Blaine walks into his apartment with a smile so big it almost hurts his cheeks. A smile that has been firmly in place since he left Kurt at his doorstep.
He flops down onto the couch and turns on the T.V., opting for a mindless comedy since he's just about positive that he won't actually be able to focus on anything of real substance. His head won't stop spinning, and he's not entirely sure that he wants it to. He lets his head fall back against the arm of the couch as he stretches the rest of the way out, his mind turning over the events of the afternoon. His smile grows impossibly wider as he remembers the blush on Kurt's cheeks, the light in his eyes as he talked about the things that he loved, and Blaine's just about sure he's falling for this guy after just one date. He laughs quietly as he remembers their upcoming follow up meeting—Strictly business, of course. Another soft laugh has him feeling weightless in a way he can't ever remember feeling.
He's pulled from his thoughts when his phone starts to vibrate. He pulls it out from his pocket, his smile growing even more, hoping that it's a text from Kurt.
His smile turns into a look of confusion when he sees that it's from a number that he doesn't know.
(9:25) Blaine Anderson? Rachel Berry here. I just want to make sure you're worthy of my best friend.
He stares blankly at the phone for a minute or so before it clicks in his mind who she's talking about. He hesitantly types out his reply.
(9:27) Um, hello Rachel Berry. I'm guessing you're talking about Kurt?
He begins to wonder why Kurt gave this girl his phone number. Was Kurt worried that Blaine was taking advantage of him or something? He wracks his brain for anything that he might have done that might make Kurt suspicious, his heart starting to sink just a little. He's just about worked himself into a complete panic when his phone vibrates again. His worry quickly turns to confusion when he reads Rachel's next message.
(9:27) Of course I'm talking about Kurt! Are you dating more than one guy right now or something?
He flicks the T.V. off, so the noise doesn't distract him while he tries to figure out the situation. He decides answering her question straight-forwardly would probably be his best bet. Added to the fact that he has no idea what's going on, or what this girl – Rachel, did she say her name was? – is talking about, so it's really kind of his only bet.
(9:29) I'm not dating anyone right now...
Her response comes quickly, as though she is trying to correct herself before the situation – whatever the hell this situation is—gets out of hand or something.
(9:29) Right, sorry, Blaine.
A fresh wave of worry floods through Blaine. Did Kurt tell this girl that he and Blaine are dating? He shakes off the thought just as quickly as it came. Kurt wouldn't do that. There's no way he thinks they're dating. They just met. He decides to ask Rachel anyway, just to end his own curiosity.
(9:29) Wait, did Kurt tell you we're dating?
Rachel responds quickly. Though not as quickly as her last text.
(9:30) No, that was just my mistake. Never mind that. I have to go, movie night.
Blaine almost feels like he wants to keep talking to Rachel, like he wants to figure out what's going on here. He still can't understand why Kurt wouldn't just text him himself.
Did he give Kurt the wrong signals on their coffee date, he wonders. He really hopes that isn't the case. The last thing he wants is for Kurt to think Blaine doesn't like him, because Blaine definitely likes him. And it seemed like Kurt had liked him too. He'd playfully joked and flirted—That had been flirting, right?—and it took everything Blaine had to just kiss Kurt on the cheek, before he left. He'd had to fight everything inside him not to just kiss him on the lips, hoping to see more of the beautiful blush color his pale cheeks, but now, he's glad he held back, because if he scared Kurt at all on their date, then kissing him probably would've been the worst thing he could've done.
Oh God, what if he screwed it all up? What if he'd totally freaked Kurt out and made Kurt think that he was some crazy stalker or something....No. Kurt had agreed to go on a second date with him, and people usually don't agree to second dates with stalkers unless they're the heroine in a Twilight book. He takes a deep breath and pushes down the panic.
He decides not to press Rachel any further in their conversation. Hopefully he gave her all of the right answers to the questions she did ask. Hopefully Kurt still wants to go on their "business date" tomorrow. Blaine shakes his head at himself, for even calling it a business date. If even this Rachel girl is asking him about who he's dating, then Blaine hopes that is a sign that Kurt sees them as more than just "business dates," too.
(9:32) Okay. Goodbye, Rachel Berry. Tell Kurt I said hi.
Blaine is surprised, but very relieved, as well, when he reads Rachel's next response.
(9:32) I can't do that. He doesn't know I'm talking to you. I got your number from his phone when he was in the shower.
So Kurt didn't give Rachel Blaine's number out of sheer panic. He wasn't worried about their dates – or whatever they were—or at least he doesn't seem to be, since he hasn't told his best friend about a dangerous stalker he'd had coffee with that day. Something akin to giddiness rushes through Blaine as he realizes that Kurt must have told this girl about his date and it must have been exciting enough to cause her to see Blaine as worthy of getting the "Are you worthy of my best friend" interrogation. And suddenly, he's a lot less worried than he had been, his smile returning at full-force just as his phone buzzes again with another text from Rachel.
(9:33) Also I'd appreciate if you didn't mention this conversation to him. Bye, Blaine Anderson. We'll continue this interrogation later.
Blaine laughs at this text, realizing that she's probably the nosy friend. The lighthearted feeling of earlier has settled back over him again, and he can't help but feel a little thrill of excitement as he writes back.
(9:34) Should I be worried?
The text comes back almost immediately and Blaine's smile grows impossibly wider as he reads the cryptic reply.
(9:34) Maybe just a little bit. ;)
