Bye Blaine
"Bye Blaine," Kurt said as the tears stung his eyes.
"Bye Kurt," Blaine whispered. "I...I'll...I'll see you...soon." He just couldn't let go of Kurt's hand.
"Yeah...as soon as you can." Kurt mumbled knowing that that time would not be soon enough.
"I'll miss you Kurt. I don't want to go," Blaine cried.
"I know...I...I love you Blaine..."
"I love you too Kurt. More than you'll ever know."
Two Weeks Earlier:
School:
"What's up sleepy head?" Kurt laughed chasing Blaine along the corridor.
"Hey," Blaine replied rather plainly.
"What's wrong?" Kurt instantly tuned in on his boyfriend's sadness.
"What would you do Kurt? If I left?" Blaine turned and looked up straight into Kurt's beautiful eyes.
"Cry and probably commit suicide," Kurt joked.
But Blaine gasped.
"I was joking baby, why? What's wrong?" Kurt looked concerned.
"Could we talk about this later? I really need to get home. I'll meet you at the Lima Bean at five?"
"Yeah. I'll...um...I'll suppose I'll see you there then," Kurt was still lost in his thoughts as Blaine turned and walked away. Had Blaine ever been in a rush to get home before? Kurt didn't think so. In fact, lately, Blaine avoided going home whenever he could. Shocked by the sudden change in Blaine's attitude he almost forgot to wonder why he had been so upset.
Two hours later:
Kurt walked through the Lima Bean's door at one minute to five. Assuming he was here before Blaine he walked up to the short cue that lead up to the counter.
"Kurt! I'm over here!" Kurt turned to see Blaine sitting by the window waving at him.
Glad to see that Blaine didn't seem absolutely depressed Kurt smiled and walked over to him.
"Hey Kurt," Blaine said.
"Hey," Kurt replied taking his seat.
"How are you?"
"Fine. Are you? I mean you were really upset earlier," Kurt said putting his hand out to touch Blaine's.
"Yeah I'm fine. So...how was your day?" Blaine struggled to smile.
Judging by how you looked at school, I think my day was better than yours. "It was good," Kurt could feel Blaine was hiding something.
"Same. So..." An awkward silence past between them, "Where's your jacket from? It looks great on you!"
Blaine already knew where Kurt's jacket was from. He had been wearing the same one a month ago when he had gone to Blaine's and they were playing in the snow. Kurt had given Blaine a lecture afterwards on how amazing this jacket was and that Blaine would be paying for it if, like Kurt expected, it was ruined forever.
But Kurt, being Kurt, removed his hand from Blaine's and went into a 'riveting' speech about how good the sale had been and how he didn't even think it was legal to sell things like this for 10% of their price!
"I'm moving!" Blaine blurted out just when Kurt had got to the 'good' part of listing the items he had purchased. "To Stratford...in...Canada."
Kurt was shocked. Then he felt his world sinking around him...no, not his Blaine, Blaine couldn't go...he couldn't leave him...not his Blaine.
"It's my dad's work," Blaine continued staring at the table but Kurt was barley listening anymore, "They want him for some sort of new branch development. Oh Kurt I'm so sorry."
Kurt was sinking lower. Canada, his Blaine in Canada. His special Blaine in Canada. Canada, so far out of Kurt's reach. Too far, too far, way too far...
"It's only for a year, just until things settle down and then we're coming back," Blaine said.
"But that doesn't help anything! In a year, I'll...I'll be at college! You can't go Blaine! You can't!" Kurt burst into tears.
His tears activated Blaine's. "I know," He whispered, "I know, it just isn't fair."
Blaine put his hand on Kurt's, the tears fell down their faces. They may have just sat there for hours.
The Next Day, Blaine's House:
Kurt sat on the bed staring at Blaine as he boxed precious photographs and ornaments from around his room. This room meant so much to Kurt, probably almost as much as it did to Blaine.
Surely this couldn't be happening. It just couldn't. His Blaine couldn't leave, he needed Blaine.
One hour later:
Blaine lay sleeping on his bed next to Kurt. Kurt sat there staring at his boyfriend's prefect face. It was happening, Blaine was leaving.
"I love you Blaine," Kurt whispered.
He hoped that Blaine would remember that forever.
One week later:
They stood together at the airport, Kurt would have to go soon but for now Blaine was savouring the moments. Over the last couple of weeks Kurt had meant much more to him than he ever had before. He realised that he really did need Kurt.
Kurt knew that his time with Blaine was coming to an end. He had thought that they would have the rest of his senior year together before they...they...Kurt couldn't bear to think about it anymore. It was too much. Blaine was going.
Kurt could feel Blaine holding tightly to his hand. Kurt gripped him back.
Blaine knew he had to go but his body wouldn't let him. Kurt pulled him close for one last kiss.
Kurt raised his hand to wave to Blaine as he disappeared from sight. Blaine waved back...the he was gone. Kurt let his hand touch his lips. How long would it be until he really saw Blaine again? A year? Two years? Five years? A decade? A century? Forever?
May:
June:
Knock Knock! Kurt woke from one of his endless dreams about Blaine and walked over to the front door. He was the only one home and a refreshing nap seemed in order.
Kurt had not seen Blaine for months. Or had it been years? A decade? Or had it really been forever?
Another impatient knock on the door.
"I'm coming!" Kurt yelled and looking rather annoyed he opened the door.
"Kurt!"
"Blaine! Oh my God, oh my god!" Kurt screamed at he leapt into Blaine's arms.
They stood there, wrapped in each other’s arms, for a long time before Kurt pulled Blaine inside the house.
"I don't understand. You...you should be in Canada," Kurt said barley breathing.
"The branch totally failed," Blaine was grinning broadly, "All because of my dad. Not good people skills or something. But he got transferred back! Can you believe it?"
Well I can definitely believe he has a problem with people skills if that's what you mean. "No I can't believe it! You're really back!"
Blaine kissed Kurt and Kurt kissed Blaine. That was all he needed now. Blaine, always and forever.
