Chapter 12.
"Blaine, You need to head back to your bed now." The nurse said.
Rachel had gone home, I could tell she'd been crying. I tilted my head at Blaine, he kissed the top of my head.
"I'm only here." He pointed to the second bed in the ward. I smiled a bit, knowing he was close reassured me about staying in this place.
"Lights are going out now." She said, flicking the switch. The whole place went into darkness.
Moments later I heard the high pitched scraping of metal against metal. I frowned, almost jumping up. Cursing when the pain shot through my stomach.
"It's just me," Blaine whispered, I felt the covers moving.
"I've done this every night.'' I felt his hands against my back.
"Done what?" I whispered.
"Pushed the beds together. So I could be close to you." I felt my heart thump against my chest.
"Even when I was-"
"Your heart beated faster when I was around," I felt him shrug. "Or so I liked to tell myself."
I turned a bit, he helped me with his hands so I could face him. He stroked the side of my cheek with his thumb, kissing my cheek gently. I leaned forward towards his lips, but the plastic got in the way, so I reduced to closing my eyes into a sigh. He chuckled and repeatedly kissed my head.
"This sucks," I frowned.
"It's only for a little while. You'd be incredible pain trying to breathe with those broken ribs." He reminded me.
I nodded, but looked at him. His eyes were still sad. "Blaine?" I mumbled, turning my head down a little before looking up at him once more. "What did the doctor say to you?" I saw his face break slightly, the same way it had done in the other room.
"It doesn't matter." He swallowed, stroking my face.
"No, I-I want to know everything he said." I demanded lightly. He pursed his lips.
"He said you were doing really well physically. Showing signs of improvement." He smiled, "Good right?" I carried on looking at him, my eyes trying to read his.
"But..?" I whispered. He looked away from me when I said that, I swallowed. "Blaine, I need to know. What are you hiding? You said no more secrets." He closed his eyes and scrunched them tight.
I took hold of his hands and bought them over to me softly. "I'm asking you to tell me." I whispered, he looked back at me with a raspy breath.
"You might forget." He whispered, his voice sounded pained.
"Forget?"
"You don't remember the accident or anything that caused it, the doctor said you've had a severe head injury that will cause some loss of memory. That you'll start forgetting things.. us." He looked away, "Me." his voice wasn't steady.
I frowned, "No." I shook my head. "There's no way I'm forgetting stuff." I laughed, "Blaine, I've got the best memory ever." He couldn't look at me.
"I'm not going to forget you." I tried to smile "I promise."
"Don't, Kurt. Please don't." He turned back to me.
"I am here now and forever." He smiled lightly. "Even if I have to make you fall for me all over again." I smirked, bemused.
"Well, I think it'll be an easy target." My smile vanished, it was slowly starting to kick in. What if I did forget him? Forget everything. What did happen in that accident..? In fact, what happened before that? Why were we with Sebastian?
"You're thinking. What are you thinking about?" He lay his head next to mine.
"You." I whispered back.
"Me?"
"Just you." I nodded, looking at him. I blinked, tired.
He leaned in and kissed my cheek, "I love you." He said,
"I love you too." I replied, smiling at the warmth of his touch. "So much." he continued, putting his arms around me, pulling me into his body. The greater warmth spreading through my limbs calmed me, I buried my head under his chin, closing my eyes with the comfort.
"Remember me in the morning." Blaine said, his chin resting on my head. "I'll never forget you." I mumbled, my fingers grazing over the skin of his stomach, "Never, ever."
We lay there in complete silence, neither one of us wanting to wake the other one up. None of us wanting to disturb the silence, the silence was beautiful. Peaceful. I closed my eyes and fell asleep to the sound of his close breathing.
