“Trust me on this one Blaine, there is not a single thing unattractive about. In fact, had Sami not - “
Blaine’s attention was drawn away from Jen when he heard the door swing open loudly, an individual muttering something in a nearly breathless tone as he realized that it was Kurt’s voice drifting in from the entrance of the cafe. He noticed Jen tilt her head at the man’s constant apologies, a peculiar expression subsiding across her features that he couldn’t quite made sense of. No matter how important those unsaid words, it seemed as though it would have been a relief to get off her chest, and now that it wasn’t being said he could see her quickly withdraw the thought back into her mind for perhaps another time, or maybe to never be spoken. Blaine felt as though he should ask about it, or at least remember to bring it up for another time when he finally turned in his seat to see Kurt disappear into the back room still apologizing insistently and explaining his reasons for being late. His arm raised to rest around the back of the chair as he watched the actor poke his head out from the back room wearing an apron with a polo in hand. He looked almost relieved, as though he hadn’t noticed Jen and him sitting there, seemingly satisfied with the mere thought of not disappoint his coworker for being tardy, or maybe even for knowing his little outburst was least heard with strangers ears who had no idea of what he was speaking of rather than Jen, let alone Blaine. The musician could feel a gentle hand slip away from it’s placement on top of his own, but his eyes never once fluctuated from the man as he made his way towards the counter, looking…well he couldn’t exactly comprehend his expression. Maybe apprehensive? Or perhaps a minuscule amount of regret hidden past all the stubbornness? He definitely seemed exhausted, that much was thoroughly noticeable. In fact, is that my Buckeyes shirt he’s wearing? Blaine could feel his lips twitch the tiniest bit at the sudden realization that he was wearing it, most likely in his room and had maybe even fallen asleep in it at one point or another since leaving the musician’s room the morning after their failed date. As the actor finally noticed the musician and his coworker, the taller man’s expression turning slightly embarrassed with a hesitant smile, he could feel his own smile brighten considerably, his eyes gleaming a little at the familiarly natural ease of that perfect moment that couldn’t be described any better then just being so very them. But as Kurt suddenly frowned and turned quickly to find something to busy himself with, he could feel his own smile falter, his eyes lowering before he turned his head to glance at Jen briefly. Blaine noticed the same look on his friend’s face as he did before when she had been interrupted by Kurt’s sudden appearance, though her expression had an incomprehensible undertone to it, as though she understood something about Blaine that he didn’t. Either way it didn’t last long as she gave him a small encouraging smile and mouthed go talk to him. Blaine nodded once, his hand reaching out to pat the top of Jen’s lightly before he ran his fingers carefully through his gelled hair and proceeded to stand up from his seat.
The musician turned on his heel once he was on his feet and headed towards Kurt, stopping in front of the coffee bar but gave himself some space so he wasn’t being too forward or seeming too obvious. So he stood there, his eyes poised on the actor with his lips slightly parted as he thought of something to say, anything to get the man back on his side because he needed Kurt, whether he knew it consciously or not. This theater major had a very strong pull on him, like a powerful force that he had to recipricate in some way. But how was he even to go about doing that? How was he to earn this man’s trust back given the assumption he’d lost it? He couldn’t even begin to describe how far he had let Kurt in, how much he had shared, and just how weak he really was. Clearly he had seen something, or felt something, deep for this individual enough to show him the damaged, hurt, and completely lost person he was rather than the strong, elegant, and indifferent man he hid his real self behind. And Blaine could think of two reasons for why he thought he had easily sacrificed his seemingly unbreakable barrier for the actor; first off, the man was just so genuine, so caring, and so understanding that it seemed simple and like he had lifted years of troubles and pain from his shoulders just by opening up and allowing himself to finally let those unsaid things be shared with someone who he knew wouldn’t judge nor pity him. The second reason, and by far the most ambiguous of the two, was that Blaine was fairly certain that Kurt was in the same boat as him, that the actor himself had gone through just as many (if not more) troubles in his lifetime to barely be able to relate to anybody…well anybody but Blaine.
“I’m sorry.” The musician looked at Kurt, those two words resonating his thoughts until he realized how sudden they had come out, and ultimately felt his cheeks warm the slightest bit as he slipped his hands into his pockets, lowered his eyes, and let his lips pull into the smallest hint of an embarrassed smile. To be thoroughly honest with himself he had no idea of what to say to the actor, or where to even begin, but he also figured that just standing there in front of the coffee bar wouldn’t exactly give the best impression either. His shoulders shrugged s he took a step back and turned around, giving himself a second to recuperate. For a moment Blaine had the idea to just walk away, to leave the coffee shop and simply give-up because he knew how his relationships turned out, whether with a friend or significant other it didn’t matter. The most complicated part was that - for him at least - Kurt was right in the middle of the two, for he had shared a great deal of his past with someone who he’d consider his best friend, but he also couldn’t help but to have romantic feelings towards him. The only problem was that the theater major had made it fairly clear time and time again that what they had was a strong friendship, and Blaine was okay with that but didn’t feel fully satisfied by it. There was one other thing though…he thought it was a complete and utter lie, for he remembered the other night, and the following morning, and both events surpassed simply being close friends. So perhaps Kurt was just in a state of denial, or he really had just had some awful past experiences, enough to seriously shed a bad light on romantic relationships in general. But whatever the actor had gone through Blaine knew he’d be there for him, no matter what, and that he’d care for him as much as he knew he deserved. Now all he had to do was make certain that Kurt understood this…but first he had to apologize, properly at least.
