Kurt was so tired he almost put yesterday’s outfit on but even he could never be tired enough to wear the same outfit more than once. Once fully dressed, Kurt stumbled up the stairs from his basement bedroom, thankfully now that Carole and Finn had been officially moved in for so long an extension had been built so that Finn no longer had to share with Kurt. The two boys were close as any brothers could be but they were very different and had a hard time sharing a room.
When Kurt opened the door at the top of the stairs he saw Carole jump in surprise when she saw him. “Kurt honey I thought you had already left” she called from the kitchenette “Finn has left in his car already, you better get a move on or you will be late” she said
encouragingly, passing him a slice of toast as he greeted her quickly before heading out of the door in a hurry.
Kurt was distracted the whole drive, he did not function well on less than eight hours sleep and he certainly didn’t have that last night and now his whole body was suffering. He couldn’t concentrate on the road, his usually perfectly coiffed hair was messier than it should be and his skin care routine had been cut short after it had taken him so long to put an outfit together.
Kurt had to slam the breaks on as a motorbike cut in front of him as he pulled off the main road into the school parking lot. “Shit!” Kurt shouted in shock as the bikes rider made no indication of recognition he had almost been hit by the navigator. Kurt let out a wail of profanities as he pulled into a space in the parking lot, a frown pulling his eyebrows together. Kurt was still irritable as he gathered his books from the passenger seat into his bag and hurriedly crossed the lot towards the school.
As Kurt walked he spotted the bike that had cut across him his scowl depended. The bikes rider was male, a few inches shorter than Kurt, with slicked parted hair, wearing a distressed black leather jacket and khaki slacks that didn’t quite reach his ankles above a pair of black leather boots. This was an odd outfit combination Kurt noted, it was as if the boy didn’t know whether he wanted to dress like a 70’s biker or a new age metro-sexual nerdy type. But apparently he could pull off this odd look because Kurt couldn’t take his eyes from the stranger.
Kurt almost walked head long into another car as his eyes had become so intent on the stranger that he wasn’t watching where he was going. Kurt blushed even though no one had noticed and he carried on walking, finally reaching the steps without glancing back at the strange boy.
Kurt Hummel soon forgot about the boy he had seen until his third period English Literature class where he took his seat behind Mercedes Jones and Sam Evans. The two sat closer than was necessary Kurt noticed and as the students filed into the room he let his mind wander to the talk he had had with the other Glee Club girls over the blossoming relationship between Cadies and Sam over the summer, which it was rumoured the pair had spent a lot of by the lake.
Mrs Ellis soon arrived and the class settled after roll call she introduced them to their newest topic; they would be studying William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This was met by a groan from the majority of the class, in particular the boys, however some of the girls whispered excitedly at the prospect of studying such a romantic play. Mrs Ellis handed out the text and a booklet of notes on the play and began to read from the script in a narrative form.
Thirty minutes into the class a loud bang echoed around the classroom and out in the corridor as the classroom door swung open and hit the wall. The whole class looked up from their books in shock. Mrs Ellis’ eyes were wide with shock at the sight of the young man sauntering through the door. The stranger had returned. “Who might you be?” the stern woman asked, her voice impeccably calm but the class could see the anger in her eyes boring into the new boys face.
“Anderson, Blaine Anderson” the new boy said simply, keeping eye contact with the taller woman, “who are you” he returned the question with an attitude of arrogance and disrespect. It was like a battle of wills happening silently at the front of the room, the whole class could feel the tension rising. Mrs Ellis was one of those teachers you wouldn’t want to cross, you could see this just from looking at her but this Blaine didn’t seem to notice, or he just didn’t care. Every student in the class held their breath. “You may call me Mrs Ellis” The stern woman replied, braking the eye contact first and scanned the room, as if she were x-raying each student, and finally her eyes fell on the only empty seat in the room, the one beside Kurt. Something inside of Kurt had known this was coming the moment the boy entered the room and his heart sank. This was going to be one more bully to add to the list with Karofsky and Azimio.
