I’m Here for You
"Hey, how is my little angel?" Kurt teased as he walked up to Blaine who was getting books out of his locker.
"Fine." Blaine replied quickly.
"Hey, what’s wrong?" said Kurt suddenly interested. He touched Blaine’s arm but Blaine pulled his arm away.
"I-I'm fine" said Blaine, his voice wobbling.
"No, I’m serious. Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, for god’s sake!" Blaine snapped. He began to walk down the hall with his head down.
"Oh, k then." Kurt replied quietly.
Blaine looked up at him. Tears were coursing down his beautiful face. He sniffed:"So-sorry for snapping at you then."
"Is everything alright, baby?" Kurt said.
Blaine lent against a locker and sank to the ground. Kurt sat beside him, stroking his shoulder.
"Hey, hey there. Don’t cry. Shh, shh." Kurt cooed.
Blaine was crying his eyes out. Kurt was stroking his cheek.
"What’s happened? Did you spill coffee on your favourite jacket?" Kurt said in a silly baby voice.
"Shut up." Blaine half whispered, half laughed.
"Well, tell me..."
Blaine took in a deep breath and looked into Kurt’s eyes."My dad came home."
Kurt stopped breathing for a second."No way. You’re joking right?"
"No. I wish I was. He- he came home last night." Blaine wiped his eyes.
"Well, where has he been all this time?"
"He was helping injured soldiers in the army. You know, operating and stuff."
Kurt took Blaine’s hand. "So, why are you so sad?" Kurt asked.
"Why do you think?" Blaine said coldly. Fresh tears began to fall down Blaine’s cheeks.
"Aw, sweetie. Don’t cry. Come here." Kurt pulled Blaine into his chest.
"It’s just, he doesn’t know about us yet." Blaine sat up.
"What?"
"Well, last time I saw him was, uh, a year ago." Blaine said in a quiet voice.
"Are you going to tell him or what?" Blaine sighed.
"Should I? I mean I want to, I really, really do. But I can’t."
"Do whatever your heart tells you." Kurt said quietly.
"Ok. I’ll tell him."
"What? Just like that? I didn’t think you'd actually listen to my advice!" Blaine laughed.
"No, no. I’m going to tell him. I love you and I think he should know it."
"Ok, I love you too. Tell me how it goes." Kurt got up and walked off to class. Blaine sighed and closed his eyes.
AT BLAINES HOUSE!
“Dad? Can we talk?” Blaine asked quietly.
“Ah, my young Taylor. Of course!” Blaine peered round the door. His father, Roger Anderson’s, face fell.
“Blaine, son. What is it?” He replied, suddenly less interested. Blaine walked into the huge library where his father was sitting reading a book.
“Um, I wanted to talk to you, about relationships.”
His dad looked up from his book over his spectacles. He smiled.“Oh, a possible girl?” Roger had a glint of hope in his eyes.
“No dad. I’m still gay, remember?”Blaine said as he watched his dad’s face fall.
Roger carried on reading his book. Blaine stood in the room very awkwardly as his dad enjoyed his “very interesting” story. Blaine cleared his throat. Roger looked up.“Oh, you’re still there. What would you like to talk about then?”
“Uh, well, while you were away, something funny happened. Something called love. I met this guy, Kurt. One day, I decided to kiss-“
“Excuse me?”
“Well…” Blaine said a little confused. His dad got up and walked over to him.
“So you’re in a relationship with this, this thing?”
“He is not a thing. He is an amazing human being.”
“Answer my question. Now.” Roger snarled.
Blaine backed away a few steps away but his dad moved closer.“Dad…” Blaine said but the words escaped his mouth very quietly.
“TELL ME!” his dad yelled at him.
“Yes-yes. Yes I am.” He whispered.
His dad suddenly grabbed hold of Blaine’s shirt collar and pushed him up against the wall. Blaine could hear his dad breathing very fast.
“Dad, dad, please... uh.” Blaine choked out.
