They probably should've made their date for Saturday to give them time to prepare but honestly neither of them wanted to wait that long so they decided they would go out that night being Friday and all. And who knows maybe if everything went well they could spend all day Saturday and Sunday together...in bed...fucking...No! No Kurt Hummel is not the kind of guy to put out on the first date get it together Blaine, besides that Blaine actually wanted this to turn into a relationship he didn't want to be another fuck and chuck like he was with Sebastian and again with Eli. No, Blaine was pretty sure Kurt wouldn't do that to him, he was pretty sure when he asked him out he actually wanted to date Blaine which means sex can wait. He knew he was a fool when it came to both Sebastian and Eli as they had both made their intentions towards him pretty fucking clear but he was naïve and was convinced they wanted more than just sex after that he promised himself he would not have sex with a guy who wasn't his boyfriend, no matter how charming the guy was. Blaine had actually wanted to ask Kurt out but honestly his previous experiences with men left his self-confidence to be lacking and he just didn't think he was good enough for Kurt. But hopefully Kurt would never figure that out or at least not for a long time.
Blaine had rushed home from work and was frantically searching through his closet for the perfect thing to wear, he didn't want to wear something Kurt had seen on him at work he wanted this to be special but at the same time he didn't know where they were going to go and truth be told he didn't know if Kurt knew since they had only made the date a few hours ago and reservations are impossible to get in New York on short notice but Kurt insisted on making all the arrangements since he was the one who asked Blaine out.
"Blaine?" Cooper asked walking into Blaine's room in time to be hit in the face with a pair of red pants as Blaine frantically threw clothing out of his closet. "Did you lose something?"
"No." Blaine replied tossing out a cardigan which Cooper barely managed to avoid getting hit with.
"So you've just lost your mind then?"
"I have nothing to wear!" Blaine said throwing his hands up and leaving his closet.
Cooper raised an eyebrow as he held up the red pants.
"Obviously I know I own clothing Coop...I just don't have anything good enough."
"Good enough for....?"
"My date with Kurt. I have a date with Kurt."
"You finally manned up and asked him out?"
"Actually he asked me out."
"Nice! So why the freak out?"
"Because I have a date with the man of my dreams who looks like a fucking model and I have nothing to wear!"
"Ok, sit down and breathe."
"I don't have time! The date is tonight!"
"You don't have time to breathe?"
"Either help me or get out of my room Coop."
"Well for starters I think you should wear these red pants."
"Really?"
"Definitely, every time you wear these and we go somewhere people check out your ass like crazy."
"Are you serious?"
Cooper nodded. "I only notice because if they are checking out your ass it means they aren't checking out mine which I find to be unforgivably rude of them."
Blaine blinked. "Ok so red pants....oh! What about the white button up shirt and a black skinny tie!"
Cooper gave Blaine a thumbs up before tossing him the red pants. "I hope you aren't planning on bringing him back here, this place looks like a tornado hit it."
Blaine was just putting the finishing touches on his hair when his phone rang; he smiled seeing it was Kurt calling.
"Hey are you on your way?" He asked answering the phone.
"Actually there has been a small change of plans."
"Are you cancelling on me?" Blaine asked biting his lip.
"No! Not at all...I was just hoping maybe you could meet me at my place? The place we're going to is a lot closer to where I live than where you live."
"Oh, yeah that's fine." Blaine said barely containing his relief.
When he was satisfied with his appearance Blaine grabbed his keys and headed to the subway, he had wanted to stop and buy some flowers or something for Kurt but he accidentally got on the wrong train and ate up all the extra time he had allotted himself meaning he could either show up late with flowers on time empty handed and he was pretty sure Kurt would appreciate punctuality more than the flowers.
When Kurt answered his door Blaine felt like he lost his ability to breathe, Kurt looked gorgeous in tan pants and a yellow shirt around his neck he wore the blue scarf Blaine had given him loosely knotted and then the airplane pin Blaine had complimented earlier was attached to the scarf.
"It looks even better on you then I imagined." Blaine said gently touching the scarf.
"Thank you....for the scarf and the compliment."
"You're welcome for both. Are you ready to go?"
"Do you trust me?"
"Yes."
"Good, I need you to come inside." Kurt said grabbing Blaine's hand.
Blaine followed Kurt inside his loft and then over to the open window and onto the fire escape, he was tempted to ask where they were going but he figured this was all part of trusting Kurt ask they made their way up to the rood.
"So this is probably pretty cheesy but I couldn't get us reservations anywhere and then my roommate Rachel was watching a chick flick and I got inspired." Kurt rambled as they reached the roof, Blaine saw a small table for two set perfectly including candles and flowers.
"I know I know it isn't a restaurant but it doesn't suck too badly does it?" Kurt asked.
Blaine shook his head slowly. "Kurt, it's perfect."
"Yeah?"
Blaine nodded.
"So I cooked, do you like pasta? Normally I would have made something fancier but I kind of ran out of time."
"Pasta sounds great."
Blaine pulled out Kurt's chair for him and then sat down in his own chair while Kurt removed the silver cloches that kept the food warm and then poured them each a glass of wine.
"So you've met my crazy brother any siblings of you own?" Blaine asked spreading his napkin on his lap. Kurt set down the bottle of wine and then began playing with his own napkin.
"Umm...yeah a brother, technically step but we dropped that pretty much right away."
