their hips.

“I’m up for a milkshake.”, Mercedes says and Kurt jumps, hasn’t realized she has come up beside him.

“That sounds perfect.”, he answers with a smile.

The date with Mercedes really cheers him up and when he drops his bag on the floor inside the door the heavy sorrow Blaine’s story has left in him feels a little... not lighter, but more manageable to bear. But when the night comes a new feeling starts to creep up, and it is not until he is half asleep that he realizes what it is. He misses someone next to him in his bed. Someone who presses his body so tight against his own that he can feel both of their heartbeats, someone’s breath close against his ear as their chests rise and fall in perfect sync.