“Anderson. Over there beside Mr. Hummel.” Mrs. Ellis said calmly pointing to the desk beside Kurt, pulling the piece of paper from Blaine’s hand that must have been his sign off sheet from the office. Blaine gave a cut nod “cool it Ellis” he replied without even looking at her before sauntering off towards Kurt and the empty space beside him. As Blaine walked away the whole class just stared at him and saw the flush of rage rise then fall in the teachers face. Clearly she decided Blaine wasn’t worth the effort and Kurt secretly agreed, Blaine looked like a trouble maker. The way Blaine walked exerted an air of cocky arrogance that made everyone forget the fact he appeared to be shorter than most of the male juniors in the school and Kurt suspected this was probably part of the reason for this.
Blaine pulled up the seat beside Kurt and swung himself down, propping his booted feet up onto the desk. Kurt scowled and returned his gaze to the play, trying to ignore a small metal clicking noise that seemed to be coming from Blaine's mouth. Kurt was however, unable to concentrate on reading as Blaine's masculine scent giving off a mixture of musky spices and a hint of something sweet, but not sickly, beneath the smell of cigarette smoke. “Will you stop that, whatever you’re doing” Kurt hissed across at Blaine as the metallic clanging continued throughout the lesson. “Anything for you babe” Blaine had leaned over and whispered right into Kurt's ear, he could feel the other boys breath almost damp in the shell of his ear. Kurt shivered involuntarily making him scowl as Blaine leaned back to his original position with his head in his hands, a smirk on his face.
The rest of the lesson passed with neither of the boys speaking another word to each other until ten minutes from the end when they were asked to discuss the use of language between the two families with the person beside them. Kurt sighed audibly.
“So Anderson, tell me did you even listen to the reading or did you merely sleep?”
Kurt asked in an exasperated tone. Blaine actually opened his eyes at the sound of his name in Kurt's musical countertenor voice.
“I can tell you a thing or two about language, you’d be surprised Hummel, people certainly use different language in my experience”
Blaine winked and Kurt presumed he was trying to use sexual connotations, though very badly and Kurt sighed at the new boys pathetic attempt to get him to blush.
“Maybe I can teach you a thing or two”
Blaine continued smirking away once more. Kurt grimaced in disgust;
“You really aren’t my type Anderson”
he scoffed, half shouting, with his face twisted into his best bitch glare.
“Oh Hummel I'm sure you’ll come around”
Blaine replied, the look on Kurt's face not effecting him one little bit,
“I saw you staring at me in the parking lot this morning you know.”
A look of surprise and something that should have been shame crossed Kurt's face for a moment before recovering
“because YOU almost crashed into me turning into the lot on that stupid motorcycle of yours”
Kurt sneered, not letting Blaine believe for a second he would ever admit to having been checking him out.
“Well since we are onto that topic I think you need to apologise for almost taking out my back wheel Hummel.”
A look of rage crossed Kurt face
“if YOU hadn’t of cut in front of me that would never had happened ANDERSON”
Kurt hissed, grabbing his bag and stalking out of the classroom the second the bell rang right on cue.
At lunch Kurt stared into his salad and played with his fork, not eating. Tina and Rachel watched Kurt confused whilst Mercedes and Sam shared a knowing look, it had to be the new kid Blaine. “You got it bad don’t you white boy?” Mercedes said with a grin, pulling Kurt from his thoughts. “What are you talking about Cadies?” Kurt snapped, drawing the attention of Tina and Rachel and the other New Directions sitting around them. “I'm talking about you and that new kid Blaine Anderson” she replied calmly, ignoring Kurt's tone and raised voice. “I hear he got expelled from his old school for hitting a teacher” Tina piped up, and Artie cut in “I heard he set a chemistry lab on fire.” Kurt merely shrugged “he’s a trouble maker and Mrs Ellis forced him to sit next to me in English” he went back to picking at his food, not meeting any of the pairs of eyes still staring at him.
