The cast was rehearsing their lines one last time before they broke for lunch.
"Alright everyone! That sounded pretty good. Two hours for lunch. Do not be late! You're excused!" the director called from the middle of the auditorium.
Kurt usually went to lunch on his own. He loved being around people, but he liked a quick break in the middle of the day from all of the drama and craziness that came with the cast of a musical.
He figured he could just find a cafe and have something to drink.
He had only walked for about two minutes when he came across a tiny coffee shop, with a small, wooden sign hanging over it that read "Anderson's Coffee". It had a paper in the window saying that there was free Wifi, so it would do.
When Kurt opened the door, chimes rang and a man with slicked down, dark hair behind the counter looked up.
"Welcome to Anderson's Coffee!" the man smiled a toothy grin.
Kurt smiled back and looked around. There was a leather loveseat couch, three two-person tables, and a four-person table. Two people on laptops were sitting together on the couch. The place was small. Quaint. Cute. And so was the man behind the counter.
"What can I do you for?" the man asked as Kurt appraoched the register.
"I've actually never been here before."
"I didn't think so! I usually recognize returning customers. So, you can look at the menu, or you can order whatever your favorite drink is from any other coffee shop. I'll make it quicker and I'll make it better."
"That's quite a claim! But I'll take you up on that offer. I'd like a nonfat mocha, please."
"Ooh, good choice, that will be one sixty two," Kurt handed the man his card, "Thank you," he said as he handed it back, "and I'll be right out with your drink. Have a seat!" he walked into a wide opening that obviously led to the back of the shop.
Kurt sat at a small table, taking out his laptop and his script.
"Okey-dokey, here we are! One, nonfat mocha," the clerk placed the drink on the table.
"Thank you, it looks awesome!" Kurt thought his praise would've been enough for the man, but he kept standing there, "Um, I'm sorry, can I help you?"
"I like to see new customers' faces when they try a drink for the first time."
Kurt giggled, a little uncomfortable and suddenly self conscious as the surprisingly short, toned man stood there, and took a sip of the mocha.
"Omygod that is GOOD."
"Yeah! I told you, didn't I?" the man asked, bouncing on the balls of his feet, "I'm Blaine, by the way. Blaine Anderson."
"So this is your place, then?"
"Yep, this little shop is my pride and joy. Your name?"
"Oh, sorry!" Kurt set his drink down quickly, extending his arm to shake hands with Blaine, "I'm Kurt. I work with Casey's Theater Company."
"The shows over there are fantastic! I already bought my ticket for opening night of Mary Poppins. Are you in the cast?" Blaine sat down across from Kurt at the table.
"You, sir, are looking at Bert."
Blaine's eyes were wide, "Wow! That's awesome!"
"Yeah, it's really exciting," Kurt forced a smile on his face.
"You don't seem very excited."
Kurt was confused at this stranger's interest. Strangers were rarely interested in him. And handsome strangers were never interested in him.
"I just, I like to be the lead. Hell, what actor doesn't? It's usually the males that get the lead, so I thought that for this show, it'd finally be my time to shine. But as it turns out, it's a female lead this season. Just my luck," Kurt rolled his eyes.
"Hey, Bert is a great role! Everyone loves Bert! And between you and I," Blaine leaned forward, making Kurt get a whiff of the strong scent of coffee beans on him, "Bert was always my favorite character. He's much more exciting than wrinkly old Mary."
Kurt shook his head and laughed, "Yeah, yeah, okay. Lie to make me feel better."
"No, I'm serious!" Blaine was laughing, too, his eyes bright with happiness, "It's a great role! And you know what? With a smile like that I think you'll have no problem becoming the next Broadway heart throb."
Kurt's eyebrows shot up, "Wow, thank you."
"I've got to get back to business. Sorry to interrupt you, Kurt," Blaine stood from the chair.
"No, don't worry! It was really nice to meet you."
"You too. Enjoy your coffee," Blaine headed back to the kitchen.
Yep, Kurt thought, he has a nice ass, too. Great. A crush on the boy from the coffee shop.
He admired the man's style. A crisp, plaid button down and a solid colored bowtie paired with dark, slim jeans and oxfords.
And he had the personality to match the adorable clothes he wore.
With the thoughts of Blaine's kindness and what number they were to be rehearsing next, Kurt started moving toward the door.
"Have a great day! I really hope to see you back here some time!" Blaine called out.
Kurt smiled in Blaine's direction, giving him a curt nod of his head, "See you soon."

