The investigation took longer than Blaine had hoped, he knew it would probably take a while to find the culprit and bring them to justice but he didn't anticipate it taking this long to clear his name, Wes argued Blaine's innocence until he was blue in the face pointing out that 824-4D (aka Blainey Bear) wasn't one of the toys sold to the competitors and a lot of people in the company had prototypes at their desks so using the bear as evidence against Blaine was unreasonable. Others argued that most of the prototypes at the desks of the other employees were ones that they worked on and perhaps Blaine just hadn't gotten around to selling that particular prototype to the other company. Which is when Wes decided to take a different tactic and focused on figuring out who designed each toy that had been sold, who had tested them, who had made the prototype and who designed any marketing campaigns for them, he hoped if he could find the common link between them that would give them a suspect but unfortunately it seemed that not one single person was assigned to each toy, Wes was elated to discover that Blaine only worked on one of the toys and therefore it was highly unlikely that he even saw most of the toys that were sold, and if he hadn't seen them then obviously he wasn't the one that sold them to the competition. It may have taken a couple of months but Wes was finally able to clear his friend's name, now all that was left to do was to find the really guilty party, Blaine strongly suspected Steve but the evidence that ruled Blaine out also ruled Steve out.
In the end Wes's girlfriend was the one who solved the case, it was over dinner one night that Wes was venting his frustration about not being able to find the link between the toys that were sold when she asked how the toys traveled between departments.
"Like does the production department take the toys directly to the marketing department?" She asked.
"No, someone from the mail room takes them between departments." Wes answered as he took a bite of his spaghetti.
"And have the people in the mail room been questioned?"
He dropped his fork. "I don't think they have."
The next day Wes and the rest of his team started investigating the mail room workers when HR informed them that one of the workers had suddenly quit a couple of months ago, around the same time the deceit was discovered but since the mail room wasn't under investigation at that time the HR department didn't think to mention it to legal, Wes wanted to strangle someone but he kept his polite Dalton-taught exterior in place and got the address of Bill, the former mail worker.
The man had worked for the company for years and had applied to the design department several times but each time the sample toy designs he submitted were deemed unacceptable or dangerous and his applications were turned down which left him with a grudge against the company, coupled with a monetary need brought on by a few bad investments made him the perfect corporate spy, how the competition found him and how many other people they had approached Wes didn't know, but since Bill was caught and a court case would be brought against not only him but also the other company Wes was sure that any other spies or potential spies would be found out then.
Of course Blaine was elated to find out that he was cleared and even more so when he found out that Wes had managed to get Blainey bear "released." Wes had argued since there were no plans to make the bear since, as Wes had put it, most kids don't want a bear with a cardigan and a bow tie and as such there was no need to keep the prototype and instead of destroying it they should let Kurt take it how since he designed it, Wes assured his bosses that Kurt would be willing to sign a contract stating that he will not ever sell that design to another company. Blaine pouted that Kurt was the one to take Blainey bear home but really he was just happy that Blainey bear was once again theirs no matter how much he teased Kurt that Kurtsie bear was lonely for Blainey bear.
As soon as Blaine was officially declared innocent Blaine and Kurt booked a week off work and rented a car so they could take the trip up state they had discussed where they did make love for the first time. A few months later Kurt, Blaine, Kurtsie bear and Blainey bear got their own apartment, Kurt was reluctant to leave Rachel but she insisted, telling him that they couldn't live together forever and promising him if she ever needed him to call him immediately. On their one year anniversary Kurt proposed narrowly beating Blaine to the punch. When Blaine's boss retired Blaine was offered his position which he gladly accepted under the condition he could still test out toys occasionally. Steve was pissed that Blaine was promoted above him and quit and went to work for a telemarketing company since he never really cared about toys in the first place, for him it was just another job.
Kurt began to miss designing clothes and with Blaine's encouragement he quit the toy company and started a small but successful design firm and when he began to miss performing he started auditioning for small off-Broadway roles sometimes Blaine would audition with him so they could be in the play together. At the end of the day they had each other and they were happy.