Roger pushed Blaine to the floor and kicked him. “HOW DARE YOU! HOW DARE YOU DATE SOMEBODY WITH ME KNOWING!? YOU FAG, YOU QUEER, YOU GAY, YOU-” Blaine’s dad yelled at him while kicking him in the stomach. Every insult was like a bullet to his brain. They hurt more than the kicking did.
“Daaad! Please... ow!” Blaine cried out in pain as his dad hit him again. He could feel his mouth bleeding heavily. Roger pulled Blaine quickly to his feet and pushed him against the wall.
“GET OUT! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! YOU HAVE 2 MINUTES TO GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY HOUSE!”
Blaine ran upstairs and quickly packed his bags although he was being blinded by his tears. He shoved everything he needed in the bag; a picture of his mother, a change of clothes, his hair gel, a comb and some toothpaste and a toothbrush.
Blaine quickly ran down the stairs and raced out of the house before his father could find him. He ran down the street all the way to the end of the lane. He stopped to get his breath back and sat on his horrible rucksack, the cold wind blowing in his face.
10 minutes passed before Blaine realised people could be watching him. His car was back at the house and he was too scared to go back because of his father. He got out his phone. Who should he call? His mom was working and she wouldn’t answer her phone. His brother was out of the question. Kurt. Of course, Kurt. He dialled his number and waited. “Please pick up your phone, please. “He thought to himself.
“Hello?”
“Kurt, I’m so glad to hear your voice.”
“Blaine, is everything ok?”
“Kurt, I need you to come to the end of my road now.”
“What?”
“Just come, please. The end of Rainy Street.”
“I know where you live, Blaine. I’ll be right there.”
“Kurt?”
“Yes?”
“Thank you and I love you.”
“Oh, I love you too.”
“Bye.”
“See ya.”
Within minutes of Blaine calling Kurt, he arrived. Blaine let out a sigh of relief, sadness and happiness. Kurt parked the car and ran over to where he was standing. Blaine’s lip was bleeding, his shirt was covered in blood, his eye was black, his arms were bruised and his face was wet with tears.
“Oh my god! What the hell happened to you?” Kurt yelled out, sounding very shocked.
“Kurt, Kurt. It was horrible. I told- uhh. I can’t…” Blaine trailed off.
Kurt pulled Blaine into his arms. Blaine buried his face into Kurt’s shoulder and he inhaled. That smell, vanilla, made him feel so safe.
“Kurt,” Blaine said as they parted, “Can I stay at yours tonight?”
“Yes. “ Kurt answered immediately.
“What, just like that?”
“Yeah, my dad will understand. You can sleep in my bedroom anyway. It won’t be too much hassle.”
“Oh- ok.” Blaine answered. He got in Kurt’s car and sat down.
“Wait, Blaine. You have to tell me what happened…”
I told him. About us,” Tears were rolling down his face, “He kicked me, and punched me and shouted at me and he gave me 2 minutes to pack a bag and get out. He called you a thing. I couldn’t help myself. I’m so-“Blaine couldn’t finish his sentence.
“Ok, that’s good enough for me. Let’s go then.”
After a 3 minutes drive, they arrived at the Hummel- Hudson house. When they walked in the house, Finn and Carole were giving Blaine odd looks but Kurt just took Blaine to his room. He loved Kurt’s house, it was so warm and cosy and safe. They got into Kurt’s room and saw Burt cleaning out his room.
“Kurt, sport. What did I… oh, hello Blaine. Oh, what happened?” Burt said angrily.
“I-I, uh…” Blaine tried to speak but he couldn’t.
“Dad, I’ll tell you later. Can I ask you something in the meantime?” Kurt walked out the room with Burt following.
Blaine opened his bag and took out the picture of his mom. He looked at her beautiful face, smiling. He began to cry. His mom was the only one who accepted who has was when he came out, the only one who said goodbye when he moved to board at Dalton, the only one who didn’t give him nasty looks when he walked through the door. The only one who loved him. Tears were streaming down his face and were dripping onto his bloody collar. He was interrupted in his reflecting session to Kurt.
“Oh, hey. My dad said… what’s up? Why are you crying?” Kurt sat down beside him on his bed.
