The bald man beside him chuckled while trying to concentrate on the road that led them to their destination. "I know that you're not happy, Kurt. We talked about this like a zillion times, but Carole lives in Ohio, not New York. But see the positive, you get the opportunity to start a whole new life outside of Idaho."
"Ohio, Dad," the boy dead-panned at his father, "do you really think they gonna greet the gay kid with open arms?" That was a rethorical question. It was clear to him that there were going to be some homophobes around.
"At least you already met Finn and you two seemed to get along alright. I know that you are going to miss some of your friends, but you're going to make new ones. The glee club Finn's part of is already willing to accept you."
Kurt smiled at this. Singing was always one of his greatest passions and that he got the opportunity to do this on a regular bases right from the start was something that brightend up the idea of moving to a whole new town and state. And if he met some people along the way that he might be able to call friends...
He wouldn't complain, to say the least. He only hoped that the Glee Club would truely accept and not be disgusted by him as were many people at his old school. He knew that not everybody was going to love him, but it would be nice to have some guys and girls to talk to and not sit alone at lunch time.
He turned to his father, who was trying to hold in a yawn. "Dad, you know that I'm really happy for you? I know that all I do is complain about the move, but I like Carole and I like that you found someone who makes you happy. I swear I didn't see a smile that big on your face as on the first night you and Carole met since mom, so I'm really glad about this."
"I know, kiddo," his dad said, but kept his eyes on the road like he always told his son to do, "and I appreciate your abillity to give up so much for your old man to be happy. But I want you to know that even if I have Carole now -and god, I love her- I will not forget about your mom. Don't try to deny it. I know it was a big concern of yours, but your mum will always have a special place in my heart and now Carole will have a special place in it, too. There is no way that I can forget about my first big love, especially after she left me such a perfect reminder", he shortly looked over to his son who was smiling soflty to his lap, "you understand that, Kurt?"
"Yes, thank you, Dad. That was a... beautiful speech. I don't know how you do it. On some days all you know how to talk about is sports and cars and the next you are giving the best talk a teenager could get from his father."
The man chuckled, "I don't know, either. Sometimes the words just come to my mind and there is no way to hold them in."
The teen swifted in his seat and leaned his head against the cool glass of the window, not even trying to hold in the loud yawn that escaped his throat: "I think I'm going to sleep for a while. Wake me when we are home."
With that Kurt fell into silence and left his father to think. At the moment, everything seemed to go right for once. He was going to move in with the woman he loved and her adorable son, he had signed the contract to his new garage, he was going to open up in a couple of days and his own son was already referring to their new house as home. The both of them could use some good things happening in their lives for a change. Sure, it wasn't like their lives were purely bad, but they still had a hard time coping with the dead of Elizabeth. Especially himself. And living in the house where the both of them made important memories, wasn't exactly the best way to help him in this situation. Sure, he would never forget her and he didn't want to, but he had to move on at some point. Turns out the woman he met on a business trip to Ohio the spring before was this turning point.
*****
When Kurt got shaken awake, it was already dark outside. He lifted his sleep-drunken eyes to his grinning father outside his door. "Are we there?"
Before he got an actual answer, his question got confirmed by the happy voice of a woman, "Burt, honey!" She threw her arms around the man's neck who hold her in a tight embrace around her waist before giving her a ligth peck to the lips.
"I take that as a yes," the teen chuckled while unbuckling his seatbelt and stepping out into the cool night air of Lima, Ohio or also called his new home, because judging from the way the two adults looked at each other it wouldn't surprise him if they stayed together for a long time.
Next thing he knew was a tall guy pulling him into a bear hug. "Hey man. Good to see you little bro!"
Kurt actually found it cute to be already treated like family, even if he only met the other teen once when Carole and him visited the Hummel family for a nice, long weekend.
"You are aware to the part where I'm older, Finn?" he laughed into the boy's shoulder to which he was still pressed.
Finn than let him go in order to scratch his neck. "But you know, you're like small and stuff, dude!"
