"Big day today." I say to her.
And as always she replies,
"You say that everyday, you old devil."
I give a soft smile and walk away. When I finally reach his room, I over hear the nurse talking to him.
"It's a lovely day outside, let's take a walk", she suggests.
He replies short, and seems distracted.
"I don't think so."
The nurse goes through a list of things that they could do but she keeps getting the same answer.
"No."
"Well, we've got to get you out of this room. Come on honey-"
I slowly walk in trying not to startle anyone. When the nurse finally sees me, I am fully in the room. I wave to both of them.
"Its not good day today." she whispers so he doesn't hear her.
"Kurt honey, this is Mr. Anderson, He's gonna read to you today."
"Read?" Kurt said almost silently.
"Mhm." The Nurse shot back.
"No. I don't know." Kurt said with an unsure look on his face.
"Oh, come on. You'll like him. He's very funny."
I flashed Kurt the best smile I could without breaking down and walked over to the table and sat next to him. Trying to make him feel more comfortable I didn't sit too close.
"Hey Kurt, remember me? Everett?"
Now I always avoid using my first name around him, he remembered once and got so terrified they had to inject him with some type of medicine just to calm him down. An experience I never want to go through ever again. After I introduce myself he had this it look on his face as if he is searching through his thoughts, trying to see if he actually remembers me. I just look at him for while as he does this for a moment or so then continue talking.
"Alright now where did we leave off? Oh yeah, Kurt, Rachel and Finn went to the Carnival at Dalton to see Blaine."
Kurt still trying to remember replied, "Blaine?"
I smiled when my name left his lips.
"That's where they met." I continued ignoring his question.
"It was November 6, 2010. Kurt was 17 years old."
