Author's Notes:

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this story as much as I enjoyed writting it. :)

Kurt was tired, but it was the good kind of tired you felt when your days are busy doing things you love. He was on his way home from campaign headquarters. Tomorrow was Election Day and there wasn't much left they could do, it was in the peoples' hands now.

Kurt had been working tirelessly on Santana Lopez's campaign. With the fall of the WG a vacuum for a new Government was created. It was slowly being built, elections were being held so that the people could have a say in how their new world was run.

Both Kurt and Blaine had been approached about running for a new title called "Sheppard" someone who would lead the people and help in taking care of their needs. Not like the Leaders of the past, who were dictators more than anything else. This person was more a representative of the people, to help maintain some kind of harmony within the cities and the outside groups that were growing in number.

Both Kurt and Blaine had turned down the offer. They did want to help and were finding their own ways of doing so. Blaine was working with the Children’s' Program, helping to find good homes for the many displaced children of former WG cities. He also spent a lot of time writing music and singing. Something that fit well into his work with children.

The arts was huge right now, people had been starved for it, so Blaine was also part of creating new jobs and foundations devoted to music, and painting, and writing and all kinds of art.

Kurt was so proud of him and everyday it seemed he saw Blaine grow more and more confident and easy with himself and who he was really meant to be.

For Kurt's part, though the role of Sheppard was too much for him to want to handle, he was deeply involved in the new
forming government. Much to the amusement of Puck who still teased him that he went from Rebel to Government Leader. It was all in good fun though; everyone knew this new world they were building would be nothing like the old one.

Both Kurt and Blaine had put their significant influence behind the candidate they thought was best for the job. Santana
Pierce-Lopez had grown up in a WG city before escaping with her know wife, Brittany. She understood both worlds and had great plans for bringing the two together.

Kurt thought he might take a lower position in the government latter on. Maybe a Mayor or Governor or something. He lived in Principal City now and was coming to love it and its people.

He was half listening to Sugar's show on the shuttle ride. It was still the most popular of many new shows that had popped up. She was interviewing Brittany Pierce-Lopez and Kurt chuckled as Santana's wife kept getting distracted from answering Sugar's questions with stories about her cat.

Brittany was like Blaine in the fact that she had recovered from intense re-acclamation. Kurt didn't know if some of her idiosyncrasies were because of that or just part of her character.

Kurt hopped of the shuttle as it got to his stop and walked up the stairs to the apartment he shared with his Fiancé. Kurt smiled at the thought and rubbed his thumb over the silver band on his finger. Blaine had a matching one. Mercedes designed them for them; she and Sam were heavily part of the emerging art scene.

Kurt walked into the apartment and called out, "Blaine? Are you home?"

Blaine was busy today at a local Children’s' Home, interviewing teachers for positions they had available there.

Blaine poked his head around the corner and smiled. "Yup, just starting dinner."

"Kurt shrugged off his bright maroon jacket, not everyone was use to wearing color yet, but Kurt loved that he was able to go back to his old clothes again. He joined Blaine in the kitchen, wrapping his arms around his waist and kissing his neck as Blaine chopped tomatoes and sighed into the kiss.

"How are things with the campaign?" Blaine asked.

Kurt nuzzled into his neck, his lips brushing against his skin as he spoke. "I really think she is going to win Blaine. We won't know for sure until this time tomorrow." He kissed the curve of Blaine's neck and shoulder.

"But." kiss. "I really" kiss. "Think." kiss. "She is." kiss to Blaine's jaw. "Our new Sheppard." Blaine turned and met Kurt's lips with a kiss of his own.

Both the election and dinner forgotten for a moment as they got lost in the taste and feel of each other.

"And if she doesn't win?" Blaine eventually asked, his lips still close to Kurt's.

"Mmmm. I honestly think she will, but if not her opponent isn't an all together bad choice. Wes has a good head on his shoulders and a kind heart. I think we are all going to be okay one way or another."

Blaine smiled and kissed Kurt's nose. "I love you."

Kurt laughed. "What brought that on?"

"I love how much you care and all that you are doing for people who... who use to be like enemies to you."

"The people in the WG cities were never the Rebels' enemies, not most of them at least. I see that know. They were just... you were all just people living without freedom, without..."

"Music." Blaine said. "You're my music now you know." He said he arms warm and strong around Kurt's back.

"You're mine too."

They stayed like that a while until Kurt could feel his stomach start to growl. He looked at the food on the counter. "What are we making?" He asked. "And what can I do to help?"

"You could finish chopping the vegetables for the salsa." He answered. "We are having... having..." He shook his head the word slipping away from him.

Blaine was doing so well, but he still sometimes forgets a word here and there. Dr. Howell said it wasn't anything to worry about and that he had improved so much that he believes it will go away eventually.

Kurt waited patiently for Blaine to find the word again.

"We are having fajitas." Blaine finally said with a small smile.

"Oh god yes." Kurt practically moaned. "You know I love fajitas."

Blaine laughed. "Yeah. I noticed."

They worked together to make dinner and shared little touches and pecks as they moved together around the kitchen.

"Now that the campaign is over, we could actually start planning."

"Planning?" Blaine asked lifting his eyebrows.

"You know that whole wedding thing." Kurt said teasingly.

"Oh that. As if you haven't already started planning."

Kurt bumped Blaine's hip with his own scooting him over so that he could take over grilling the chicken. "Maybe a little."

Soon though Kurt found himself stopping and staring at Blaine from time to time. Still amazed that his life had turned out this way. The World Government was gone, the Leaders long gone, and here he was living in a big city with the man he loved, the man he was going to marry.

"You're doing it again." Blaine said.

"Doing what?" Kurt asked innocently.

"That thing were you get all misty eyed and stare at me."

"I'm not 'misty eyed'."

"Sure." Blaine said with a little smirk.

"I'm just thinking about how lucky I am and how happy you make me."

Blaine blushed and ducked his head a little before he stepped away from the salsa he was making to plant a sweet kiss on Kurt's lips.

"You make me happy too. I can't wait to marry you."

Kurt curled his fingers in the curls at the nape of Blaine's neck and kissed him deeply. "I can't wait to marry you." He breathed into Blaine's lips as they again forgot dinner for a moment and just enjoyed the freedom of loving each other.