Blaine laughed a cold laugh. “I was just reflecting on how my mum is the only person who loves me in this whole family.”
“That’s not true. Taylor loves you very much.”
“It that why he told all his girl friend’s that I was free to be their gay best friend? Is that why he told all he friends that I was a fag?”
“Ok, maybe not. But your dad does.”
“Are you kidding me right now? Look what he did to me.” He pointed to his bloody lip.
“He does. He just doesn’t know how to show it. Just have courage and you will get through anything… Do you want dinner? A shower?” Kurt said with a different tone of voice.
“No, I’ll pass. I’m too nervous to eat anything. I think I’ll just go to bed.”
The time was already ten and Blaine was feeling very tired.
“Ok, just put on your pyjamas, I’ll be right up.”
Kurt gave Blaine a quick kiss on his forehead, the only clean part of him.
Blaine looked in his rucksack. Damn, he forgot pyjamas! He slowly walked down the stairs to where the family where eating.
“Kurt?” Blaine whispered. Everyone turned round to face him.
“Woah, dude. What happened to your face? You look like Kurt in the mornings!” Finn exclaimed. Kurt threw a roll of bread at his head. He got up and walked out, bringing Blaine with him.
“What’s up?” Kurt asked kindly.
“I-I forgot PJ’s.”
“Oh, um, borrow some of mine. Yeah, but not that silk ones!” Kurt joked, “But I’m serious about the PJ’s.”
Blaine smiled and walked upstairs. 20 minutes later, Blaine had already fallen asleep. Kurt walked into the room quietly. All over the room were Blaine’s clothes. Kurt quietly put on his PJ’s and got in the double bed. Blaine slowly opened his eyes, he blinked.
“Kurt.”
“Blaine. Are you ok?”
“I guess, just a bit traumatized is all?”
“Ok. Look Blaine, I know things seem bad now, but I promise you, it will get better. A whole lot better and until it does, I will always be here for you. Always.”
“Thank you Kurt. I’m lucky to have you and I know I don’t say it nearly enough.”
“It’s enough for me. I love you loads.”
“Same. But, you. Um, what?!” Blaine and Kurt laughed.
“Goodnight sweetheart.” Kurt whispered to a fast asleep Blaine.
Going to school was hardest for Blaine. He was worried about all the looks he would get. Burt and Carole asked him many times if he wanted to stay at home but he said he would much rather be distracted at school.
The drive to McKinley felt like forever.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Kurt kept asking Blaine.
“Yes, I’m sure. Stop worrying about me, I’ll be fine.”
They got out of the car and walked into McKinley. The school went silent. Everyone’s eyes were fixed on Blaine. He walked down the corridor with his head held high until he got into the glee club room.
Santana, Rory and Brittany were dancing to Puck on the guitar, Rachel was rehearsing a duet with Mercedes, Tina and Mike were kissing in the corner, Artie was on his phone and Quinn was having a huge conversation with Sam, Mr Schue and Finn. Blaine gulped. Kurt took Blaine’s hand while everyone’s eyes were on Blaine.
“Woah! What the heck happened to you!?”
“OMG!”
“What happened?
“Kurt…!”
“He is still yumalicious!”
“Gosh…”
“Oh Jesus!”
Blaine looked helplessly at Kurt. “SHUT UP!!” Kurt yelled at the top of his voice.
The whole room went very silent.“So what if Blaine looks like he’s been attacked by a wolf? So what if he looks so horrid it could make you puke? So what if he-“
“Kurt...” Blaine whispered
“Sorry. Just get over it people. Blaine was beaten up by his dad, end story. No more questions, remarks or looks otherwise I won’t be held responsible for my actions.” Kurt scowled.
The whole room was absolutely quiet. Kurt took Blaine by the hand and they sat down.
“Now, on with Sectionals…”
Blaine looked at Kurt and rested his head on his shoulder. He mouthed a ‘thank you’ to him before getting a ‘that’s ok’ back.
Blaine knew that no matter how hard his life is, he will always get through it. You know why? He has Kurt.