Kurt laughed out loud, "No way, you're just a giant!"
"Come on, I have to show you Rachel. She's my girlfriend and she's like super hot and stuff."
"'Kay, let me meet the girl, but don't get angry when I have to steal her from you," the smaller teen joked.
Finn's face fell. "Dude, I thought you were like into guys," he said in a small voice, hands shoved into the pockets of his sweats.
"Calm down, Finn. It was a joke," Kurt laughed lightly, "and yes, I'm still as gay as I was when we first met."
"Good", the other boy sighed in relief, but, realising what he said, tried to paddle back, "I mean you can be whatever you want to be, I don't care, but-"
"It's okay, Finn, I get it," the older teen smiled.
Kurt turned around when a hand landed on his shoulder and he came face to face with the beautiful woman his dad was able to call his girlfriend. He stepped forward into her arms, giving her a kiss to the cheek.
"It's good to see you again, Kurt," the woman expressed by laying a hand on his cheek and giving him a warm, motherly look.
"You too, Carole. And finally my dad can stop whining about having to spend time without you. He was seriously like a lovesick puppy."
Burt tried to give his son a look, but ended up grinning from ear to ear when Carole kissed him in awe.
Kurt turned around to help Finn with the luggage they already brought with them, so they could survive the first few days until the rest of their stuff arrived. He followed the taller teen into the house, trying to look at everything at once.
It was definitly a nice house and clearly decorated by a woman with a lot of heart, considering the scented candles and the tons of pictures, most of them featuring a grinning Finn from as a baby only dressed in his diaper to a pretty new looking photo of him as a football player holding a throphy in one and the ball in the other hand.
"As you probably know, we thought that you would like to have the room in the basement. It is pretty big and, after we renovated it, more than comfortable. We bought you a bed, a dresser and a desk and you have your own bathroom. Your dad told me you probably want to decorate everything by yourself, so I didn't go out buying stuff, yet, but we could go to the mall whenever you're free", Carole spoke softly, while tightening the hold of her rope.
His dad rubbed his eyes tiredly and after trying to stiffle what had to be the fifth yawn in the shortest of times, Carole took the man's hand and pulled him to the bedroom in the upper floor after saying goodnight and telling a still in excitement beaming Finn to lead Kurt to his new bedroom.
"What about...Rachel?" Kurt asked remembering that he was still supposed to meet the girl.
"Oh, I forgot that she is still asleep and I'm not allowed to wake her because beauty sleep and stuff...," Finn frowned.
"Yeah, I should probably get to bed, too."
They stood in silence for a while until Finn jumped up: "Oh, I'm supposed to bring you to your room. I'm sorry, bro. Here we go."
He opened up a door that revealed a staircase and a peek of Kurt's new room. The boys made an awkward dance around the luggage until Finn ended up carrying the two suitcases and Kurt took his messenger bag.
Kurt didn't really bother to take in the room before flopping down onto the bed and falling asleep immediatly. Finn chuckled to himself, but took off the other guy's shoes and threw the blanket over his thin body.
******
The next morning Kurt woke up to the smell of pancakes and bacon that hung in the air. He heard his dad laughing through the open door that Finn had forgotten to close the last night and smiled to himself. He would give everything to see his dad that happy (or hear in this case), even if it meant leaving other stuff behind.
After lying in his warm bed for another 10 minutes, he scrambled to his feet because he felt rather uncomfortable in the jeans that were now sticking to his legs. He had argued with his dad about this quite sometime, but eventually Burt gave up and let Kurt wear skinnies on the drive, even if he thought it was more than stupid. But Kurt refused to go outside the house in sweats. After short consideration, he put on his pair of Burberry pyjamas that looked good enough to leave his room in.
When he reached the kitchen, he was greeted by four people grinning at him with plates of food in front of them and another empty plate ready for him to use. Under the people was a petite, brunette girl who now stood up and made her way over to him.
"You must be Rachel!" Kurt statet while accepting the girl's hug.