And so Kurt kept his word. The coffee was delicious and cheap, and the atmosphere in the little shop was perfect, so it was the obvious choice.
"Ah, back so soon?" Blaine had a playful grin on his lips.
Today, Kurt noticed, the place was empty besides the two boys.
"I don't think I can resist. I'd like a nonfat mocha, please." Kurt held out his card before Blaine read off the price.
"Go ahead and take a seat. Your drink will be out soon."
Kurt plopped down on the left-side cushion on the couch, bringing his feet up to tuck his legs to the side.
"I added some extra whip cream, I hope you don't mind," Blaine placed the drink on the small wooden table that sat next to the couch.
"Ooh, not at all," he took a sip, and sighed in delight, "Even better than last time."
"Thanks!" Blaine said cheerfully as he retreated to the counter, "Do you mind if I put on some music?"
"That's fine."
Blaine turned on a station that played "Yesterday's AND today's BIGGEST HITS!"
"Is this alright?"
"Perfect," Kurt answered, not really talking about the music anymore.
Kurt heard Blaine shuffling around in the back for a few minutes before he emerged with a tall cup in his hand.
"Do you mind if I sit with you?" Blaine's thick brows were furrowed with his question.
"Not at all, here," Kurt tried to stay calm, and moved his bag from the cushion he wasn't using, "there's enough room for both of us."
They sat in silence for a few moments, "So, do you always befriend your customers?"
Blaine's cheeks became prickled with red spots, "Ah, you know, sometimes," he paused, "only the ones that are actually willing to make conversation with me."
Kurt let out a quick laugh.
"Do you always let coffee shop owners befriend you?"
"Hmm," Kurt let his eyes wander, "only the ones that are charming enough to win my attention."
Blaine's wide smile was at the side of his mouth, "Charming, huh? I like that."
It was a few minutes of silence until Kurt spoke, "I've got to head back, but, uh, I think-I think I'll be back tomorrow," he stood up and Blaine followed his action.
"Yeah, yeah, come back soon, please! It was great to see you again. Have a good day!"
"You too," Kurt smiled and walked out of the shop, his heart fluttering.
He figured that bowties were a signature of Blaines. A very endearing signature, indeed.

"Why don't you ever come out to lunch with us, Kurt?" Jane (or, Mary Poppins, as Kurt referred to her in his own head) asked the next day.
"I just like a break, that's all. You know I love you guys. But if I went to lunch with you, that would be seven straight hours with you five days a week."
"Well, if you ever want some company, don't be afraid to join us." Frank (Mr. Banks) added.
"Thanks. I'll see you guys in a few hours."
Kurt hurried to Anderson's Coffee, excited to have his daily caffeine fix and, yes, to see Blaine.
"Hello, Kurt! Hope you weren't too cold walking over here, it's a little chilly today!" Blaine was peeking out from behind the wall, busy making an order, though all of the people occupying the chairs already had mugs and cups in their hands.
"That's what these gloves are so useful for!" Kurt shook his hands in front of himself, "Nonfat mocha with extra whi-"
"Extra whip, here you go! That will be one sixty two."
Kurt was in shock, he was trying to reach for his card but he was incapable of moving his arms, "You know my coffee order?"
"What type of friend would I be if I didn't know your coffee order?"
Kurt could only manage a small smile in response, finally finding control of his muscles enough to pay and then sit down at one of the small tables.
An hour later, the last of the other customers in the cafe had cleared out, and Blaine moved around the counter and sat down across from Kurt.
He was looking at his hands on the table, "I hope you don't mind me sitting here. Or when I sat with you yesterday. I don't want to bother you."
"It'd be blatantly obvious if I was annoyed with you, Blaine. Please don't feel like you're annoying me. Actually, talking to you is pretty refreshing after being surrounded by the cast and crew. Not that I don't love them, but its good to get a breath of fresh air."
"I just wanted to make sure."
"I was just...Why don't you act like this with all of your other customers, though? Im just curious," Kurt immediately wished he could take that back.
"I said yesterday! You were nice enough to make conversation. I think that you seemed like a really nice guy!"
Blaine might as well have said 'dude', because Kurt had just been friend-zoned, "Oh," Kurt smiled, his lips taught with displeasure.
But Blaine smiled back, his teeth gleaming white and his eyes wide, oblivious to Kurt's disappointment.
"It's time for me to get back to rehearsal."
"Oh, right! Have fun. See you soon?"
"Yeah," Kurt responded, this time his smile was genuine.

Thursday and Friday were the same routine.
Kurt came into Anderson's, his coffee ready on the counter, still hot and steaming, when he arrived.
Kurt was forming a crush. It had only been a few days, but he figured that, if he dropped enough hints, Blaine might get the idea.
"I don't have rehearsal on Saturday and Sunday," Kurt tried to be nonchalant.
"Enjoy your time relaxing, then! Rehearsal seems pretty tiring."
Seriously? "Yeah, I'll see you on Monday, Blaine."
"Do you not live around here?" Blaine was wiping a table clean and Kurt was standing beside him.
"I just live a few blocks over."
Blaine craned his neck around to look at Kurt, "Then why won't you see me on Saturday or Sunday?"
"I..." Kurt wasn't sure how to respond.
Blaine laughed, a deep delightful sound in Kurt's ears, "I'm kidding! Don't worry about it! I do put out awesome desserts on Sunday evenings, though. Homemade."
"Well, I guess I could stop by to check those out."
"See you Sunday?" Blaine's eyes crinkled up in his smile.
Kurt headed toward the door, throwing one more glance over his shoulder.
"See you Sunday."
