Blaine placed the two mismatched mugs filled with dark roast and cream on a table for two customers, “Here you are! Your panini are almost done, I’ll be out with them in a second. Thanks for your patience.” The couple nodded and Blaine started toward the back to check on their food order. He glanced at the clock- 12:49pm. His lunch break was soon, but there was a particularly large lunch crowd this Tuesday so he figured it’d be a while until he could appease his growling stomach.
“Blaine!” A warm body crashed into his, enveloping him in a warm embrace.
“K-Kurt?” Blaine stuttered. He wasn’t expecting Kurt until evening. While Kurt had a long break on Tuesdays, the boy didn’t usually stop by in the afternoon. And he was definitely not expecting Kurt to rush in and attack-hug him. Not that it bothered him, his broad smile and perky voice kind of gave that away, “What’s up?”
Kurt pulled away, simply glowing, “I got in!”
“Sorry?”
“I got into The Apples! I start glee club today!”
Blaine put his hands on his hips and grinned, “See. What did I tell you.” Pink rose in Kurt’s face as his blue eyes searched for the floor, his smile peeking out from behind his lashes.
Blaine chuckled, hanging in the doorway to the kitchen, “Let me finish up the lunch rush and I’ll take my break? Unless you’re headed somewhere.”
“Oh, Isabelle needs me before my next class…sorry,” Kurt answered lamely, “I wish I could.”
Blaine shook his head, “Go.”
“Okay,” Kurt beamed, stepping forward to hug Blaine once more, “See you!”
Before Blaine could reply, Kurt was out the door. “See you.”
Despite being especially busy, the rest of the day was much more tolerable for Blaine, still elated from seeing Kurt so happy.

Blaine glanced at the clock again, apprehensively this time. 5:28pm. Kurt usually arrived right before his shift was over, he’d never been late before. Unwilling to appear impatient or needy, Blaine waited until it was almost six before texting Kurt.
5:47pm
hey, coming?
For what seemed like an eternity, Blaine waited.
6:32pm
Blaine! I’m so sorry…I forgot to tell you I have glee from 5 to 8
6:33pm
3 hours?
6:39pm
Yeah, for all the new members. Just for today! Promise! Sorry
6:39pm
don't worry
Blaine paused for a moment, before adding ‘have fun :)’ and hitting send.
Blaine helped clean up, sweeping and rearranging straws, before heading out into the cold. He walked slowly to the train station, disappointment leaving him too tired to run, even as frozen rain began to fall.
He felt selfish for his own displeasure, thinking back to the how ecstatic Kurt was earlier in the day. He’d hugged Blaine. He’d come all the way out from school to tell Blaine in person. He’d made a mistake. Mistakes happen. Blaine hounded himself for being so greedy; Kurt deserved this more than anyone he knew.
Just for today! Kurt had promised. Blaine tried to reassure himself that it was an accident, Kurt was too excited. However, as he shivered at the station, waiting for his train back to campus, he was all too reminded of the way Kurt had pushed him aside before. Reminded of the short and distracted phone calls, the desperate text messages, the loneliness.
No. It was just today, Kurt wanted Blaine in his life, he’d forgotten once. It didn’t mean anything.
But it did, and Blaine knew he was fooling himself. He was scared of becoming an irrelevant detail of Kurt’s life, all over again. Just for today! Blaine reassured himself. Just today, just for today. And then he’d get his Tuesdays back, his Kurt back.
Yes. Just for today.
--
Kurt fell into his bed, completely exhausted. Glee here was nothing like glee back in Lima, all his muscles were screaming at him, even after an incredibly long and incredibly hot bath. The steam must have gone to his head because before he knew it, he’d fallen asleep, still in his towel and unmoisturized. However, he jolted awake when he remembered how he’d completely abandoned Blaine. He felt bad- terrible, really. Blaine had to have at least waited over an hour for him. At least the coffee shop was warm and he had friends there. That thought didn’t really do much to comfort Kurt.
9:10pm
Hey you
Kurt got no response from Blaine. Eventually he stopped staring at his screen and rolled off his bed to finish prepping for bed. He glanced down at the phone on his bed a few more times while he dressed and dried his hair. He watched it for a while longer after he was tucked in under his comforter.
Blaine was probably mad. Kurt couldn’t really blame him, Tuesdays were their day. But it was really just one day, one accident, and Blaine knew how excited he was. Anyway, he’d told Blaine there was glee today; when did Blaine think it would be? No, he still couldn’t make himself blame the boy for ignoring him.
Kurt ultimately dropped the phone onto his bedside table. He let his mind drift back to glee rehearsal. The Apples were serious business, dance practice was more than just hip-rolls and spirit-fingers. It reminded him more of The Warblers, new members didn’t get input into song selections, that was left to the senior members and the club president.
Mm. The club president. Adam. Beautiful, British, golden-haired, blue-eyed Adam. He had one hell of a voice. And one hell of a body. Kurt couldn’t help but stare at the boy- no, the man- as he drilled the new members on how The Apples worked, on what was expected of them, and on their ultimate disposability if they couldn’t keep up. Despite the harsh nature of his address to the new kids, Adam had Kurt thoroughly entranced.
Once or twice, Kurt thought he’d caught Adam looking at him too. And then, during dance practice, Adam came over and put his hands on Kurt back, correcting his moves. A little too low on his back. No. He’d probably imagined it. Adam was a senior and somewhat a NYADA legend. He’d already accepted roles in several off-Broadway shows. Still, Kurt couldn’t shake the feeling of those fingers trailing down his back, the warm breath in his ear that told him to keep his head up, eyes forward. The clear, blue, ice-like gaze trailing up and down his face, golden hairs tickling Kurt’s ear, lips curled up in a cocky grin-
The buzzing of his phone snapped Kurt out of his head.
10:10pm
hey you! sorry, i was sleeping. how was rehearsal?
Kurt smiled, glad that Blaine wasn’t ignoring him.
10:12pm
I’m exhausted. Everything hurts
10:12pm
aw, anything exciting happen?
Except for possibly being molested by his incredibly hot glee president?
10:13pm
Nope
10:14pm
cute boys??
Did Blaine read minds?
10:17pm
Not really
10:19pm
bummerrr
10:20pm
Dork. Goodnight Blaine
10:20pm
Goodnight Kurt.
10:27pm
Kurt?
10:28pm
Hm?
10:31pm
sweet dreams.
Kurt smiled at his phone and rested it on his nightstand, muscles still aching, but heart soothed as he let his eyes flutter shut.