"Are you guys close in age?"
"Yeah just a few months apart, we actually went to school together; we were in glee club together and everything."
"Oh cool, I can't wait to meet him some day."
"Umm...he passed away a few years ago."
"Oh! Kurt! I'm so sorry."
"That's ok you didn't know....I should probably warn you not to bring him up to my roommate Rachel though, he was her great love. I think his passing is why she still lives with me."
"I don't even know her but I want to give her a hug, that poor girl."
Kurt nodded. "Can we talk about something else? I'm going to start bawling if we keep talking about Finn, that was his name by the way."
Blaine nodded. "Umm...how did you get into toy designing, that's a safe topic right?"
"I was going to be on Broadway and have a clothing line. I was actually attending NYADA and working for Vougue.com when..." Kurt cleared his throat and Blaine nodded in understanding. "then I dropped out and moved back to Lima for a bit, my dad and Carole had both already lost their first spouse and losing a son like that...it was just too horrible, so I wanted to be there for them, be with them you know? Eventually dad said as much as they love having me there it was time for me to begin living my own life again and he gave me a ticket back to New York. But I don't know it just felt wrong to go back to how things used to be so I started exploring other ideas and I started taking a bunch of design classes and I found that I really enjoyed designing toys and here I am. What about you? How did you become a professional toy tester?"
"I honestly just kind of lucked into it. I actually wanted to be a performer and thought about applying to schools with good arts programs but I didn't really want to go to school, I was just doing it because I thought I should and then my parents told me I should do what I felt was right for me, so I decided to move to New York to see if I could make a go of it playing in coffee shops or whatever and at the same time Cooper got offered a part on a new TV show that shot in New York, so we got the apartment together and then his show got cancelled, which is a shame, he was so good in it but the viewers just weren't there I guess, anyway I needed a job to pay my part of the rent and then I found a posting for this one on monster.com and the rest is history." Blaine explained.
"Do you still perform?" Kurt asked taking a sip of his wine.
"Occasionally I'll go to open mics night but that's just for fun, you know? What about you?"
"Not really, I just sing around the apartment but I haven't sung in public in years." Kurt sad sadly.
"That's a shame."
"You've never heard me sing I could be terrible." Kurt insisted.
"I refuse to believe you aren't amazing at everything you try, besides you said you were attending NYADA didn't you?" Blaine paused waiting for Kurt to no in confirmation. "You can't be a terrible singer and get into NYADA, it isn't possible."
"Well that's true and yes I am amazing." Kurt said cheekily. "So tell me about your parents, were they supportive of you when you came out?"
"Not at first, they grew up in small town Ohio so they didn't really know too many gay people and they just didn't understand that it wasn't a choice you know? They thought they could convince me to change my mind and be straight, dad even had me help him rebuild a car one summer thinking getting my hands dirty would make me like boobs." Kurt couldn't help but laugh making Blaine pause.
"Sorry it's just my dad owns a garage and I've been working in cars pretty much my whole life so if working on cars made you like boobs I'd be Hugh Heffner by now."
"Thank god that isn't the case." Blaine said smiling.
"Anyway please continue."
"Finally I just snapped and told them they either had to accept me or they were going to lose me but that kind of back fired and they just withdrew from me, they started going out of town a lot and I boarded at school so I barely saw them, mostly on major holidays, sometimes not even then." Blaine took a sip of wine.
"That's horrible but at least you had Cooper."
"I didn't actually, he moved to California and I saw him even less then I saw my parents until one day he just showed up at my school. Shocked the hell out my friends to find out I had a brother and me, I had no idea he knew where I went to school. I kinda of blew up at him via song."
"Of course."
"And then we sat down and talked about everything and the next thing I knew mom and dad were calling me up telling me they were in town and would like me home for the weekend. I was prepared for the worse but I guess Coop talked to them and got them a bunch of literature about having a gay child and after that they really started trying to be my parents again."
"And now?"
"Now they are good, it took a long time for them to accept that being gay isn't a choice anymore then choosing your height or eye color but they finally have. What about your dad?"
"Oh he was great! He told me he had known since I was three years old."
Blaine laughed.
The rest of the date went fantastically, the men talked about everything from movies to music to politics to favorite Vogue covers. Neither one of them wanted the night to end but they both knew it had to eventually.
"Can I see you tomorrow?" Blaine asked nervously as they stood outside of Kurt's apartment.
"There is new art gallery I've been meaning to check out; do you want to come with me?" Kurt asked.
"Definitely. Do you want to go get breakfast first? Make a day of it?"
Kurt nodded. "There's a great little crepe place a few blocks over from the art gallery."
"Cool, text me the address and I'll meet you there at 9 o'clock?"
"Sounds good."
"I had a lot of fun tonight. I'm so glad you asked me out."
"Me too."
"I really want to kiss you now." Blaine whispered.
"I really want you to kiss me now." Kurt whispered back.
Blaine leaned forward putting his hand on Kurt's cheek before joining their lips for a gentle sweet first kiss. They slowly broke apart and looked at each other before crashing their lips back together in a much more needy kiss, lips moving together as if they had kissed each other a thousand times before.
"I should go." Blaine said resting his forehead against Kurt's.
"Ok. I'll see you tomorrow."
Blaine gave Kurt one more sweet kiss before he reluctantly turned and left.
