Kurt makes Blaine breakfast the next morning and the other boy watches him roam around in the kitchen from a chair by the table without saying a word. The silence between them doesn’t feel wrong though, it feels shared and filled with that calmness you only achieve when you feel like you can fully trust someone. And Kurt knows that it shouldn’t feel like that, not yet, not with a person he barely knows, but it does. And Kurt is a bit nervous. Blaine’s eyes on him makes his body tingle and he loses count on how many scoops of flour he has put in the batter to the pancakes and forgets the frozen berries in the microwave, even though he in the end manages to get everything ready. When he finally sits down Blaine opens his mouth.

“I’ve never met anyone like you before, Hummel.”

And Kurt doesn’t know if it is a compliment, but he smiles and lowers his gaze.

When Burt and Carole return that afternoon, and Finn stumbles in half an hour later, Blaine is already gone. He tells Kurt it is okay – he will sleep at home even though the bruise is still there, maybe they won’t even notice - and leaves. Kurt has just tucked away the mattress when the door opens and his father and stepmother walks in.