"Oh you heard of me? I know I work since I'm a baby, but I didn't know I was that famous, yet," she beamed.
"Actually, Finn told me yesterday," Kurt furrowed his brows.
"Oh," her face fell for a second, but it then got back into the perfect smile like before, "anyway, I heard that you want to join the Glee club and since I'm the leader I could help you pick out an audition song!"
"Let the boy breath!" Carole laughed and gave Kurt a warm smile, "Sit down, honey and eat something. You can choose whatever you want, but hurry up before Finn swallows everything."
"What?" said boy asked in the middle of devouring another pancake.
"Nothing, honey," she patted her son's arm while rolling her green eyes. She then got up and kissed Burt on the cheek, "I have to go to work, but I hope you guys can live without me for a while."
"On a sunday?" Burt pouted. Kurt laughed because his dad actually stucked out his bottom lip and tried to make puppy eyes at his girlfriend.
"That's the downside of being a nurse. People don't magically stop being sick for the weekend."
"You mean the downside beside all this super nasty stuff you have to do?" Kurt scrunched up his nose in disgust at the thought.
Carole again rolled her eyes while she gathered her things to throw them into her purse. After waving goodbye, she excited the house with the quite clicking of the closing front door.
"What have you planned for today, kids?" Burt asked, while pushing his food around his plate which basically only consisted of a few vegetables.
He had a heart attack nearly a year ago and now everyone was eager to keep him fit and healthy.
"We thought we could take Kurt to the mall and meet some of the New Directions?" Rachel told them to which Finn nodded.
Kurt nearly burst out laughing. "Sorry, who should I meet?"
"The New Directions," Finn statet confused, "it's the name of our Glee club."
"Wierd," Kurt mumbled barely audible to himself, but then nodded at the others, "I would love to meet them!"
****
The mall was very different from the mall in his hometown. It was definitely bigger and there were a lot of teenagers in their age strolling around. At his old home people always tried to avoid the mall, what was probably because it only hold over-size clothing shops and an animal shelter which had settled with the cheapest place it could get.
Here there were a food court and even a cinema featured in one of the upper floors. Lima maybe wasn't the biggest city of all, but it had a convincable shopping center.
It was easy for Kurt to bond with Finn's quirky girlfriend. She talked a lot what was kinda unnerving, but at least they had the same interest in broadway. So they chattered away about his audition song while Finn tagged along and looked for their friends.
They first stopped when they entered the food court and a tall blond girl flung her arms around Kurt, who tried not to stumble and fall under the sudden movement. He awkwardly patted her back before she loosened the embrace and looked him straight in the eyes with a serious expression. "Thank the big head-lion that you found your way through fairy land without getting eaten by the big trolls."
Kurt gave her a bewilderd expression and turned to Finn, "Should I be offended?" He normally would be, but the girl didn't seem like a threat, even if she wore a cheerleading uniform. Despite that, her blue eyes were filled with honest relief and her hands still hold Kurt's bizeps softly.
Kurt slightly turned the corners of his mouth up in an attempt to make the girl feel better as she still seemed a little worried, what she returned with a full-toothed grin.
Finn shook his head slightly. "No, that's just Britt, she thinks you're a fairy since I have shown her a picture of you."
"In real you are even more magical," she whispered while gosting her fingers over the boy's smooth skin, "I would ask you to take me to your tree house, so we could make butterflies, but Santana says that I shouldn't do it because you're a dolphin."
Kurt knitted his eyebrows together in confusion. "Thanks, I guess and I'm pretty sure that-"
"Yeah, Brittany, he's a dolphin," Rachel interrupted him and then turned to Kurt to whisper in his ear, "she thinks dolphins are gay sharks, so she was just asking if you are into guys."
Kurt shook his head still confused, but smiled at the blond cheerleader who was picking on Finn's pullover by now. "Yeah, I am a... dolphin."
She jumped up and down in excitement and clapped her hands together. "I knew it! Let's show you to the others!" With that she interwined their fingers and pulled him through the tables to a corner where another couple of teenagers were sitting.
