Kurt kept his eyes locked onto Blaine’s features, trying to take in his expression, his body language, everything about him in order to piece together what was wrong. As much as Kurt was selfish sometimes and liked to just think about what would benefit him, he couldn’t help but feel like he had to help anyone who so much as looked a fraction like something was wrong - that was just pure human nature and whoever said otherwise was simply hideously wrong. He should’ve noticed earlier, the tenseness in Blaine’s stance, the slight droop of his shoulders and the lack of his gleaming smile and glittering eyes. Kurt felt like he’d just kicked a puppy who was already down and it was completely breaking his heart. “Are you sure? I mean, I’m always here if you need someone to talk to…” It was terrible how much he just wanted to give Blaine a hug right now, some overwhelming sense which he was refusing to listen to. He was refusing to close the gap between them no matter what mostly out of fear. “I’m fine, it’s not that cold…” How ironic that his breathing was visible right now as he shrugged and settled for folding his arms to maintain some form of body heat through the thin cheerleading outfit. Oh god, he was standing in the middle of a New York street wearing it… This was embarrassing. Kurt pursed his lips together a little in thought before stepping forward. “Come on… I’ll make sure you get back to the dorms in one piece, since I’m not entirely convinced those beers aren’t affecting you all that much.” Kurt slowly reached out, lightly placing a hand on Blaine’s shoulder and giving it a small squeeze with a small smile on his lips. “I’m sorry if it’s anything that I’ve done, really sorry and I’ll make it up to you. Promise.” He couldn’t help but promise that, just one look at Blaine and he’d do anything to make him smile again just for a little while, tell him everything would work out eventually. Then again sometimes he was an optimist and annoyingly so at that.
Blaine shook his head, somehow mustering to force a smile on his lips even if he really was just utterly confused. “Yes, I’m sure. Thank you but I’ll be fine.” He raised his eyebrow at Kurt’s response, especially when his breath suddenly became visible. But he knew that the man was stubborn, and unfortunately their wasn’t much he could do about it anyways. He actually had the sudden urge to put an arm around his shoulders, or maybe even wrap his arms around him in order to keep him warm, but he had a feeling that would have been a little far, even for him. Blaine watched as Kurt stepped closer to him, and for some reason he felt it harder to concentrate, especially with his gentle touch and impeccable smile. But he didn’t move, nor did he budge an inch because he still felt confused, and he needed to get something off his chest in order to feel more comfortable. “Kurt, wait…” he said hesitantly, not sure how else to say this, “What are you doing here? I mean…don’t get me wrong, I appreciate it despite the utter state of confusion I’m in. But you literally just spent I don’t even know how long explaining why you’ve been staying away…and all of a sudden you’ve gone out of your way to be here. Maybe I’m just overreacting, and if I am you can tell me…but I just feel like there is something else going on.” Blaine kept his gaze softly on the actor, attempting to hide the confusion and the even deeper sense of slight anxiety, though he knew for a fact he was failing…miserably.
