Shrugging himself out of his thoughts he smiled back at the musician and tilted his head in question. “So do you often come and watch the drama department shows, or are you talking about productions outside of Tisch?” Kurt raised one eyebrow just slightly above the other in curiosity before dropping it and casually examining his nails. Sitting down at the piano stool as Blaine sauntered off Kurt let his fingers fall weightlessly onto the keys, his smile faltering just a little before he spun around on the stool to face Blaine. “Oh so you play guitar too? Just how many instruments can you play?” Kurt glanced back at the piano, shutting the key cover fondly before leaning lightly against it. “So is there going to be an appropriate time for piano, or are you just avoiding the inevitable ‘I told you’ so coming your way?” Kurt added a small smirk to his statement before relaxing and leaning forward, giving a small nod. “John Mayer, right? I may know it if I’m refreshed a little on the lyrics and how it goes.” Kurt pulled an innocently slightly confused face, despite knowing the song perfectly well, he was incredibly curious as to Blaine’s voice and his playing which overpowered his desire just to go along with it and sing straight off.
Blaine watched as Kurt leaned his chin against his hand and took a longer time to process what he was saying then normal, though it seemed to be happening more regularly with this particular individual. He felt…different, he couldn’t exactly explain or even attempt to try to figure out what it was that was overtaking him, but it was just different, their really was no other word that he could put for it. Maybe he couldn’t think of a word for it because he simply didn’t know what was going on, he hadn’t felt the same way around anybody else, not even remotely close. At first he wasn’t sure if he liked how hypnotizing Kurt’s smile was, or how easy it was to get lost in his gaze. Their were also those moments when he’d completely lose track of his thoughts and his mind would go blank…and it took all of his energy and willpower to pull him back to the surface to realize that he had just been staring at Kurt, or listening so intently to what he was saying that it wouldn’t process entirely. All he knew was that their was something spectacular about the drama major sitting in front of him to have such an affect on him. “Yeah…coffee likes being loved,” he managed to get out eventually, feeling as though his brain cell count was plummeting at an alarming rate. He really needed to snap out of it, he was embarrassing himself and he did not want Kurt to have a memory of him as seemingly slow and weird because he kept forgetting how to speak like a normal human being.
Blaine grabbed his coffee cup and brought it close to him, he knew it was empty and their was no more of what he’d call “bravery juice” left in it, but just holding the styrofoam cup in his hand made him feel…a little more composed, and a little more in control of his thoughts and actions like they did when he was in high school. “I just stick to the productions from the drama department, I’m not all that big of a theater guy. But I don’t mind going to a play or musical when I feel like I know the people who are actually participating it. Plus, I enjoy supporting the drama department at Tisch, we’re all in the same boat anyways.” He smiled the slightest bit, feeling his confidence and composure come back to him bit by bit. Whatever little inkling of self-doubt and questioning that had been residing before had now left that he had a guitar in his hands and he was on stage. Blaine couldn’t help but smile more widely, “I only play the guitar and piano. To be quite honest I think I prefer the guitar actually, but I write a lot more pieces for the piano”. He glanced down at his fingers that were methodically moving their way across the chords in a quiet matter so that the sound was barely heard. When he tilted his head to look at Kurt he nearly grinned, feeling himself go back to normal, “Their will be an appropriate time for playing the piano, I assure you. And I’m still telling you that ‘I told you so’ isn’t coming anytime soon.” He turned back to his guitar as he moved his fingers onto another set of scales, this time a little louder. Without lifting his head this time he merely nodded, “Yeah, John Mayer. I can start it off for you…” as soon as he finished his statement he faded the scales into the intro for the song, letting his long fingers travel up and down the neck of the guitar as the tune became clear. Blaine licked his lips instinctively and closed his eyes for a second as he simply felt the chords beneath his fingers, “It’s not a silly little moment…” he started off softly, keeping his voice his own rather then the original John Mayer’s, reopening his eyes, “it’s not the storm before the calm. This is the deep and dying breath of this love that we’ve been working on.”