One of the girls send him a glare before giving Brittany a loving look when said girl jumped onto the bank beside her. Kurt eyed the Latina for one more second before settling his view on a blond guy wtih huge lips who was now speaking to him: "Hey, Dude. Good to finally see you in person after Finn told us so much about you and your dad."The boy hold out his fist for Kurt to bump, what he did then eventually after short hesitation.
The afro-american girl next to him rolled his eyes at the action. "Excuse my boyfriend for being stupid, but he doesn't know the etiquettes."
"Hey, that is what dudes do. I'm sure he hasn't got a problem with it."
Kurt shook his head no. "Just not used to being around guys who are like that. That comes from only having friends in musical theater and being the gay kid." He didn't know why, but he had the feeling that he could talk openly about his sexuality with these people without being harassed.
"No prob, white boy," the blonde guy's girlfriend told him, "in the New Directions we doesn't believe in judging people of what they were born with and the guys are rather boyish, but of course they have their soft sides, but who doesn't? By the way, I'm Mercedes and this is Sam." She once again turned her head to the other teen.
Kurt definitly liked the girl's fierce personality, so he sat down next to her on the table when Finn hushed him to do so. Finn himself sat down next to Rachel and the latina, who was now twirling straps out of the blond girl's ponytail around her finger, while eyeing Kurt up and down until she finally nodded approvingly. "Nice."
"Excuse me?" Kurt asked blushing under the as well dressed in a cheer uniform girl's stare.
She smirked and gave him a pointing look. "I just made you a compliment that you're a totally hot piece of ass." She slightly clapped her hands together and raised her voice into a mocking tone, "Yeah!"
Kurt raised an eyebrow at her. "Thanks... You look not bad, either."
The girl snorted, "As if I didn't know. But you will make a certain little hobbit I know really happy."
Someone of the guys on the other end of the table to which Kurt didn't pay much attention yet made a coughing sound that made all the heads turn to him.
Except the cheerleader who inspected her nails instead. "Oh, come on, Smythe, you fucked. Whatever. You know he is the "hump and dump" kind of type - and not the bad one," she smirked.
The other teen scoffed at her and crossed his arms in front of his body. "You're just jealous that he's not interested in you."
Now the latina looked up and her eyes were on killer mode, but her lips still in a smirk. "Every guy wants me," she laughed, "even the gay ones."
"Woah, woah," a blond guy to the Smythe dude's right exclaimed, "chill out, guys. You scaring our new friend away."
"Nah, it's fine. I grew up with diva's around me. These kind of fights were my daily program to deal with," Kurt waved it away.
The blond one chuckled, "Yeah, I know what you mean." He gave his friends pointing looks to which a lot of the teenagers on the table broke out into laughter.
"By the way, the blond one is Jeff and the asian to his right is Wes. Our Queen bitch over here is Santana," Mercedes gestured to the angry cheerleader.
By looking around the group it was clear that they were really oddly mixed, what only underlined the statement of not judging somebody by first appearence. If all of them were able to be friends, more or less, Kurt was sure that he could fit in, too. What was very strange, because Kurt Hummel was never the type of guy who fit in anywhere.
Finn stood up and collected orders from Rachel, Kurt and Sam who had already eaten a burger, but pointed out that he was still more than hungry, when Kurt excused himself to go to the toilet.
He turned around as he noticed someone following him and saw that it was the boy Santana argued with before. "Hey... Smyth."
"It's Sebastian," the boy smiled, "Smyth is my last name. Santana only uses it, because she thinks it is more intimidating." He rolled his eyes.
"So, what are you up to, Sebastian?"
"Oh, same as you, the Cola I had is really heavy on my bladder," Sebastian laughed.
"Good, 'cause now you can show me. I have no freakin' plan, where the hell a bathroom should be in this monster of a mall," Kurt sighed dramatically.
"Right over there." The other guy pointed to a nearly hidden door between two fast food chain restaurants.
