When Blaine got home that day he was surprised to see that his dad had gotten him a new phone.
“So how are things with you and Kurt? That’s his name right?” Blaine’s dad asked him.
“Yeah that’s his name. We broke up.”
“Oh, well some relationships just aren’t meant to be.”
“But that’s the thing this one is meant to be I’m sure of it.”
“He doesn’t feel the same way?”
“I think he does, he said we could be together when we’re in New York.”
“Then why did you too break up?”
Blaine shrugged knowing that if he told his dad it would break his promise to Karofsky and Kurt would no longer be safe.
“You don’t know or you aren’t going to tell me?” the elder Anderson asked.
Blaine shrugged again, avoiding his father’s gaze.
“Here’s the way I see it. If two people want to be together they should be. If you care about this boy as much as I think you do then win him back.”
“Thanks dad.”
Blaine went up to his room and tried to figure out how to win someone back. He went to his closet and put all his old clothes in a bag to donate to charity leaving only the ones Kurt had bought him. He figured the first step would be to look good for Kurt, maybe if he showed up at school looking like Kurt’s Blaine again then Kurt would come back to him. The next morning Blaine got dressed in an outfit that he had noticed got Kurt a little flustered when they bought it.
“Ok, so I’ll get him back today and yesterday will just have been a tiny little blimp, not even a footnote in our relationship.” Blaine told himself in the mirror.
After some begging and pleading his parents decided that he could in fact drive himself to school even though it hadn’t been a week since his panic attack, he promised that if he felt one coming on he’d pull over and call one of them immediately. This freedom allowed him to stop by the Lima Bean before school and still get their early enough to be waiting outside of Kurt’s locker with a Grande non-fat Mocha when Kurt got there. He noticed the brief look of joy on Kurt’s face which was quickly replaced by one of confusion and concern.
“Good morning beautiful.” Blaine greeted Kurt.
“Blaine! Are you crazy? What are you doing?” Kurt gasped.
“I miss you and I want you back.” Blaine said smiling.
“But Karofsky…” Kurt started.
“I don’t care about him.” Blaine replied feeling bad for not telling Kurt about his new deal with Karofsky but knowing if he did Kurt would flip out and not let him go through with it.
“But I do! How would you feel if it was me he was threatening? You would do whatever you could to stop it, wouldn’t you?”
“You know I would.”
“This is the same thing, this is me protecting you in the best way I can.” Kurt said his eyes pleading.
“I don’t need your protection, I need your love.”
“Stop Blaine.”
“No.”
“What?”
“I won’t stop until I get you back Kurt because I know this is something we both want.”
“I told you we can be together in New York.”
“I know but I don’t want to wait that long.” Blaine said, he looked at this watch and then smiled.
“I’ll see you later Kurt.” He leaned in to kiss Kurt’s cheek but Kurt moved and all Blaine got was air.
Blaine got to class early and sat in the usually empty seat next to where Kurt normally sat. He sighed sadly when Kurt took Blaine’s regular seat with the rest of the glee kids joining him; Puck shot Blaine a sympathetic look and a small wave. Blaine waved back. Puck leaned over and said something to Kurt who nodded slightly and then walked over to Blaine.
“There’s not enough room for me over there so I figured I’d sit here instead.” Puck said flopping down in the seat next to Blaine.
Blaine looked over at the empty seat next to Santana and then back to Puck.
“Umm…ok.”
“So what’s the deal between you and Kurt?”
“We broke up but I’m going to win him back.” Blaine said.
“Why’d you break up?”
“It’s really complicated.”
“I’ve got nothing better to do.” Puck shrugged.
Blaine gestured to the front of the class where the teacher was now standing waiting to get the attention of the class.
“Like I said I’ve got nothing better to do.” Puck said.
“Sorry Puck I like to pay attention in class, you should give it a shot.”
As they packed up their belongs at the end of the class Puck turned to Blaine.
“So they just like dumped the tea into the harbour? That’s badass! England must have been pissed.”
“Yes Puck, England was pissed.” Blaine laughed.
“That’s like their national drink or whatever, wow.”
Blaine laughed.
“See I told you that paying attention in class can be interesting.” Blaine told the mohawked boy.
“Is there more badass shit like that in history?”
“Yup.”
“Cool.”
“Try paying attention in your next class too, maybe you’ll end up liking that too.” Blaine said. They boys both laughed and then parted as their classes were in different directions.
His talk with Puck put Blaine a little behind his normal schedule which ended up working in his favour as Kurt was already in his seat and there was an open one next to him. Blaine quickly claimed the seat before anyone else had a chance to.
“Hi Kurt, how’s your day been going?” Blaine asked brightly.
“Hello Blaine. It’s been fine for the most part.”
“For the most part?”
“You not leaving me alone is making it difficult, but other than that it’s been good.”
“Has Karofsky been harassing you at all?”
“Surprisingly he hasn’t said or done anything to me yet today.”
“Good.” Blaine replied.
“I’m worried that he’s planning something big.” Kurt said chewing his lip.
“Maybe he’s decided to leave you alone.”
“I wish.”
“Would you like to do something with me after school? Coffee? A movie? Shopping? Anything?” Blaine asked a bit desperately.
“No, Blaine.”
“I had to ask.”
“And I had to say no.”
“I’m still not going to give up.” Blaine said.
Kurt sighed and turned his back towards Blaine. They didn’t speak for the rest of the class or despite Blaine’s best attempts for the rest of the day. Blaine joined the New Directions in the cafeteria at lunch but Kurt was sandwiched firmly between Rachel and Mercedes so Blaine couldn’t sit next to him, and when Blaine started to feel overwhelmed by being surrounded by some many people Kurt instructed Mike how to calm him down but didn’t address Blaine directly. In glee club after school Blaine sat next to Kurt but Kurt moved to an empty chair and refused to acknowledge Blaine’s existence. By the time he got home Blaine was feeling dejected, he knew he needed Kurt back but he was absolutely lost on how to do that. He was also feeling a bit concerned as he expected Karofsky to dump a slushie over his head or shove him into a locker or something today but that didn’t happen, was Kurt right was Karofsky planning something big? Did he forget their deal and pick on Kurt instead? Did Kurt lie when he said he hadn’t? Blaine shook his head, trying not to think of Karofsky and instead tried to think of how to win Kurt back. Blaine toyed with his phone, they hadn’t spoken in years but if there was one person who would know how to win someone back it would be him.
He picked up after two rings.
“Hello?”
“Hi Cooper.”
