Blaine kissed Kurt’s ear and said, “I’ve got to get ready for work.”
“Alright. I’m going to go pick some of these things up. I’ll see you when you get home.”
Blaine got changed and went to work. He really hoped he wouldn’t have to clock in at the restaurant too many more times. Even if he didn’t hear anything from Vogue he was determined to get a job as a lawyer. He had his resume ready to send out to several more companies in the next day or two. For the first time in months he felt motivated and excited thinking about the future.
That night, he quietly turned the door knob and entered the dark apartment. It was only a little after 10:30 p.m. and he hoped that meant Kurt would still be awake. He set down his keys and walked towards the bedroom. He could see a sliver of light from the doorway and hear Kurt singing along to his Wicked soundtrack.
“Hey, handsome, I’m home,” Blaine called out so he wouldn’t startle Kurt.
Soft yellow light poured out of the room as Kurt opened the door wide to greet Blaine.
“Hurry up and get in here!” Kurt said excitedly while bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. He grabbed Blaine’s arm and pulled him into the bedroom.
Blaine looked around the room in awe, his mouth dangling open. What had been a sparse, white room when he left had been transformed into a rich, romantic retreat. They weren’t allowed to paint the walls so Kurt had taken cream and brown toile fabric and tacked it to the entire wall that their headboard was up against. The bed had new linens that coordinated perfectly with the wall fabric. There was a chocolate brown window treatment over the small window. A new nightstand sat on Kurt’s side of the bed with an elegant lamp on top.
“Someone has been busy. Kurt, it looks amazing!”
“I’m not done, yet. I need to add a few finishing touches and we still need some art for the walls.” Kurt said, clearly pleased with himself.
“I can guess what we’re doing next weekend,” Blaine said with a knowing wink.
“It’ll be fun, I promise!” Kurt said. Blaine knew better, though. He’d be dragged around from store to store until his feet hurt and his brain couldn’t function anymore. Blaine would do it because it was important to Kurt and he really loved to him in his element.
“I’m going to get ready for bed,” Blaine said. He placed a kiss on Kurt’s cheek and left the room.
Kurt was already snuggled under the covers when Blaine came back in the room. He climbed in the bed and pressed himself against Kurt’s back. They fit together so perfectly in every way. Kurt rolled onto his back and Blaine draped himself along his side. He placed his head on Kurt’s chest, feeling his heart beat under the smooth alabaster skin.
“I’m going to send out my resume to a few places this week,” Blaine said as he gently rubbed Kurt’s side.
“Really? That’s good. I’m personally pulling for you to get the Vogue job, though,” Kurt said.
“Yeah, I just…I just want to be pro-active, you know? I feel like I have been stuck for a long time and I need to move forward. Being with you makes me feel like I don’t have to be stuck anymore,” Blaine explained.
“I love you so much, Blaine. Be yourself and great things will happen, I can feel it.” Kurt kissed his hair.
“Thanks for believing in me, Kurt. I love you, too,” Blaine said stifling a yawn. It had been a long, busy weekend. They had accomplished a lot and it certainly showed, but he felt like he could sleep for days.
The gentle rise and fall of Kurt’s chest lulled Blaine into a deep, dreamless sleep.

The description of the limitations of their ability to decorate and then how Kurt got around those limitations makes me think of the Nate Berkus show. Do you watch that show? He's always helping people with their "design dilemmas."I loved this story! It was a great display of a loving couple doing everyday things.
Thank you! I actually only watch Glee, so I am not familiar with the Nate Berkus show. I think I've heard of him, though. Pretty sure I saw him on Oprah years ago.
