The man was taller than both Kurt and Blaine with medium-length dark hair and bright blue eyes. Dirt was smeared across his face, but there was no mistake that in some odd way, he was related to Blaine. His face was full of disbelief. Who was he?
Kurt looked at Blaine and saw a mirrored expression. The two looked similar. Really similar. It then kicked into Kurt's mind that the man was Blaine's brother, Cooper.
"You're...you're alive?"
"You're Cooper?" Kurt asked.
Cooper looked over at Kurt and nodded. "What's wrong with him? Why isn't he speaking?"
He doesn't know that Blaine's an Avox, Kurt thought to himself. Blaine let out a furstrated whimper. Kurt grabbed his arm for reassurance.
"You don't know what they did to Blaine, do you?" Kurt questioned even though the answer was obvious.
Cooper shook his head 'no'.
"Blaine was turned into an Avox," Kurt replied. Cooper gave him a questioning look, so Kurt knew he had to describe further though he would rather not. A part of him had hoped that he never had to go back to that conversation ever again. "The Capitol took him away, cut his tongue out to mute him, and turned him into a servant." Kurt had a hard time explaining. He was slow at doing so and his voice was shaky.
Coopers eyes widened all the more as he put a hand over his mouth. "Oh my God," he said as he hurried over and wrapped his arms around his little brother. Kurt stepped away to give them their space.
Blaine let out a sob and hugged his brother close. After a long moment of hugging, Cooper pulled back and looked at Kurt.
"So what are you, his translator or..."
Kurt was honest. He had no reason not to be. "Was his master, but now just his boyfrend."
Cooper's eyes flashed with realizaton. "Oh. Oh!" He nodded his head in understanding. "Okay...so what are you guys doing here?" he then questioned.
"Well as you probably already know, Katniss took down the wall of the arena. So they ended up bombing District 12 and8."
Cooper looked suddenly saddened. "Yeah...I heard. Those poor people. But I don't get it. What has that got to do with you two?"
"I'm from District 8. They issued an arrest for me. So...we escaped...and Blaine wanted to see if anyone from his family was still here."
"Oh wow. Gosh, that's sad to hear. Well, will you at least be able to stop for a moment at our house? Mom and Dad will probably want to know that Blaine's alive."
The paper was rough and old, but it was still something to write on. And the pencil may be old and dense, but it was still something to write with. Blaine had written down what had happened to him, how Blaine was saved by kurt, and how he saved Kurt in return. He even included how much he really missed his family and how happy he was that they were still alive.
There had been many tears shed, embraces, and many thank-you's Kurt had recieved and witnessed. The only time Kurt had seen Blaine this happy was when Blaine finally showed Kurt he loved him and Kurt had instantly responded in the best possible way. It made Kurt's heart flutter with joy to see the one he loved happy.
The Andersons (Kurt found out that that was Blaine's last name) had given some extra food and other supplies before it was time for Kurt and Blaine to leave for the track that would lead into the forest. They needed to find some place to stay. Some place safe. Where that was, Kurt and Blaine wouldn't know until...well, until they would know. it was simple to get past the Peacekeepers there. It seemed like they cared less since Blaine's time here as one of the citizens.
It felt like Kurt and Blaine had been walking all day. The sun was beginning to set and the air was slightly, bitterly cold. Their water containers had gone empty three times and when they were empty, it took anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to find water so that they would wait another hour to make sure that the water was completely purified from the purification doplets that they put in their water.
Kurt was fully aware of the fact that Blaine's footsteps had stopped behind him. He stopped and turned around to see what the problem was. Blaine was leaning against the nearest tree, panting. Sweat lightly glistened on his forehead, causing his dampened curls to stick to his forehead.
Kurt sighed, letting himself relax slightly. "Alright. We'll camp here for the night," Kurt murmured. Blaine nodded his head as he sat his backpack to the ground lightly. Kurt did the same. Kurt and Blaine worked together to create a fire. After the fire had been burning for a while, they finally ate. Apples and greenbeans. After that, they worked together to create a tent-ike canopy. In the rest of the setting sun, Kurt and Blaine laud down under the canopy and just looked at each other. Kurt could read Blaine's expression easily. Where do you think we are?
"We're probably somwhere between District 5 and 10," Kurt told him.
Blaine looked shocked. "I don't know," Kurt confessed, pressing a soft kiss to Blaine's lips.
Blaine let out a sigh and rested his head on Kurt's chest as they soon fell asleep.
Kurt woke with Blaine nudging his shoulder. Kurt blinked and sat up. Blaine pointed to the sky, which showed a dark cloud and the sound of lightening approaching them.
"Pack up. We need to get as far as we can today before we get caught in the storm," said Kurt. Blaine packed up the blankets and supplies as Kurt destroyed as much as he could of the evidence that they were there.
Within ten minutes, they were back on their trail at a fast pace. And then after two hours, the rain had caught up with them, pouring down lightly. It wasn't long until the rain hardened, a clash of thunder closer than before.
"We need to find shelter soon," Kurt said just they came to a clearing.
The remains of District 5.
Kurt eyed the buildings blown into pieces just when he saw a building with nothing wrong with it but a bit less than half of its roof blown off and all of the windows gone. It'll have to do, Kurt thought as he looked at Blaine and motioned towards the building. Blaine nodded and followed Kurt in a fast sprint. They got to the building in time. The thunder and the lightening had caught up to them.
Kurt and Blaine huddled up together in the dryest corner of the building, wrapped in one blanket.
When the storm was over, Kurt and Blaine packed the blanket and hurried back to their feet. They were out of the clearing sooner than they thought.
They walked for about two more hours, with a short stop for water and a snack every now and then. They walked another two hours until they heard a strange noise coming from the sky. it sounded like something thrashing hard against the air and wind. It was followed by a rustle of the tree trops somewhere in the distance.
"Huh?" Blaine murmured.
Kurt furrowed his eyebrows and looked in the direction that the noise was coming from. "What's that noise?"
