New York
"So, you have everything?" Danny asked putting his hands on his hips and examining each of the suitcases."Oh! Did you remember the Gucci scarf you got last fall? It will be cold in Lima, I checked the weather so-"
"You checked the weather?" Kurt asked incredulously. How could he get such a perfect boyfriend?
"Of course I did." He responded blatantly and slightly confused at why Kurt was shocked. "Also don't forget to pack the sleeping pills because we both know how much trouble you have getting to sleep at night." Danny reminded and put his hand up like he was trying to figure something out. "Oh, thats it! I also needed to tell you that Jan from the office wanted to get lunch sometime if your up for it."
"Okay, I'd love to." Kurt knew how his boyfriend always got before a trip. It was adorable how caring and domestic he was, but he always seemed slightly worried and nervous. "Is everything alright?" He inquired gently sitting on their bed and patting to the space next to him.
"Yeah, I'm just making sure you have everything you need." He sat down and slowly kissed Kurt's lips, taking in the moment. He would miss this so much. When they pulled away, Kurt's pink lips were plump and slightly swollen. He tilted their foreheads together and gingerly caressed Kurt's hair.
"Danny. I have everything I need. You are too good for me." Kurt cupped his cheek and stared into his dreamy eyes. "I love you so much." It was hard saying goodbye to Danny. Even if it was just for a few days.
"I love you too." Millions of questions rampaged through his mind. What if Kurt wouldn't want to leave Lima? What if he meets someone else? Kurt meant everything to Danny and he wasn't about to let him go. "You need anything and I'll be there."
"I know." He half-smiled and stood up while taking Danny's hands and helping him stand. Kurt leaned over and zipped up each of his three Louis Vuitton suitcases . "There." He moved them all of the bed and set them down lightly.
"God, you look amazing." Danny said as if he realized it for the first time and examining his boyfriend's features that were accented perfectly.
Kurt put a hand over his heart and made a face full of false hurt. "I don't always look amazing?"
"Of course you do." Danny laughed and hugged him close. "But its not everyday I see you in black converse, tight blue skinny jeans, and just a plain white V-neck." He reassured. It was true though, Kurt always dressed as if he were on the runway, which is why almost every magazine referred to him as the most fashionable person.
"True." They stood close for a few more seconds before Kurt pulled away and broke the silence. "I should probably get going if I don't want to miss my flight."
"Yeah." Danny whispered and fought back the tears forming in his eyes and Kurt pulled all of his luggage into the elevator. "Call me when you get there."
"I will." Kurt leaned in for one final goodbye kiss and pulled away slowly. "Its only a few days, i'll be home soon."
Kurt Hummel hated planes. The first time he flew was when he was travelling with his glee club to Nationals in New York. It all seemed so exciting then. But now, being a world famous fashion icon meant that he left the country at least eight times a year and that was certainly enough. He would often get very sick and snappy whenever people approached him. Something about flying just made him stomach feel uneasy.
After passing through security and checking his luggage (constantly reminding the staff that his bags needed to be handled with great care at risk of ruining the material. But of course, they tossed it onto the conveyer without a second thought.) Now, Kurt roamed around looking for a food bar that didn't have the words "fried" written all over it.
After discovering a small food cart that sold yogurt parfaits and granola cups, Kurt eagerly got one of each and ordered a nonfat Mocha latte.
"Excuse me?" A young girl asked, she had to be about sixteen or seventeen. She seemed to be shaking and broadly smiling. He knew where this was going. Usually a pair of sunglasses and casual clothing was enough to disguise himself and not draw any attention"Are you Kurt Hummel?"
"Yes, but please try and keep it down, I don't need the whole airport asking for autographs." He responded quietly but firmly and looked around to make sure nobody heard. The last time he was here a group of teenagers tackled him and he got security to escort him to his gate.
But, of course, she didn't hear him. An ear splitting scream rang throughout the halls and anybody would have thought she was watching her beloved pet get killed. "OhmygodOhmyfuckinggod!"She yelled and screeched with excitement while jumping up in down in place. "I cant believe it, your like my idol!" She lunged at him and held his waist tightly. "Can I have a picture please, please, please?" She clasped her hands together and held her breath. They were starting to attract a crowd.
"Fine, but i'm not taking my sunglasses off." It was times like these when Kurt was reminded that he should get a private plane. Such situations could easily be averted.
After she took several hundred and repeatedly tapping her screen, she pulled a black sharpie out of her bag and begged him to sign her belongings.
Great, he thought, this was going to be a long day.
"Thank you for joining us today. Please fasten your seat belts and in several minutes we will depart for Ohio."
Back home. Kurt thought as he pulled the belt over himself and stared out his window to look at the airport. Six years. He was finally going returning. His emotions were on high. He was nervous, terrified, reluctant, but a little part of him was excited. He wanted to see everyone again. Why had it taken him six years to realize this? But he wasn't going to let that show because no matter, what happened at that New Years Party six years ago never left him.
"Ten!" The countdown began.
"Nine!" The group raised their glasses to one another.
"Eight!" They shouted more ferociously than before.
"Seven!" They giggled, the new year was close.
"Six!" They were interrupted by loud shouting voices in the hall. Most resumed their countdowns and laughing, but some pulled away to see what was going on.
"Dammit Kurt!" Now the small crowd could see what was happening. Burt was yelling at a sobbing Kurt who was repeatedly apologizing.
"Dad i'm so sorry!"
"I don't care! You never think and now were all stuck in this mess. Just leave me alone Kurt!"
"Fine." It was a whisper, but it meant more than anything else. He held the door handle and took a breath of fresh air as the winter night chilled him.
"You walk out that door, then you don't come back." Burt was crying too now. The small group of people turned into a rather large crowd. Who were all confused and anxiously awaiting what Kurt would do.
No words were spoken, but Kurt's actions would determine who he was. Taking a long look at everything in his house, as if to try and memorize it, he smiled softly and told his dad he loved him before closing the door behind him.
Walking into that cold night was the hardest thing he had ever done. Maybe he let his pride get the best of him. But when he heard fireworks shooting of in the distance and voices from his home yelling, "Happy new year!" He ran. He wasn't sure for how long, it could have been hours, but he just ran. Maybe that was his biggest regret of all.
