“How’d she take it?” Blaine asked, watching him through the Skype window with his one good eye.

“How do you think she took it?” Kurt muttered. “She shouted and cried and I’m probably lucky she didn’t have me shanghaied.”

“Yikes,” Blaine murmured. “I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I asked you to do this.”

“No,” Kurt replied. “It’s mine. I could have told her when I applied, but I didn’t.” He sighed. “It didn’t help that she hasn’t gotten her NYADA letter yet.”

“Oh, no,” Blaine sympathized.

“Yeah,” Kurt said. “So it could just be me and you in New York next year.”

“Not that I’m opposed to that, but…” Blaine told him. “New York is your dream, yours and Rachel’s and I’m just tagging along in it.”

“Blaine, you’re not tagging along,” Kurt denied. “You’re a big part of my dream. We’re starting a life together. That’s completely different.” He frowned. “Can we change the subject?”

“Sure,” Blaine agreed.

“How was your doctor’s appointment?” Kurt wanted to know.

“Fine,” Blaine answered. “He says the swelling’s going down a little. Another week or so in the eye patch and then they’ll test my vision.”

“That’s after Valentine’s Day,” Kurt lamented.

“I know,” Blaine murmured. “I had plans of coming in and surprising you, but it’s not going to happen now.”

“We’ll just… we’ll Skype and watch a romantic movie together.” Kurt suggested.

“That sounds good,” Blaine agreed, but his words sounded hollow. Kurt knew it was because he wanted to be here in person, and if Kurt was honest, he wanted to see Blaine too. It sucked that they were once again victims of circumstance and would not be spending the holiday together for a second time.

Conversation slipped into, once again, what song Kurt could do for his auditions before Kurt finally let Blaine go.

“Rachel will come around,” Blaine said. “She’s one of your best friends. She’ll understand about UDACA.”

“I hope so,” Kurt sighed again. They exchanged “I love you’s” and then Kurt exited out of the program, his computer screen going to the desktop.

He should be excited – Blaine was okay and he was possible getting into one or two really great colleges. Instead, Kurt was just depressed.

The week leading up to Valentine’s Day kind of sucked, in Kurt’s opinion. Sure, he had a boyfriend, but just like last year, he wouldn’t be seeing him on the holiday. In the meantime, he had to deal with Rachel’s silent treatment and the multitude of kissing couples at McKinley high. Brittany and Santana had taken just about every moment to make out in the hallways, surpassing even Finn and Rachel for the amount of time their lips were locked together. Some new kid had joined Quinn, Mercedes and Sam (the latter two who were still dancing around each other, and had been since Sam had come back from Kentucky before Christmas), and they were serenading anyone for ten dollars. It was for a good cause, but Kurt didn’t have any one to have them sing to or get a song from. On top of all of that, Rachel and Finn chose to announce their engagement as well, and Kurt had to deal with both of them and their utter stupidity on the matter – it didn’t do any more to endear him to Rachel either.

He missed Blaine.

His one bright spot in every day was proving to be when he got his special delivery. So far he’d gotten a few cards, some small gifts and even a balloon arrangement from a guy dressed in a gorilla suit. They were all signed “Your Secret Admirer” and had cutesy little sayings on them and Kurt just knew they were all from Blaine.

It was such a Blaine thing to do.

Sugar Motta, one of the new girls in New Directions (since the Troubletones had joined them) was planning a Valentine’s Day party with a “no singles allowed” dispensation – which she’d exempted Kurt from, because Blaine was in another state. He still wasn’t quite sure how to take her, but it was clear that Artie and Rory were smitten with her.

He told Blaine about the party but then wished he hadn’t when the both of them ended up depressed.

“I wish I could be there,” Blaine replied. “I’m just… I’m tired of missing out on your life, Kurt.”

“I know,” Kurt said. “But there are only a few more months of school and then we’ll be together.”