Kurt spent the rest of the day much in the same way as he had lunch; snapping at anyone who talked to him with curt answers and ignoring and further questions on the topic of Blaine Anderson. Thankfully the rest of the day passed without further incident until sixth period chemistry with his least favourite teacher Mr Wilson. Wilson had already shouted at two students before the buzzer signalled the start of class and Kurt's heart dropped lower than before, if that was even possible, when Blaine’s name was second on the list. Wilson looked up as no reply came when he called Blaine's name, he muttered something that sounded like “waste of space” when Blaine himself crashed through the door, late once more. Blaine didn’t even acknowledge the teacher staring at him with wide eyes and Blaine merely dropped his forms on the desk winking at Kurt and taking a seat in the empty row at the back of the room.
However Wilson was having none of this “Anderson! If you think you and saunter into my classroom late and taking up any seat you fancy you have another think coming” Wilson shouted and Blaine merely smirked “That is exactly what I am doing though” Blaine replied, his voice completely nonchalant, swinging his legs up onto the bench he was sitting at, leaning back into his chair. A wave of fury crossed Wilsons face “I will not have you talking back in my classroom. You will not disrespect me, and you will take your feet from that bench immediately” he shouted at Blaine who made no effort to move, his face completely blank and emotionless. “I will not”. Kurt eventually was unable to keep his eyes at the front of the classroom now and spun around and just stared at Blaine who winked at him. Winked? How dare he? But Wilson had had enough now “Anderson, Principal’s office, now!” he shouted and Kurt felt himself physically relax as Blaine exited the room. The rest of the lesson no body spoke and the atmosphere was tense. Nobody ever spoke to Wilson like that. Blaine had gotten a lucky escape with Ellis that morning but Kurt wondered if Wilson sending him to Figgins would make a difference. He supposed not. Throughout the day Kurt had heard numerous rumours over why he had been expelled from his last school, some even more outrageous than those Tina and Artie had shared at lunch time.
When classes for the day were over Kurt trudged back to his car; physically and mentally exhausted. Blaine had sent Kurt's mind on a whirlwind, he had never experienced a student behave the way Blaine had; falling asleep in class, making inappropriate comments to him and disrespecting the teachers in the way Blaine had, and some of the stories Kurt had heard from the new boys first day were a lot worse than what Kurt had seen. Kurt's mind was on these stories as he walked out of school. Blaine had apparently lit up a cigarette in Robinson’s maths class setting a text book on fire and then either tried to hit on or embarrass Miss Harris during IT, but which it was Kurt was unsure.
As Kurt's mind wandered he almost didn’t notice the figure leaning against the backseat door of his Navigator. The figure gave out a light chuckle as Kurt reached out for the handle of the driver’s door. Kurt looked up stunned, “what are you doing Anderson” Kurt snapped, not in the mood for his arrogance or attitude. “I just wanted to see you babe” Blaine replied innocently, Kurt noticed his use of the nickname once more. “Well you can ‘just see’ me in English class tomorrow but for now I will be getting home thank you” Kurt said taking the door handle once more pulling it open.
Kurt was, however, surprised when the door did in fact open because he could still feel his car keys in his jeans pocket and he slowly pulled them out. Blaine smirked again “problem?” Kurt growled “what did you do to my car?” he shouted at Blaine “oh just a little lock picking, hope you don’t mind” Kurt just glared, “you can’t just go around doing that” he screamed at Blaine, flinging his satchel into the passenger seat of the car and hopping in, only just catching Blaine's words before he slammed the door “maybe a good fuck will lighten you up Hummel” Blaine laughed, Kurt could still see the laughter in the other boys face before he drove away, hands shaking in rage at what Blaine had done.
Kurt slammed the door of his Navigator harder than he should and stormed up to the house, remembering in the back of his mind to double click the lock (he was concerned for his cars safety after Blaine's little trick) and burst through the door, not saying a word to Burt or Finn who were both sitting in the lounge, and slammed his bedroom door behind him, collapsing down onto his bed in a fit of rage.
