Blaine Anderson was what you would call a people pleaser. He had a knack for being able to tell who people wanted him to be and then becoming that person.  At Dalton it was easy they stated in the handbook what they wanted their students to be: “confident dapper young gentlemen,” the Warblers wanted him to be a leader so he became one, Kurt wanted him to be his Prince Charming so he became that too.  Brittany wanted him to have Sam be his vice president so he was; Sam wanted him to stop wearing bow ties so he did. When Kurt went to New York Blaine didn’t know what to do so he became the model student, the one who joined all the clubs not only distract himself but also because that’s what colleges wanted. When he met Eli and Eli wanted him to become a hook-up Blaine did because Blaine was so focused on pleasing people he didn’t even think about how much it would hurt Kurt until it was too late. Blaine spent his whole high school career trying to make everyone around him happy, trying to be who they wanted him to be that he had no idea who he wanted to be. At the beginning of the school year he applying to a bunch of colleges in New York but then the break-up happened and Cooper told him he should apply to schools in California so he did.

                Before he knew it he had a handful of acceptance letters from schools in New York and California and he had no idea what to do. He knew Cooper would be happy if he went to one in California but he had promised Kurt he’d be in New York next year and he didn’t want to break any more promises to Kurt. For the first time in a long time Blaine knew he wouldn’t be able to please everyone. So he told Cooper no and moved to New York.  It turns out Blaine kinda likes saying no, especially if it meant he could do something he really wanted to do.  Blaine also decided to tell NAYDA no and that felt really awesome to reject them not only because they rejected Kurt but because while he loved Broadway it wasn’t really where he saw himself, it wasn’t really his dream.

                Which is how Blaine found himself as a student at NYU where he was majoring in psychology and minoring in music he wanted to go into Music therapy and he figured with this was the best road into getting into that particular Master’s program at NYU. He hadn’t officially declared his major and minor yet, he tried to but they told him it was too soon and he needed to wait until his second year at the earliest to officially declare his major but in his head he was already a psych major, he printed off the requirements and tapped it to his fridge so the he could check off each course as he took it.   Possibly for the first time ever the only person Blaine was trying to please was himself.

When he first got to New York he thought about calling Kurt but he decided he probably shouldn’t it as he had Kurt too much and he was pretty sure Kurt wouldn’t want to talk to him anyway. He would’ve called Rachel but he figured she wouldn’t want to talk to him either being Kurt’s best friends and all besides he was certain Kurt would have moved on and he definitely didn’t want to hear about that so he didn’t call either of them and he knew the chances of running into either of them were slim to none, New York was a big city after all.

Too bad fate, that glorious bitch, had other plans.  

Blaine was supposed to meet up with a classmate so they could study for midterms together, but said classmate texted him and cancelled, unfortunately he had already taken the subway across town to meet up with them, he decided to make the most of the situation and he found the nearest coffee shop, spread out his books and began to study on his own. He didn’t know how long he had been there other than he was currently on his second medium drip when he  swore he heard his name so he looked up and saw Rachel which he could’ve handled if she hadn’t had been with Kurt.
