When Blaine is not at the lesson after the incident, one of few classes they share, Kurt excuses himself and leaves. As he passes the school entrance he can see a police car pulled up outside and quickens his steps, and when he reaches the glass door he opens it without knocking. Both polices in the sofa fall silent and lift their heads as he enters the room.

“I’m sorry, but you have to wait.”, one of them says, a woman.

“No, I’m not-“ He stops. “You’re here about Blaine Anderson, right?”

The woman hesitates for a moment, then nods.

“I just wanted to say that… I was going to tell you that…” But what was he supposed to say? What was he even doing there, defending a criminal? Blaine probably should be sent back to Dalton anyway, if so only if half of the things the rumors said were true. But not for this, it was not fair.

“Blaine’s not the one to blame.”, he therefore continues. “Karofsky, David Karofsky, picked on him. And I think it might’ve been my fault Blaine hit him, because I tried to step in and-“

“We appreciate you telling us this…”

“Kurt Hummel.”

“Right, Kurt. But you have to understand that because of Blaine’s criminal records we can’t just ignore-“

“I understand, but he-“

“Mr Hummel! Thank you, but-“

The door to the inner room, the principal’s office, opens and Blaine steps out, hands in cuffs behind his back and followed by the broad-shouldered man in the grey suit. Blaine stops dead when he sees Kurt, surprise and confusion on his face.

“And you are?”, the man behind Blaine asks with a tired voice. But it is the policewoman who answers before Kurt gets the chance:

“Kurt Hummel. He had a few things to say about the incident.”

“That’s right?” The man sighs. “Well, let’s hear it then, Mr Hummel.”

And Kurt tells them his version, with Blaine standing right there with a face that soon covers up the surprise and confusion and replaces it with a cold wall of nothing.

“I don’t know what Karofsky said to him to begin with, what he said to Blaine, but I know that guy. He’s been picking on me and others for years. And if I was a better fighter, if I knew how, I would’ve hit him a long time ago.”

The silence that falls after he has finished is at length broken by the suited man: “Thank you, Mr Hummel. We will take your words into consideration.”

And then they leave and Kurt is left behind and even though he doesn’t let Blaine go with his eyes before he disappears down the corridor, the other boy doesn’t turn around.