Inside the bathroom a guy with a mohawk was leaning against the sinks, looking up when he heard the door open. A huge grin broke free on his face. "Seb, what's up? I thought you were in Philadelphia this weekend?"
"No, I cancelled out on my dad. I'm here with some of the guys to say hello to Kurt over here," Sebastian grinned back.
The other teen shifted his eyes away from Sebastian to Kurt who was trying to not make eye contact because that's what people told him to do to avoid being beaten up. Much to his surprise, the taller guy wrapped him up in his arms to squeeze him tightly.
Kurt squeaked in need of air, so the guy let him down and beamed at him when Kurt trusted himself to look up.
"I'm Puck", the teen leaned back into his former position, "I'm also in Glee Club."
Kurt quirked an eyebrow. It seemed really strange to him that a guy who looked like he could easily kick your ass would spend his free time singing and dancing in a show choir.
The boy laughed. "I know what you're thinking, but really, dude, it's about doing what you love and not about pleasing everyone else. And by the way, if they wanted to do anything I could easily fight back." To emphasize his point he hold up his arm to show off his bizep.
"Cut the crap, Puckerman," one of the toilet doors opened and out of it stumbled a in comparison rather small teen with wild, dark curls and gorgeous honey-amber eyes which instantly landed on Kurt and stayed there as if they were drawn by some supernatural power.
Kurt gaped at the boy and the black t-shirt he was wearing that clung to his body at all the right places and showed of the muscles in his crossed arms.
"Close your mouth, baby or put it to better use," the guy smirked after a few moments.
Kurt blinked heavily in order to get his full conciousness back and snorted at the other teen, "I guess you're the little hobbit I was told about?"
The guy raised his eyebrows at Sebastian who was holding his hands up. "Not my words, Blaine! Ask Santana!"
"Are you coming, Anderson, or do I have to go alone?" Puck asked annoyed.
"Just a second," Blaine told him, his eyes retreating back to the boy with the chestnut brown hair that was coiffed to perfection and the stunning blue eyes in front of him, "what's your name?"
Kurt gave him a sceptical look, but answered anyways: "Kurt."
"Going on?"
"Don't worry, I'm not going to find and kill you," he added.
"Hummel."
"Okay, Kurt Hummel. Nice to meet you." The teen eyed him for another few moments while Kurt shifted uncomfortable under his stare until Blaine trained his eyes on Puck. "Let's go!"
The two guys moved to the door in order to leave. Before they were out, Blaine turned around one more time and spoke in a way softer voice than before, "See you around, Kurt!"Kurt gave a little smile to the teen who was gone a moment later.
When Kurt turned back to his new friend, he saw Sebastian wearing a distant look and biting the inside of his cheeks. "Everything alright, Sebastian?"
Slowly the other teen moved his gaze to him. "You know what, fuck you!" The next moment he stormed out the door and left a dumbstruck Kurt behind.
He stood there confused in silence for another few moments until he reminded himself that there were people waiting for him and what the original reason for his trip to the bathroom was.
When he made it over to the table, Sebastian, Jeff and Wes weren't there anymore. He could feel all the eyes on him as he took his seat beside Mercedes again.
"What have you done with, Seb?" Brittany asked in a small voice.
Kurt let his view travel over the group in order to find answers, but they only starred at him, so he decided to tell what he knew. "We met Puck and Blaine in the bathroom and afterwards he was all angry at me. But I have no idea what the reason was. I didn't even talk that much."
Santana hummed in acknowledgement."So you met Blaine, huh? And? How do you like him?"
He only blushed at this, what made the cheerleader lick her lips with a victorious smile. "Thought so..."
"Could you please for a second stop trying to get Blaine laid?" Mercedes asked in an annoyed manner.
"Could you please for a second shut up, so I can solve the mystery of Smyth's dramatic outflow?" the Latina mocked with crossed arms, "so, where was I? Okay, honey, did he show interest in you?"
"I don't know," Kurt answered truthfully, "why should he?"
"Don't come me with that shit, Hummel. Can we please skip the part where you whine about how unloved you feel and get to the point?"
