Monday morning once again found Blaine sitting on Kurt's desk sipping coffee, this time Blaine was the one who had bought it and his foot was resting on Kurt's chair next to Kurt's thigh. "Did you know that romantic relationships between employees have to be declared to HR?"
"Is that so?"
"It is."
"Interesting."
"We should go fill the form out don't you think?"
"Is that your way of asking me to be your boyfriend? How utterly romantic." Kurt teased moving his chair slightly away from Blaine but not so far that Blaine's foot fell off the chair.
"Kurt Hummel, will you please be my boyfriend?" Blaine asked using his foot to pull Kurt closer to him and placing his other foot on the other side of Kurt.
"Hmm...I don't know...I'll have to think about it."
"Oh... ok then." Blaine said disappointedly.
"I'm just teasing you, you silly man, of course I'll be your boyfriend." Kurt said before putting his hands on Blaine's knees and pulling himself up to give Blaine a quick kiss, mindful of the fact they were at work and couldn't get too carried away.
"Yay." Blaine said softly against Kurt's lips.
"So how about we go down to HR just before lunch, fill out the form and then go grab something to eat." Kurt asked after they broke apart.
"Sounds perfect."
"Now get off my desk and get to work. No boyfriend of mine is going to be a slacker." Kurt said playfully swatting Blaine's knee.
Blaine smirked and gave Kurt a salute before hoping off his desk and going to his own. Kurt smiled at his boyfriend's (!) antics and then focused on finishing the initial design sketch for prototype 893-2C. Once he decided it was perfect he put the design in an envelope and then put it in his outbox so the production department could take a look at it and start making the actual prototype which would then be tested by Blaine or someone in his department and if it was deemed to be a good toy marketing would then take it, name it and design the packaging before sending it to the factory where it would actually be made, if it wasn't deemed to be a good toy it would come back to Kurt's department and they would fix the design flaws, if they could, starting the whole process over. Sometimes Kurt was able to decided what kind of toy he wanted to design but other times he'd get an email saying something along the lines of we need a new doll, make it so little girls will beg their parents to buy them one! Or see what you can do about making toy guns less gunny. That email caused Kurt to blink at the screen a few times before deciding that someone else in his department could take care of that, everyone knew that he wouldn't design a toy gun and even if he was willing to do so he had no idea how to make one less gunny. He stretched before pulling out a fresh pad of paper and thought about which project to work on next, he closed his eyes while he thought waiting for inspiration to strike only opening them when he heard a soft plop on his desk. He opened his eyes and saw Blaine once again sitting there.
"I thought I told you to get to work."
"You did, I'm here on official business not boyfriend business." He said waving a piece of paper that Kurt recognized as the forms Blaine used to fill out his report.
"How come no one else uses those?" Kurt asked gesturing to the report.
Blaine shrugged. "It's just something I made up for myself so I don't forget any of the important points."
"You do know how helpful that is don't you? You're the only one who addresses every single issue, everyone else forgets at least one thing and then whatever they forgot doesn't get fixed until the second round of testing."
"I'm sure I forget somethings."
Kurt shook his head. "Seriously Blaine this form of yours is brilliant, I really think you should show it to your department head, get everyone using it and god, the company would save so much money."
"You really think so?"
"I do. This is co-worker Kurt talking not boyfriend Kurt."
"Ok, I'll show it to Martin."
"Good. Now tell me how amazing whatever toy you tested was. I assume it was amazing anyway, I did design it after all."
"Have you never gotten to play with one of your own toys?"
Kurt shook his head.
"After lunch you and I are going to spend some time in the testing room."
Blaine gave Kurt the report on the toy and as usual offered suggestions on how to fix it, there wasn't much wrong with it but Blaine felt it broke to easily so they threw around material suggestions until they came up with something they both thought would last longer without making the toy too heavy. After they were finished Blaine got off Kurt's desk and gave Kurt's shoulder a squeeze in parting instead of the kiss he so desperately wanted to give him but decided against unsure if he would be able to stop at just one kiss. Blaine went back to his desk and typed his notes on tests into reports and then emailed them off to the appropriate designer, Kurt being the only one he went to see in person, he just sent off the last one for the day when Kurt came to get him so they could go down to HR. They weren't sure about holding hands at work just yet so instead they walked as close together as possible letting their arms and hands brushed as they walked.
"So how low have you been together?" The woman in HR asked them, what the hell was her name again? Sally? Yeah Blaine was pretty sure she said her name was Sally.
"Since Friday." Kurt answered.
"Friday? As in the Friday we just had?"
Both men nodded.
"Look." She said taking off her glasses. "I appreciate you trying to follow company policy and all but usually couples wait until they are a bit more...established before filing a relationship status form...we like them to make certain they are sure, we don't want you to be back her next week repealing the form."
"We might only be a few days into our relationship, and ok maybe we just officially became boyfriends today but I'm sure about him and I believe he's sure about me." Blaine said pausing to look at Kurt who nodded. "I'm not saying we're getting married anytime soon or anything like that, obviously we aren't there yet but I am saying I plan to be with him for a long time and if it's company policy for us to wait a month or whatever before we file the form then fine we'll come back in a month but if you personally think it's too fast and can't be bothered to do your job by helping us fill out the form then my boyfriend and I will go find someone else who will."
She blinked at Blaine who leaned back in his chair but didn't break eye contact with her.
"Ok then...uh the form is pretty straight forward, you each just fill out your name and employee number, and then we put the nature of your relationship and then the three of us sign and date it and then we put a copy of it in each of your personnel files."
"Easy enough." Kurt said leaning forward and filling out his information and then passing it to Blaine who did the same.
Sally, or whatever her name was, then signed the form and then took it to the photocopier and made copies.
"Would either of you like a copy for your personal records?"
"I would." Kurt said surprising Blaine. "It might be kinda of cool to look at it in a few years, don't you think?" He asked Blaine who smiled and then nodded.
"I'm sorry about earlier, I wasn't doubting your relationship, it's just you have no idea how many people come in here with their new girlfriend or boyfriend only to come back a week later letting us know they broke up, we've even had some come back the next day." Sally explained.
"Well that's not us." Kurt told her.
"Somehow I'm inclined to believe that."
