hey. this is blaine. it was really nice seeing you yesterday. let me know if you wanna talk
Kurt tapped his screen for the millionth time when it dimmed to prevent it from going black. He stared at the device with glazed eyes, only broken out of his trance when Rachel slipped out of her room and settled into the couch next to Kurt. Pulling his knees to his chest, Kurt retreated- he really wasn't in the mood to talk. Not right after the blowout between Liam and himself...
--
...The dark-haired man stood suddenly, sending his barstool crashing to the floor and huffed out of the kitchen as he pushed past Kurt wordlessly. He opened the front door and shot a burning glare at Kurt when his boyfriend looked completely unfazed,
"I'm going out."
"Okay."
"Don't you care where I'm going?" the man pressed, "Hm?"
Kurt rolled his eyes,
"You're an adult, I'm sure you can take care of yourself."
The door slammed shut, Liam's dark brown eyebrows furrowed,
"Do you care about anything? You haven't even asked what's been going on the last few days."
Grabbing a glass from the counter and filling it with water, Kurt took a sip to calm himself before replying coolly,
"I think I could figure that one out on my own. And honestly, it's not my job to follow you around and try to guess why you're angry every time you get pissy."
"Pissy?" Liam shot back, voice steadily rising, "I'm sorry I have feelings, Kurt!"
"Maybe if you didn't have so many, I'd actually care," Kurt sneered.
"Why are you so snarky lately, what did I ever do to you?"
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe you could stop following me around everywhere, getting pissed whenever a guy looks in my direction. Don't you have anything better to do? Go make some friends, or, or something! Stop making everything about you- for once, for once, could you please listen to what I'm saying to you? Really? Do you even have to ask, Liam? Do you?" Kurt downed the rest of his glass, regaining his composure, "What did you ever do to me? What did- do you think I even want to be in this relationship? You think I love you?"
Liam's fist hit the door, "Don't say that. I love you Kurt. You're just saying 'cause you're angry and you like to hurt people when you're angry. Don't you dare say that."
"Oh my god. This is a joke."
"I'm sorry- what the fuck did you-"
Liam was cut off by the sound of Kurt's phone.
"-who's that."
"A boy," Kurt smiled mockingly, "Why?"
Liam nodded repetitively, licking the corner of his mouth. He was reaching for something to say, Kurt never talked back like this. Frankly, it had him off guard- he wasn't even sure if the text was just Mercedes and Kurt was trying to push his buttons, or if he really had some guy's number. Either way, he knew he was fighting a losing battle, so with one more glare at Kurt he opened the door and slammed it behind him- a storming-out that put even Rachel to shame...
--
...Rachel shifted nervously on the old blue couch, unsure if speaking would redirect Kurt's anger in her direction. Eventually, however, Kurt tossed his head back and sighed, letting his eyes fall shut and the touchscreen darken.
As much as Kurt hated Liam sometimes, he was his first official boyfriend. While the romance was dead for him, he was comfortable in the mediocrity of their relationship, or, he had been. Recently though, with the advent of Blaine and the incessant jealousy toward everything that moved, he was rapidly losing his patience with the other man. Sometimes he really wasn't so bad, he'd never hurt Kurt, he just threw things, like cans and dishes and tantrums.
Everything the man did was overcompensation for some insecurity or another. At first, Kurt helped him address these- at some level it may have become sort of a project for him. He used to be sweet, fun, exciting. At least, Kurt thought he was. Or maybe Rachel was right- Kurt was just swept up because someone was finally taking notice of him. Either way, somewhere along the line everything became about Liam. He couldn't remember the last time Liam got his coffee for him or wanted to share a sunrise.
As if Rachel knew what Kurt was thinking, she put her hands over Kurt's, which still clutched his phone,
"Sometimes when we look for something too hard, we're willing to settle for less than we're worth, Kurt."
Since when did Rachel grow up, Kurt was supposed to be the adult in this household.
"Even the best make mistakes," Rachel pecked him on the cheek.
She got up and headed back to her room, not before grinning,
"We just know when to move on."

it was nice seeing you too... are you free tomorrow morning?
8:14pm
ill bring the coffee ;)
Blaine stretched and threw himself on his bed, letting his eyes flutter shut and a big, silly grin stretch across his face.
"Blaine, David's here!" Wes shouted upstairs.
"Busy!" Blaine yelled back down.
He flopped over on his bed several times, grabbing a pillow and burying his face in it. He clutched onto it for dear life when he rolled right off the bed with a heavy thud. Though the sudden landing knocked the air out of him, he still found a little more to laugh.
