Next morning, Brit woke up alone. She went to find Artie who was brooding in the garden. After gathering some courage, she approached him and asked what he was thinking about.

“What kind of person do you think I am? Am I someone who’d break with you when you said to break up and date you when you said to date? I must find me really easy, right?” He was now looking at her.

“No, it’s nothing like that.” Brit answered because how could he not understand that she only wanted to be with him and not cause him pain, ever again.

“Just go.” Artie took a deep breath. “Let’s not see each other again either.” He turned away from her but she didn’t start moving. She couldn’t. “You’re really different from me. A year ago, you said goodbye to me, like I’m doing it now, you said ‘let’s not see each other again’ and I felt so silly and grieved and I cried. You seem to have a lot of experience now. No matter what the situation is, you can always remain at ease.”

Brit was still standing there, fighting back her tears. How could he not see how wrong he was being about her?

“I’ve changed a lot, right? I’ve taken revenge by sleeping with you. I’m low and despicable.” Artie’s voice didn’t even shake, saying these things but he started moving around and luckily, Brit couldn’t see his face now. That would be a give away. “The moment I saw you, I felt shaken. No matter what you do, I’ve always let you. Go.”

Now, she was still waiting for the punch line, so it’d turn out to be a joke. But it didn’t come. She had to start moving. She turned and started walking slowly but by the time she reached the stairs, she was running.

He stayed in the garden, staring after her for a while, muttering: “I told you to go and you really went.”

Blaine took him shopping as Kurt didn’t have any fashionable clothes to begin with. Kurt was really enthusiastic about the whole thing and he was still grinning widely when he was trying on the twentieth suit. He had never seen so many colourful shirts and ties and he even needed help with some of the less obvious objects.

When finally, they found the clothes and accessories Kurt needed so they left to arrive to the blind date on time. The both looked dashing: Blaine even got the colours of their clothes matching.

It was easy: Blaine was sitting and chatting with the girls (he was bored out of his skull but tried not to yawn too obviously) and Kurt was waiting for the “show time”. The first girl excused herself and went out to the toilet so the show was ready to go. Kurt and Blaine were standing on the corridor when she came back. Luckily all she saw was that their bodies were flushed against each other but she didn’t see that there was no kissing at all – it was really hard to decide which of the boys wanted to kiss the other less. She ended up hitting Blaine several times with her bag. Some people just don’t like their date kissing someone else.

But Kurt and Blaine were having fun: they figured out what to do (like standing close, nuzzling their noses together) to create the scene without actually doing anything slightly intimate. Their victory handshakes evolved into more and more complicated gestures with each successful encounter: Every time they succeeded there was something like a fist-bump, a high five or sometimes even a one-armed hug of some sort. Moreover, mostly Blaine wasn’t getting hit.

However, after one of the most nerve-wrecking lady left, as they were grinning like idiots, Blaine just planted a kiss on Kurt. When he let Kurt go, he was still beaming but Kurt was standing still with a disbelieving expression on his face. Then he left as soon as he could.

Blaine found him on the streets as he was downing a whole bottle of mouthwash.

“Hey! Why don’t you act properly? Why are you acting like a girl?” Blaine asked, slight frustration evident in his voice.

Kurt spat out the last of the mouthwash and turned to face him. “That was my first kiss.”

“How can that be counted as a kiss? When someone is happy it is …” Blaine then stopped talking as he registered the look on Kurt’s face. “That was my first kiss, too. I mean, with a guy.”

Then to soothe Kurt, Blaine offered to take him out to eat and Kurt agreed. Having fun before may or may not have influenced him when making this decision. Then again, he got a free meal out of this whole thing so he decided not to complain. And they were having fun at the restaurant too: they talked about money matters (not so much fun but necessary) and food they liked and some other stuff. Blaine even admitted that he had a low tolerance to alcohol.

This last piece of information turned out to be true later on when their glasses got mixed up.