“I’m counting down the days,” Blaine told him. “Have you heard back about your auditions yet?”

“Not yet,” Kurt answered. “I’m sort of hoping that’s because they haven’t sent out all the letters yet.”

“Rachel still hasn’t gotten hers?” Blaine asked. Kurt shook his head.

“Nope,” Kurt sighed. He almost mentioned the cards and gifts but something held him back. Momentary doubt, because what if they weren’t from Blaine? He pushed that thought away.

Things came to a head on Valentine’s Day.

Rachel got her NYADA letter and the shrieking they did in the middle of the hallway nearly got them hauled into Coach Sylvester’s office because they offended her with their happiness. He also got a final valentine from his admirer, asking to meet him for an early dinner. Kurt bounced excitedly.

It had to be from Blaine. Blaine must have found a way to get to Ohio and surprise him and Kurt nearly danced his way through the rest of the day in his excitement. He bragged about it to all the girls in-between talking about New York plans with Rachel.

When he got home from school, he raced to get ready and get to Breadstix early.

This was going to be the best Valentine’s Day ever.

“Oh, Kurt,” Rachel said, sitting down next to him. Sugar’s party was in full swing and Kurt had been sitting there since he’d met up with his secret admirer earlier.

His admirer had not been Blaine.

No, his admirer had been someone he hadn’t seen in months, not since last year’s prom and the Prom Queen nightmare.

Kurt’s secret admirer had been none other than Dave Karofsky.

Thanks to his shock, Kurt felt like he’d handled it badly. Dave had just laid it all out on the table and all Kurt had been able to tell him was that it was never going to happen.

Hurt and upset, Dave had stormed off and Kurt had been left sitting there.

“Are you okay?” Rachel asked. Kurt nodded.

“I think I’m just… going to go home,” Kurt muttered, sliding his chair back. Sugar got up on the stage, introduced herself and then said she had a surprise. Kurt paused, waiting to see what it was (though nothing would be making this night better, in his eyes anyway).

“And now…” Sugar was clearly reveling in all the attention she was getting. “Here he is, back from the dead and as cute and compact as ever!” Sugar called, pointing to a figure near the door with his back to the crowd.

The man whirled around, smiling. “Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody!” he exclaimed, and Kurt gasped.

It was Blaine.

Okay, so you guys all know by now that I go to school with Kurt. Well, I got invited to a party for Valentine’s Day and Kurt was there and you’ll never guess what happened. BLAINE SHOWED UP AND THEY SANG TOGETHER AND IT WAS AMAZING OMG.

He ripped the eye patch off and then danced around the room and he and Kurt flirted the whole song and omg, I’m drowning in feels.

“You planned this,” Kurt accused in a delighted and breathy voice. Blaine grinned.

“Of course I did!” he exclaimed. “I had to get you something for Valentine’s Day.”

“Seriously, someone needs to pinch me and make sure I’m not dreaming,” Kurt replied, still wide eyed and staring at him in shock, even though they’d just sung with each other in front of most of McKinley High.

“How about I just do this?” Blaine murmured, pulling him close and kissing him soundly in the middle of the dance floor. He didn’t care who was watching.

“Okay,” Kurt exhaled loudly, his eyes still closed as they pulled away. “I believe it now.” Blaine laughed, twirling Kurt suddenly in time to the song that was playing.

Kurt laughed too. Blaine couldn’t believe it had all worked out so well. He was in Ohio, with Kurt on Valentine’s Day and they’d sung together.

It was perfect.

“How long are you here?” Kurt asked when Blaine pulled him close again.

“Tonight,” Blaine answered, trying not to let it get him down. Dalton was ready to go back into production any time, and Blaine had to be available. It was just a stroke of luck that they hadn’t already.

Kurt stopped moving, staring at him intently. “Let’s get out of here then.”

“Lead the way,” Blaine agreed, and he let Kurt pull him to the door. They disappeared out into the night.