Kurt only glared at her until she sighed loudly, "God damn it, could you pretty please tell all of us if Blaine said anything that could make Smyth so jealous that he feels the need to storm away?"
"He said something about how I should use my mouth for something better, but that was practically it."
Kurt tried to hide his furious blush bysipping on his drink while Santana scrunched her forehead in thought. "That is just typical Blaine. Nothing Sebastian isn't used to."
"I'm sorry that I have to break up your little detective game, Tana, but I need to get Kurt home, so his dad doesn't freak out," Finn mentioned.
Kurt looked at the clock that hung over Rachel's head. "Finn, it's not even 5pm. I think my dad is okay with me staying a little longer..."
"But you know, Burt and I planned on watching football today and the game starts pretty soon and I can't leave you behind."
Kurt only rolled his eyes at his kind-of step-brother, but sighed and got up. "I guess that means good-bye... See you tomorrow at school?"
"Definitly," Mercedes statet and kissed his cheek while the others smiled and told the guys to get home safe.
*****
The moment they came through the door, Finn planted himself on the couch beside Burt who was lazily sipping on a beer that he was allowed one of from time to time.
Kurt went straigt to his bedroom after saying hello to his dad and for the first time really took in the place. This morning he was either still sleep-drunken or in a rush to put together an outfit on the spot after having spend the morning in his pj's, watching cartoons with Finn and his dad.
Now that he could finally fully examine the space, he noticed that it was really rather big. The walls were plain white though and already left room for Kurt's mind to wander to which colors he could use that would fit with the beautiful, dark wood of the other funiture.
Then Kurt moved to put the content of his suitcases to one half in the build-in closet and to the other folded in the dresser, on which he also placed some picture frames with photos of his friends back at home and a big one reserved for his mother.
It wasn't till now that he noticed how much he actually missed his friends, even if they were only seperated for two days. Sure, there weren't many of them, but the ones he had Kurt loved all the more. He would miss the inside jokes and the movie nights every Saturday with his girls and he would miss his boyfriend - ex-boyfriend by now.
They had decided that it would be better to break things off before it ended in a horrible arguement that long distance caused in a lot of times. They told themselves that if they were ever to meet again for a longer period of time, they would try to make it work as it did wonderfully before.
Besides the fact that they got constantly harassed for being an out-and-proud gay couple, their relationship was nothing far from perfect. They really made each other happy and knew what to do when the other was upset about something.
Yes, he would definitly miss his boyfriend, Kurt thought as he went to put a photo of both of them grinning at the camera from when they were in Disneyland for New Year's Eve on his nightstand.
He straighted out the equally white sheets and grabbed his notebook to sit on his bed and sketch ideas of how to design his room, so he could distract himself from the sad thoughts.
He first looked up again when Carole came down to call him for dinner and found Kurt in a puddle of ripped out pages, biting his tongue, while trying to find the perfect shade of cream. "Honey, it's dinner time! I'm sure you can leave your designs alone for an hour."
"Yeah, sure, I'm up in a minute." Kurt waved her away, not looking up.
Carole shook her head with a light laugh, but didn't argue him when she retreated to the upper floor.
Kurt sighed in frustation, but threw his workpad somewhere on the bed and got up to get dinner. When he reached the table the other three were already sitting there in their pyjamas and laughed about a joke Finn had made.
Kurt snuggled up tiredly into his father who put an arm around him. "Not that I would complain, but why so affectionate, buddy?"
"Just missing everybody..." Kurtyawned while closing his eyes.
"Hey, buddy, no sleeping before you ate," his father chuckled, "and I'm really sorry that you miss your friends, but cheer up, only a couple of weeks and they're already visiting you."
Carole gave him a pitying smile. "I know it is hard when you have to leave everything you know behind. It was the same with me when my parents moved us from Alabama to Ohio. But you will find new friends. I know most of the glee people and they might be a little special, but they're really nice."
"Yeah, Kurt," Finn glanced up from his coke, "You didn't tell me how you liked my friends?"
