“You said you’d never give up on me.” Kurt greeted Blaine the next morning.
“I know.”
“And then you did.”
“I know that too.”
“I don’t understand why.”
“Kurt there’s only so many times a person can handle being rejected.”
“So you decided to reject me to show me what it feels like?”
“I’m not rejecting you Kurt, I would never reject you.”
“Then what is this? Are you just playing some sort of game?”
“No Kurt, no games, I just need to not be the only one in this relationship. I need to know that you want me as much as I want you. Because right now it doesn’t feel that way, it feels like I’m some unwanted pest.”
“You aren’t.”
“Then prove it to me Kurt.”
“Why can’t we just wait until New York?” Kurt asked
“Why should we have to?” Blaine countered.
“I’m scared.”
“I can protect you….I have been protecting you.”
“What?”
“Nevermind.”
“No Blaine tell me what you mean, how have you been protecting me?”
“I can’t. I have to go I have class.”
“You have a free period right now.”
“I have a project I need to work on.” Blaine said before walking away.
Fortunately for Blaine the project he and Kurt had been working on for English had been handed in before he publically humiliated himself and after teaching Finn the basics of Algebra he didn’t really need to be tutored anymore, although he still called Blaine with the occasional question, all of this meant that Blaine could avoid Kurt for the rest of the day. He cursed himself for slipping up and telling Kurt he had been protecting him, god, what if Kurt figured out his deal with Karofsky? Then it would be null and void and Karofsky would start going after Kurt again. Blaine didn’t want to avoid Kurt, he wanted to see him as much as possible partly because he was in love with him but also partly because he hoped Kurt would do something romantic for him and they could be together again. The avoiding Kurt plan kinda went to hell after school when they had glee club, Blaine would’ve skipped but they had to practice for Sectionals and Blaine was hoping the more he practiced the less nervous he would be when it came time to perform and maybe just maybe he wouldn’t have a panic attack and blow it for everyone. He noticed Kurt kept shooting him looks throughout the entire rehearsal but Blaine did his best to ignore him.
“So you’re just going to ignore me now?” Kurt asked. The entire glee club turned and looked at Blaine.
“I….I don’t know, maybe?” Blaine replied.
“What did you mean this morning?”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“How have you been protecting me Blaine?”
“Just drop it Kurt please.” Blaine said his voice pleading as he looked at Kurt.
“I think I have a right to know.”
“It’s better if you don’t.”
The two boys looked at each other, studying each other’s faces.
“Fine.” Kurt huffed.
“Thank you.”
After that Mr. Schue decided that was enough rehearsal for one day and sent everyone home. When Blaine pulled into his driveway he noticed a strange rental car in the driveway. Assuming his dad’s car had broken down or something he shrugged it off and went into the house.
“Hey Squirt!” Cooper greeted him coming out of the kitchen.
“Oh my god! Coop!” Blaine cried excitedly before pouncing on his older brother.
