Kurt tried to move on. He really did. But Blaine Anderson was one for lingering glances, stunning gazes and encouraging smiles. Kurt would be lying to himself if he said he wasn't swooning the second he met this boy and serenaded him 'Teenage Dream.' As hard as Kurt tried to get over his feelings for Blaine, they only intensified. It was as if the world was working against him to make him suffer for some ungodly reason he could not place.

Blaine was his best friend and they did absolutely everything together, yet he still held some sense of mystery with a hint of juvenile. The first time Kurt ever saw Blaine's true vulnerability was when he serenaded Jeremiah at the GAP and had subsequently turned the singing dreamboat down. It was then Kurt realized Blaine was just like him, trying to find somebody he could love in the world, but he was just as lost. But Blaine didn't choose to be with Kurt. Even though Kurt was deeply hurt and spent many nights mulling over every possible explanation for Blaine's playful, "Don't they get together in the end?" things only seemed to turn worse in his favor.

No less than a few weeks later Finn invited him and Blaine to Rachel's Houseparty Trainwreck Extravaganza for reasons unknown but Kurt suspected that Finn was feeling the need to have a little brotherly companionship. Kurt jumped right to it because he missed his friends and all their drama, so he ended up mostly trying to convince Finn to get back with Rachel the whole night as they were the two only sober ones while Blaine got increasingly more drunk.

Out of spite, naturally since Finn was such a stick in the mud Rachel initiated a game of spin the bottle which ended up being a disaster of epic proportions, depending on who you talked to. When Rachel spun on her turn it landed on Finn and they ended up making out in front of everybody, but Kurt was at least glad he wasn't going to get an ear-full of complaints anymore. It was like the never-ending story.

On Quinn's turn, after an encouraging look from her boyfriend Sam, she spun and it landed on Blaine, and Kurt couldn't help but laugh out loud. An interesting combination in his opinion but once the two locked lips, Kurt wasn't laughing anymore. Blaine was hesitantly kissing at first, as if it was some sort of science experiment, but as Quinn's plump lips moved against his, something changed in Blaine's face and he ended up cupping her cheek and kissing her so passionately it made Kurt's heart backflip.

Quinn pulled away with an indifferent look on her face, while Sam jumped in to claim his territory and kissed her with much enthusiasm. Blaine wasn't really paying attention to them, but he slumped backward into Kurt's shoulder, tracing his finger along his lips with a look of wonder crossing his expression.

The next day was a little more silent than normal over their coffee, and Blaine was fidgeting with his sugar packet for much too long, his eyebrows furrowed in deep thought. Kurt had to awkwardly explain that morning why Blaine was in his bed since he needed reminding of the night's previous events, and due to Blaine's youth and an excessive amount of water he was able to go out with Kurt like any other day without a hangover and most memories intact. But it wasn't like any other day.

"Kurt," Blaine began hesitantly, a question in his voice. "Do you think it was a little too haste of me to come out as early as middle school?"

Kurt's heart constricted. Blaine never liked to talk about his past school experiences with bullying, but Kurt knew they were there. So he proceeded with caution. "What do you mean, Blaine?"

"I mean," Blaine trailed off, eyes avoiding Kurt until the last part of his sentence was delivered. "I don't think I gave girls a good go before I decided I only liked boys."

"What!?" Kurt really hadn't expected this. "What makes you say that?"

"Last night," Blaine said slowly with a prompt of his expressive eyebrows. "I kissed Quinn."

"Yes," Kurt said patiently. "You were drunk."

"I know, but it made me feel things-"

"Feel what things exactly?" Kurt cut in testily. He honestly couldn't believe this was happening. Blaine was a mentor of sorts, someone he could look up to for inspiration on being out and proud. Now this? Really?

"Things I never felt before," Blaine let out, like it was heavy in his chest. "Things about girls I never felt before."

"That's because you were intoxicated," Kurt insisted, his teeth grit together and grinding in frustration.

"I may have been Kurt," Blaine sounded like he was starting to get angry. "But I had never kissed a girl before that. Sure, they never caught my attention before, but they definitely have it now. Especially Quinn."

A dopey little lovesick puppy look crossed Blaine's face and it made Kurt absolutely furious. "Are you serious right now? You really think you're bisexual Blaine? After one hazy kiss with a beautiful girl? Who has a boyfriend no less!"

Blaine looked taken aback by Kurt's outburst. "What's your problem?"

"My problem is that I look up to you Blaine! I admire how proud you are of who you are, and now you are tip-toeing back into the closet!"

Blaine glared. "I'm not one someone should look up to. I'm not like you Kurt, I'm not as sure about who I am as you are. I've always envied that about you, and so that's why I thought you of all people wouldn't get down on me for this! You're my best friend!"

Kurt felt like he was going to cry. "I can't believe I'm hearing this right now. I've been there, Blaine. I had a phase were I thought I should try girls because I never had before. I was 'dating' the most popular girl and school, but you know what? I didn't feel a thing! Because I knew I was lying to myself in my heart of hearts."

But Blaine already knew this. Blaine knew of Kurt's desperation to seek his father's approval by kissing Brittany and dressing differently no less than a year ago. Kurt had explained when they first met after Karofsky had attacked-kissed him because Kurt had clarified he had never been kissed, 'or at least when it counted.'

"Well I'm not you Kurt," Blaine validated, getting to his feet and grabbing his things. "I thought you would be more understanding about this, because maybe I needed you! Did you ever think about that?"

And with that Blaine was gone.

End Notes: this literally came to me in a dream and I have lots of shenanigans that will unfold! Let me know what you think so far :)