Kurt thought for a second. "I guess I will fairly get along with Rachel, Sam and Mercedes. They are really cool. Brittany also seems like a nice person, but I'm a little intimidated by her friend. I don't know Jeff and Wes that much, yet, and Sebastian seems to hate me by now. Yep, that pretty much summerises it."
"Don't worry about Seb. He sometimes has his things where he gets totally in rage over stupid stuff, but he never hurts anybody, so we just wait it out," Finn explained.
Kurt raised his eyebrows but nodded, so he could take care of the salad in front of him Carole had made to his wishes, and ended the talk.
Obviously Burt had another opinion. "Who is this Sebastian kid and why does he hate you?"
"Dad, it's noth-"
"No, I won't let this stuff happen again, here. Just because you may not be like everyone else, it isn't a reason to hate you!" Burt's voice loudened through his speech.
"Dad, please calm down. Remember your heart! And I'm pretty sure he's also gay," Kurt tried to get his dad to stop freaking out.
"So what happened that this kid hates you?" When he didn't get an answer from his son, he turned to Finn. "What happened?"
Said boy only shrugged, "Santana says he is jealous."
"Of Kurt?" Burt asked shocked.
"Thanks, Dad." Kurt rolled his eyes.
"You know I didn't mean it like that. But you were gone for what? 2 hours at most?"
Kurt blushed at the thought of Blaine and his gorgeous features and the pretty obvious checking out he had to take in the bathroom. That didn't go unnoticed to his dad. "Kurt, I ask you one time and I want an honest answer. Why should this guy be jealous?"
"There was this guy, we met in the bathroom..." Kurt started.
"In the bathroom?" Burt exclaimed, "what the hell have you done in the bathroom?"
"What do you think, dad?" Kurt asked sarcastically.
"I think that I want the whole story!"
Carole laid an soothing hand on Burt's arm. "I'm sure Kurt will tell you everything if you stop yelling!"
"Thanks, Carole and you don't have to worry. This guy said some stuff to me and Sebastian seems to like him, so he stormed off, but as Finn said, he probably only needs some time to chill out," Kurt explained in a quiet voice.
"Do you like this guy?"
"Who?", Kurt knitted his eyebrows together.
"This kid from the bathroom," Burt asked in wait for an answer to which his son only snorted, "Dad, I met him for 3 minutes and he already showed himself to be an idiot. I very much don't like this guy!"
"What's his name?"
"Dad, why do you bother?" Kurt asked exhausted.
"Just tell me and this talk is over..."
Kurt sighed, but wanted nothing more than this. "It's Blaine. Blaine Anderson."
Burt hummed in acknowledgement, but didn't say anything more until the meal was over and the teens back in their respective rooms. He sacked back into the couch, Carole joining him shortly after. He rubbed his eyes tiredly, ready to sleep on the spot, but he couldn't forget about what his son told him. "You know this kid? Blaine Anderson?" he nearly spit the name.
"Yeah, he was over for a couple of times last year, but he didn't seem like that much trouble. Sure, not grandmother's favourite, but not the worst, either."
"I don't like him."
"You don't even know him."
"What do you think it was, what he said to my son, that would make another kid jealous and him seem like an idiot? I don't want him near Kurt."
"Kurt is seventeen. I am pretty sure that he can handle this by himself, honey."
Burt settled into the arms of his girlfriend, willing his thoughts onto the game that was playing as a re-run on the small tv while Carole rubbed circles into his shoulder.
****
This night Kurt tossed and turned in his bed, not being able to loose the image of the honey-coloured eyes that were framed by thick, dark eyelashes. And those curls that Kurt wanted to thread his fingers through. He didn't get why he was haunted by the image of the other teen. Sure, he was gorgeous, but also the first thing he said to Kurt was a sexual innuendo and Kurt's break-up with Conner was only days ago. He also thought about what Santana had said. If Sebastian was used to Blaine acting like that to other guys, why should he get so angry? It all just wouldn't make any sense to Kurt.