Blaine turned back towards the counter, taking a step in the actor’s general direction as he bucked up the courage to speak. “Kurt…I understand if you’re still unhappy about the other day, but I…I just wanted to apologize, because I should have been more understanding and patient with you. It was unfair of me to takeout my own frustrations on you when you clearly were having a bad day. It’s just that…” he trailed off, his eyes lowering from the man, shrugging his shoulders a little. He had told himself before that he’d be honest with the theater major, no matter how he thought it’d make him look and therefore forget about whatever worries he had. “I know it isn’t an adequate reason for being argumentative, because I should have just kept it to myself rather then let it get to me, but I had a disagreement - since that’s really the most pleasant way I can put it - with my mother over the phone. Apparently my entire childhood is void and should be forgotten so I can visit my father in the hospital.” Blaine barely shook his head, his eyes still poised on the wood floor beneath his Ralph Lauren’s before he finally glanced at Kurt, “…But like I said, it shouldn’t have affected the way I treated you like it did. I am honestly so very sorry for arguing with you when I should have support you instead.” The music major watched the other’s facial expression, feeling as though he still wasn’t getting much of a response, and therefore figured that his friend wasn’t going to forgive him just yet, or perhaps he was still being his very stubborn self. Well, I have one more idea…. “I hope that you can forgive me, but if not then I understand, just…give me one more chance to show you how sorry I am.”
Blaine smiled softly at Kurt, hopefully perhaps, and turned to slowly head back to the table where Jen was still sitting, watching him curiously as he approached her. The musician let his hand rest against the table top as he leaned towards his friend to speak in a hushed tone, “Could you possibly do me a rather large favor?” He noticed the raised brow as the woman looked back at him, Blaine smiling a little in response. “Would you mind playing the piano part to Michael Bubl’s Haven’t Met You Yet?” The way Jen rolled her eyes and grinned simultaneously as a reaction to his question nearly made him chuckle, and eventually he let his lips pull into a small smile as he watched his friend push herself up from the chair to head over towards the piano, murmuring something about being a “cheesy romantic” between fits of soft laughter. The music major leaned away from the table, his hands slipping into his jean pockets as he let his eyes gaze over the individual approaching the piano and taking a seat in front of it, pulling the cover off delicately and began the intro to one of his favorite songs by an artist he easily admired.
Blaine ran his fingers through his hair with his back still towards the actor and started to sing, “I’m not surprised, not everything lasts, I’ve broken my heart so many times I stopped keeping track. Talk myself in, I talk myself out, I get all worked up then I let myself down. I tried so very hard not to lose it, I came up with a million excuses. I thought of every possibility.” The musician turned back to look at the actor, his lips pulling into a very natural expression as he sang from across the cafe, “I might have to wait, I’ll never give up. I guess it’s half timing and the other half’s luck. Wherever you are, whenever it’s right, you come out of nowhere and into my life.” Shuffling feet forced him forward onto his toes, his eyes staying easily on the man he cared so much for as he made his way across the cafe, “I know that we can be so amazing, and baby your love is gonna change me. Now I can see every single possibility.” Approaching the counter the musician placed his hands on the counter top, leaning over it a little as he held Kurt’s gaze, “Somehow I know that it’ll all turn out, you’ll make me work so we can work to work it out. I promise you kid to give so much more than I get, I just haven’t met you yet.” Blaine moved along the bar, finding the latch to the small half-door and opening it, reaching to take the theater major’s hand in his own a moment later. He smiled as he led him away from behind the coffee bar, his voice lively as he continued on, “They say all’s fair in love and war, but I won’t need to fight it, we’ll get it right and we’ll be united”. He could hear the music slow down until it ceased to exist, the riff still ringing inaudibly throughout the cafe as he mentally grinned for the rather appropriate romantic silence from Jen’s piano playing. Blaine twirled Kurt around on his feet so he was pulled close, a mere inch or two separating him from the actor as his lips pulled into a soft smile and he looked straight into his favorite pair of breathtaking blue-green eyes. His voice lowered so only the man in front of him could hear the affectionate tone, “And someday I know it’ll all turn out…and I’ll work to work it out. I promise you kid I’ll give more than I get…I just haven’t met you yet.” The musician leaned forward, his eyes closing as he rested his forehead delicately against the actor’s, his fingers lacing with the other’s as a very natural smile appeared on his lips while he hummed softly.
