“I’ll be right down.”, he whispers, and Kurt is gone from the window and down the stairs before Blaine can answer.
His face looks even worse today than it did yesterday; his cheek swollen and the edges of the bruise turning yellow.
“Didn’t see you at school today.”, Kurt says and he tries, he really does, to sound nonchalant.
“Couldn’t go like this.”, Blaine says with a half-crocked smile and gestures to his face. “Think I would’ve scared people to death seeing as they shit themselves by the mere reason I walk down the corridor on a sunny day.”
There is no self-pity in his voice then, he just sounds tired.
The mattress is still there in Kurt’s room and when Blaine follows him up the stairs he asks if they are alone.
“The entire weekend.”, Kurt says without looking back. And as Blaine passes him on his way to the mattress Kurt can feel the light touch of his hand on the small of his back. The hair on his arms rises, but Blaine doesn’t say anything else and Kurt can soon hear his breaths slow down, telling him that the other boy has fallen asleep on the floor.
But Kurt can’t sleep. His heart pounds hard in his chest and it won’t calm down, no matter how many breathing exercises he goes trough. So it all ends with him simply walking out of the room and in to Finn’s, and he falls asleep within minutes.
