Gone...Gone Forever
No Kurt or Finn at school. Blaine and Rachel sat together in the cafeteria looking worried, they glanced at the door ever few seconds just to see if either of their boyfriend's walked through the door.
"We're just over reacting!" Rachel said finally. She stood up and turned to Blaine, "This is ridiculous, it'll be nothing. Like a cold has spread through the house or something like that."
Blaine knew that Kurt would at least have bothered to text him if he just had a cold. But a slightly reassured Rachel was better than a full on panicking Rachel so he went with her idea.
"Yeah, it'll be nothing. Hey, how about we go and visit them later?" Blaine said. He tried to hide his own panic. What if there had been an accident?
"Good idea. We'll go straight there after school," Rachel smiled. Blaine could tell she was glad he had backed up her idea.
Hummel House:
Blaine knocked loudly on Kurt's door. They waited a long time before the door was opened.
Finn stood in the doorway. He stared at them for a moment. Rachel, sensing something was wrong, went straight to Finn and hugged him tight.
Blaine didn't wait to be invited in, he just squeezed past Rachel and Finn's tight embrace. He walked into the familiar sitting room.
Nobody was there.
He walked up to Kurt's bedroom. He was in there, Blaine could hear Kurt's sobs through the day. Blaine went straight in and climbed onto Kurt's bed and hugged him close. Kurt only cried harder.
Blaine watched the clock tick as ten minutes passed.
"What happened?" Blaine asked, his voice sensitive and sympathetic. "Where are your parents?"
"Dad...dad had...(sniff)...had another heart...(sniff)...heart attack. He's at...(sniff)...the hospital...(sniff)...Carole is with...(sniff)...with him."
Blaine gasped...this was the last thing he expected. For a moment he felt reassured that it hadn't been Kurt who had the heart attack but then he looked at Kurt's face again and felt the pain shoot through him. Kurt.
"I'm so sorry Kurt. I could never even begin to..." Blaine trailed off.
At the Hospital:
"We are so sorry Mrs Hummel," a young female doctor said. Kurt and Blaine could hear her as they were only steps away.
"What happened" Kurt said immediately.
"You are?" the doctor asked.
"I'm Kurt. I'm Burt Hummel's son."
"Have you got any proof of identity, your drive-"
"Shut it lady!" Finn snapped. "We need to know what happened!"
The doctor looked taken aback. "Well...I'm very sorry...it's..."
But Finn was very impatient and before the doctor could finish he grabbed Kurt's hand and walked over to his mother.
Kurt could feel his heart pumping hard against his chest. This was it...
"Kurt!" Carole jumped up. "I'm so sorry...he's...he's...he's dead."
Kurt almost fell to the ground. Blaine caught him just in time. the tears leaked out and the pain seeped through. His dad...gone...gone forever.
One week later, The Funeral:
Kurt sat in the front row of the church. Blaine was on one side, Carole on the other and Finn next to her. Kurt didn't know what to feel anymore, the rush of emotions that had come to him over the last few days was all too much for him. He let the tears drop down his pretty face but he almost forgot what they were for.
The grave was lowered into the ground, next to his mother’s grave, under the shadow of the cedar tree. Blaine was holding Kurt so he could stay upright. Kurt just wanted to crumple to the floor and die so he could be reunited with his parents.
"Kurt, we've been here for two hours. We should go," Blaine whispered in Kurt's ear.
Where had the time gone? "I don't want to go Blaine. I want to stay here," Kurt whispered back, "You can stay too."
"Kurt please come on," Blaine tried to make Kurt budge but it wasn't possible.
"I don't know why I'm still alive. Everything is gone."
"Not everything Kurt. I'm still here. And I still love you," Blaine said. He stood in front of Kurt holding his hands in his. "You are special Kurt. That's why your still here. There is nobody like you; nobody is as interesting, as unique, as beautiful, as special...”
"As gay," Kurt let out a sad laugh.
"Oh Kurt. I love you. That's why you're still here because I need someone to love."
"And you are here so I can feel like I still belong, that I am still wanted."
"Kurt, I'll always love you. And I will always want you. Always and forever."
